We all remember Nolan Ryan taking care of Robin Ventura, but Nolan claims this brawl with the Padres top being ready to defend himself. At 6'6", 220 LBS, Winny is a bit more intimidating than Ventura. #MLB #baseball #astros
Nolan should have gotten him in a headlock and gone to town on him like he did when that guy from the Chicago White Sox tried playing that attacking game.
@@treyturner9566 We'll never know for sure. But even though Winfield was much taller than Nolan doesn't mean that he'd have taken him. Years ago, I remember they were pushing for a boxing match between Ali and Wilt Chamberlain. Ali looked like a midget next to Chamberlain, but he'd have taken him in a heartbeat.
well the thing about it is, unlike many people still around today, i was a youngster watching baseball as it was happening from the 70’s. Nolan did not try to hit Winfield with the pitch. He was wild. That pitch got away from him. I played a little bit of baseball in high school and the same thing applies. The pitcher cannot control the ball when trying to throw a hundred miles an hour.
Nolan was right about protecting yourself, did it very well against Robin Ventura. Dave Winfield was a bull, he went right after Nolan without hesitation.
Robin Ventura already had Pudge Rodriguez on his back before he even got to Nolan. Nolan definitely crapped his pants when Winfield came after him. Winfield also let the catcher know who was boss before he headed to the mound. This interview is funny. Nolan is acting like he was some kind of victim. He could really throw hard though.
Yeah, I guess you could say Winfield let the catcher know who’s boss, however, it depends on the catcher. If it were let’s say a big boy like Carlton Fisk or even better Lance Parrish. Winfield would have gotten buried. Parrish was a part time bodyguard and was around 6-4 or 6-5 and 235 lbs heavier and stronger than Winfield. And I noticed Ryan didn’t run or take a step back, so not really looking scared
@@dan-ws2sf So what you're saying is Nolan Ryan is such a wimp he needs bigger bodyguards to protect him after he intentionally throws a baseball at someone....got it!
@@bonzocleach2496 wow! 🤦♂️ you must be a liberal or a cop that’s used to questioning people or some other form of putting words into people’s mouths, because that not what I said at all. Go back and read it carefully, take your time , it’s ok. I’ve never called Ryan or Winfield or anybody a wimp or punk or coward or whatever. Dang! Your that guy who starts false Rumours before they even get to be passed around the school or workplace🤨
@@dan-ws2sf Bwahaha...uh...yeah...sure I'm a "liberal or a cop" for mocking your sad attempt at changing reality of an actual event by inserting a different catcher. You're a sensitive little fellow. Don't worry, Dave Winfield can't hurt Nolan Ryan or you anymore.
@@daveidmarx8296 True. That happens in the game, but, it is still not a good thing to do. Although I am a fan of his because I believe he had amazing talent, it does not blind me to his ego. He is one of the greats when it comes to the sport.
