haha settle down. this happens to every band at every festival. i'll bet 1000 bux rustain's tech did the exact same thing not an hour earlier. as did every tech for every band on the bill.

@@cbr9914 you're definitely not wrong. I guess the issue here is the stages seemed to be right next to each other. Usually with multiple stages they're fairly far apart so it's not as much of an intrusion, idk

Actually how this works is that the next bands starts right after the last band finished. So big chance Dave's crew did the same to the band before.

Not possible they’re checking the volume of the speaker or making sure sound is coming out of the speakers. If you using headphones your just checking the feed coming out of the board. That has nothing to do with the stage speakers.

@@johncruz9357 Checking the sound out of the board is fine, just as long as there isn't another band playing live through the same PA at the time. You can tune guitars with headphones. There is obviously a better solution than sound checking while another band is performing.

@@ericbrewer2409 I’m not saying what they did was ok. I’m pretty sure it was stage speaker they were not testing the house system. I doubt they were tuning since all tuners mute the output. there is no headphone system to check if signal is coming out of the speakers.

It's rude and it interfears with the fans who paid money to see the band currently on stage.

Technically ... The switch and testing happens right after or before a band starts... For example megadeth finishes their set... Their crew cleans off ... Then the following band sets their equipment with sound check on spot.... In a 5-10 minute interval.... Here in the US at least..... Now megadeth incident happened in Europe... Now from what I've been told ... The other band tends to set up either half way or towards the end of the current band so when theu finish and say their goodbyes... The other band is already soundchecking and ready to go... Again from what I been told .... Idk I dont live in Europe

I like the sound checks between performances but let the first band play their gig before checking

Not really a stigma in rock and metal as far as I've ever experienced. Quite the opposite, there's even an entire subgenre called stoner metal. I think that's just Dave being Dave post abstinence. Good for him getting clean of everything but it's easy to become preachy out of fear because he knows how easy it is for him to fall back into drinking and hard drugs. It's like when you've quit tobacco and someone lights up next to you

@@lukedavison961 I get it for sure, though I know of alot of rock/metal venues too that try to carry that old school mentality that will be losing out alot monetarily in the future.. Crazy when I go see my cousin's band he manages, they let people drink yet wont have herb smoking even in the smoking area (I'm in a recreational state and I don't drink much).. I 100% agree too that I'm sure it's to avoid the "giving a mouse a cookie" thought construct since it's known he used to grow back in the day, but I just think there are lazy and unprofessional people and there arent, and bet ima STILL be that dude outside the venue smoking down the other bands, networking, after I play my set and help get the drums and my gear off stage... I have a few friends in the Stoner Metal genre too, though it's much more an industry problem rather than the bands themselves usually.. Its funny too recording at a half mil studio and they don't let the band smoke inside, but as soon as the rapper comes in he's smokin down the whole drum room.. 🤣 Legit had this happen.

I've been to my fair share of festivals, and these kinds of things have happened during every concert whenever the two biggest stages are shoulder to shoulder like that. When there's music on one of the stages literally at all times during the day when are the crews supposed to do their sound checks? Funny....most shows I go to, sound check is performed in 5 mins or less, right before the band takes the stage.

I agree with you to a point........this is why "in-ear" monitors should always be used by both stage performers while playing the show as well as roadies who are getting their band equipment ready. Granted, in-ear monitors aren't the same as an actual "sound check", but it will get the sound close enough that the engineers in the sound booth can tweak the audio within the first song to an acceptable level.......have it at optimum expression by the end of the second song.

No, it's not normal, normally if the show is properly organized, each band will be given plenty of time to do their sound-checking "Before" the show is due to start, not while other bands are actually performing onstage, if bands have to do their sound-checking while another band is onstage performing then it indicates that the show is poorly organized from a professional standpoint, the whole point of a soundcheck is to ensure that the band can be clearly heard by the crowd/audience and the F.O.H. P.A. sound is the best it can be, this can't be properly achieved if there are two bands playing at the same time through the same P.A. because then the sound would muddy-up.
