This is a live jam session at NYC's Blue Note. It's very trendy and only the best play there. This recording is proof of that. Orq. La Luz delivers a very classy act. They are all well dressed and at the top of their musical game. Dave's participation makes it all a night to remember. The entire musical group is a class act for the ages. TY Nora . Great video , Angel. Thanks again.
Hello,I meet him in person many times,he used to live in the same building where my teacher Andy González used to live also.Andy González was my upright bass instructor.
Are we listening to the same video? Devoid of any melodic or developmental content. Just noise and tricks. I've heard Dave play well and this is not that.
C’mon brother you don’t have too harsh and critical to one of the most friendly and best latin jazz flute player in the world that always delivered great sound, great technique and amazing fun and entertaining solos. There is a lot of melodic content, I can't figure out why you say that. Dave was not a “show-off” flute or jazz player, he was a colorful and very entertaining player with a lot of surprises and fun, and great technique in all occasions. I was personally a witness to that on the many shows that I went to see him play in the mid 80’s and 90’s across NYC, NJ and Puerto Rico. Yes, some noises and tricks on occasions but all jazz musicians do, and that is his style, full of colors and different flute sounds, and as with all musicians the way he plays night to night and event to event will vary. @@tonyr.4778

This whole song is just on a different level… a different vibe. Incredible talent. I had to sit silently for a few minutes to process just how awesome this video is.

Impresionante.
Gosh I was there that night. They received the United Nation Award. My late husband Anthony Massanet was the controller for the Blue Note Jazz Club. What a wonderful memory.
Mr. Angel L Cordero 77: Thanks again for sharing this wonderful concert. I love The Orquesta de la Luz and the fantastic musician Dave Valentine. Cheers from New Orleans the city of jazz and the lovely "cajun" food. USA.
Cats in rare form that Blue Note night. I regret not being in attendance. I caught Dave many times. Cats can swing !
All I can say after listening to this is..OMG..OMG..OMG..That was unbelievably smoking salsa!!!!! I actually got a chance to see this band live in New York in the mid 1990's and they blew me away. There is no doubt in my mind that this Japanese salsa band truly loves and knows salsa. Thank you for posting this.
