Apparently he said to her 'work out an arrangement of 'Under Pressure' on which you play bass and sing lead'. And when she said 'I can't do that!' he said 'well, it's in the set for Tuesday, so get cracking!'
I'm checking all their Under Pressure renditions throughout the years and she fricking brings those chills every.single.time. She's a diamond even Bowie seems awestruck at times and struggling not to be totally outshone. (And she's doing all of this while nailing the bass parts!)
Gail's voice is a great compliment to David Bowie's. David needs no intro. and I love how he introduces Gail...he definitely loved singing this song with her. Rest Peacefully David. Your music will live forever
Epic. Amazing. I am literally in tears. I have always been a huge fan of Bowie, but Gayle Ann Dorsey is like a goddess. I am so blown away by this performance.
Gail Ann DORSEY .
It's been almost 10 months since David's passing and I still get emotional watching his videos, especially the ones from the concerts he gave between 2002 and 2004. He was never more charming, never more likable, never more...lovable. I just want to put my arms around him, tell him how much I miss him and love him, and how much I appreciated all that he did for me as a person and for us as a world - showing us how to be creative and fearless and confident, and how to just be who you are, yourself.
I love the original version. I love the Annie Lennox version. And, now, I love THIS version :) they are both incredibly beautiful people. miss you david.
A year after Bowie's death, I attended a tribute show in London with many, many of his former collaborators. Suffice to say that Gail Ann Dorsey simply stole the show.
The sign of a good leader is when they're happy to share, or give, the spotlight to others; and that's what David did here with Gail. She's an amazing musician in her own right, and he knew it (and this is why he worked with her).
Wow. When I saw the thumbnail for this, I assumed the green/yellow outfit was Ms Dorsey singing & not playing bass, and wanted to hear that. And obviously my confusion was well rewarded, as she sang and played the hell out it. R.I.P., the beautiful David Bowie. 'Give Love, Give Love...'
Even tho This was originally done With David &Freddie ,Gail def. takes this song to its proper level. She def.takes lead and rightfully so.There have been many who have tried to do this song but none can compare to her.I believe Freddie would have truly been proud of her covering his classic.
Gail’s playing is the most fluid bass player of our generation. Absolutely brilliant & beautiful. Props to Reeves Gabrels @ 3:03. Staten Island Strong!
