Saw Dave compete when he was in college. He toyed with everyone. His team came to the Sunshine Open, hosted then by the University of Florida. They were enticed to come to the tournament by coach Schneider, who offered them tickets to Disney World afterwards. Schneider needed some of us to go along and I volunteered. Dave and I ended up on Space Mountain together. I was holding on tight while he was whooping it up the whole time. No fear. Same as on the mat. Later in life, met him and Mark at a clinic in Monterey and then again a few times in the Stanford wrestling room when Horpel was still the coach. Warm personality. Unassuming. Loved showing others what he knew about wrestling. The topper was going one day to my regular morning coffee shop and bumping into Nancy. We had a good time talking and sharing a few memories of Dave.

I am confused as well. Mark Schultz was featured heavily in the movie of Foxcatcher, but he wasn’t even in the documentary of team Foxcatcher. So odd.

i havent seen the movie but he documentary prob had to deal with the downfall of team foxcatcher and the death of dave. mark was at teamfoxcatcher before and left so mark hadnt been with the team since 1989ish.

The 3430 documentary Prince of Pennsylvania explores a little more of Mark Schultz and his time at Foxcatcher it’s not as good as team Foxcatcher but a good documentary nonetheless.

As GREAT as Kurt is.....Can only IMAGINE what Dave would have done!!! Kurt even said, I'd give everything i have, And Dave could yawn and give a fraction of that and still whoop my ass!!

I've got the same birthday as Dave Schultz, June 6. no coincidence that I also invent and experiment with my own moves. Granted, it doesn't usually work as well as when Dave did it, but it's the similarity that counts :) it would've been incredible to meet him...rest in peace to a legend

I like how one of the dude's said "Most people tend to only talk about the negative aspects of the Foxcatcher." Yeah, he's right, maybe because Dave Shultz literally got murdered there by the guy running and funding it lol

Damn, so any of you happen to know if Dave Shultz's wife was an amateur wrestler as well? Her level of knowledge and enthusiasm about the sport is very unusual from the wives of most impactful combat sports athletes.
@jaywilson2600
@jaywilson2600 2 года назад
She was a competitive gymnast. I believe her only ties to the sport of wrestling began when she met Dave. I believe her personality and character that you're recognizing is probably some of what attracted Dave to her. I think her knowledge and enthusiasm came from somewhere out of her love for her husband and for competition in general and I imagine one could say was given a motivational how do ya do, when she lost her husband, endured the trial, and ultimately used the money received from the civil law suit to start The Dave Schultz Wrestling Club. She started and ran the organization for 15+ years, which was started to help fund the wrestlers that were with Foxcathcher at the time. She spoke at my H.S. too many years ago to share, but came across as an intelligent, loving, and motivated human being. I think most of us found it easy to see why such an awesome wrestler/ambassador/human would have no other than Nancy as is wife and life "workout partner".

I dont know if anyone will see this that can answer my question but i also havent seen the icarus documentary due to not having netflix or money also i did watch wrestling growing up but not to where i have any knowledge i struggled with kids in school spitting in water bottles and doing all they did to cut weight but i have started watching documentaries and i am wondering is there any tie to the russians being stronger due to steroids? Were those being used during the 80s n 90s and for wrestling? My other question is can anyone give me any documentaries,shows, podcasts i can find to learn about the history?? I have watched ones on gable.iowa wrestling doc from 1999 i think. The brand brothers. As far as new people i liked the suriano fearless warrior piece.spencer lee. That kid savage throwing away a silver medal.burroughs. gable stevenson.kyle dake vs taylor but anyone reading can you tell me wrestlers to check out? Please
