when I first got my accordion, the first thing I tried was a waltz rhythm on the left hand....enough to make me cry. Accordion, a sound that touches my heart.
I absolutely love this video. It's part of the reason why I was so desperate to buy an accordion and play. This is one of the first songs I learned, and I learned it by ear because I needed to play it exactly like you. I've been playing it for about 6 years now and it's still my favourite to come back to. I created a video tutorial for anyone who wants to learn how to play it just like this.
I saw this video first when I was 16 and had just seen Amélie, and became infatuated with the idea of learning to play. Now I’m 26 and can finally afford to buy an accordion of my own. It’s actually happening. Thanks for the many years of inspiration, Dave. I’ll still be coming back here to listen- like I always do.
Dave has been a big inspiration for me too :) i learned this tune by ear watching his video over and over and I recently made a video tutorial to help others.
For some reason, one of my favorite parts of this is the end. The quiet.. with the snaps coming undone and the emptiness of the flat. Such beautiful music being played before and eerie stillnes after. Inspiring and thought provoking. *****
I was asked to post my favorite RU-vid video for a group survey and this popped up AGAIN. It's an amazing cover... Prefer it to the original recording.
Omg I remember watching this video way way back in the day. And always loved it. Finally found it again. Such a great piece and amazing display of skills. One of my favorite videos.
I find your cover the very best of all those which are available around. You give passion, quality, excellence, speed, accuracy and personalized aim into each single tune! I love it Thomas!! Bravo, my warmest congrats to your talent!
I have had this video in my favourites for Christ knows how long...and it never fails to make me smile...it may as well be the soundtrack (not just to one of the greatest films ever made) to a drive through a series of French villages...Yann Tiersen is a God amongst men, but Dave Thomas is his disciple. An exquisite piece of music.
Well done, you are so wonderful. My comment is only written in 2024, but I have known this video for 16 years. I should have written to you sooner, sorry. You have been an inspiration to me Dave, thank you.
Dear Dave, even after 10 years, I also think that this is one of your best videos. I would really like to thank you because this video actually inspired me and made me look for and dig up my old accordions in our family storage room and since then I haven't stopped playing either the accordion or the piano. Thank you! I can also clearly understand why our world is moving towards to its destruction, when there are brainless people who say that they dislike something like this. Anyway, thanks Dave once again!
i think its great that he's doing original material, THAT i enjoy. but there is nothing original about this and this is what people are watching, not his original work. there isn't even an interpretation to speak of. THERE IS NOTHING HERE. -i think one of the most popular criticisms i've read is that he's not actually playing, that he's only pretending. and what does it matter if he is? -either way, i don't get it.
it IS the popularity of this video that offends me. the comments offend me, the performance offends me. what are YOU defending? -i wouldn't have thought anything at all, were there only a couple hundred views. what i see is someone doing a good imitation of an original work, yet the original has only half the views. this is weak; and there really isn't anything to discern whether or not this IS the original. if "originality is best", then why are you so quick to defend this?
i'm NOT making it a big deal.....,am i? i was looking for some yann tiersen, i stumbled upon this, i watched it, found it a bit sad......., wrote my opinion. -its alright though, i understand. you all love this guy, while i find him greasy and shallow and boring. it's fine. -it's like how i feel when i watch american idol.
yup. thats exactly what i said, "everyone is expected to compose an original piece of music". you're completely right, i'm 'against' people playing other peoples songs.
Beautiful playing. Reverb is delightful - cathedral sound. Go play with LIBERA. Don't stop playing, Boy. You can't lose a talent like this. Years of study, expensive instrument - Don't - Do Not let it go to waste.
Siempre me pregunté qué onda. Dave Thomas es como ese tipo que cayó del cielo y lo único que podía hacer es tocar instrumentos sin poder comunicarse de otra manera. Seguro que tienes algún trabajo propio me gustaría conocerlo.
I didnt recognize what the title read and then I heard the first few notes and I was like "Don't you dare come for my heart" 🎶We love Amélie. Keep on keepin on🌺
