It's a shame we don't get to see our 'classic' singers of soul sing live in the US anymore, however, the UK will put them on and really appreciate them.
Ever since Dusty Springfield introduced the UK to Motown in 1965 with her "Sounds of Motown" TV special.....the Brits have been giving Old School R&B a lot of love! It continues to this day with the Northern Soul movement.
Candi Staton was always Aretha Franklin's favourite singer/performer artist! That says everything I suppose. Aretha thought Candi Staton was the greatest singer ...I am going to say...She comes in joint first place with Aretha! What a voice...back in the 70s this lady sent shivers of awe down the spines of anyone who listened to her voice.
What a performance! You can see AND hear the joy while she sings her signature song. Like Gamble and Huff did for Lou Rawls with 'You'll Never Find (Another Love Like Mine),' the writer wrote a song that fit Ms. Staton to a 'T.' This was one of my mother's favorites. May she continue to Rest In Peace.
Hi @@anclark2063. I mentioned Lou Rawls because in the same way that ‘You’ll Never Find (Another Love Like Mine) became his signature song, you can make the argument that ‘Young Hearts Run Free’ became one for Candi Staton.
great to hear the 60/70's singers still singing there hits, & candis hit is such a classic, glad she survived the cancer thing, so good but lost a part of her voice after treatment.her voice so unique & special.
I remember being in a London club in the 90s and this song came on and literally every one rushed the dance floor on the first opening bar of the song ... I remember it so well because the whole crowd on the dance floor seemed to be in esctacy and it was in the middle of summer and boiling hot in the club and there was a moment when somewhere in the building a fire door must have been opened and suddenly a nice cool breeze swept across the dance floor as we all swayed to the groove of Candi Station ... happy days ... but by the way I wish RU-vid would STOP changing Stat -on to 'station; grrrr ..
Watched the original of this then when she was 78 years old....then this one...what a beautiful happy woman this is and a great career...such a shame we have to age..
