danger ross I heard someone say that they couldn't believe he was dead because they never thought he could die and weird as it sounds, I totally agree with this. Not something you can say about many people but I suppose as time marches on, we're going to "lose" a lot more beloved people since we've reached that stage where multi media and technology has brought more artists etc into our lives.

What I love about this is that he was being so enthusiastically silly with every single question-- except for when the one woman asked him to tell her about a favorite song of his, and then it was like he just couldn't help himself from slipping back into serious artist mode for a few moments to rhapsodize about how beautiful Shipbuilding is. He was right, of course. It's unbelievable how often that man was right.

David had a wonderful sense of humour which can be described as uniquely British. His comic influences can be traced back to the late 60's & early 70's of Spike Milligan & the duo Pete & Dud. Classic British humour delivered by Bowie, a master of the surreal & perfect comic timing.
@andalltheangelssay212
@andalltheangelssay212 3 года назад
I recently listened to a brilliant interview from 1997 in which David kept randomly going into his Peter Cook Pete and Dud voice whenever he was telling a story of something that had happened to him. I think the American interviewer wondered what was going on which made it all the more funny, he included some great Marc Bolan and John Lennon impressions too, along with great Yorkshire and Hull accents. One of his funniest times for one liners was in his Tin Machine days. I saw a Tin Machine interview in which the guys were messing around and to get back on track the interviewer asked in all seriousness “ have you got any concrete plans?” and David replied “ We’re gonna lay some crazy paving man” and laughed. Unfortunately no one else laughed, it went completely over their heads. I thought it was hilarious. I can’t believe how many people didn’t get his humour.

Also posted as "noveltypike"... I randomly bought the 33-year-old single of" Ship building" in Oxfam last week, then immediately picked up my "Blackstar" album from the Post Office a week after Mr Bowie's passing.. The single, with it's beautiful cover, has been sitting atop my record deck ever since, and I haven't been able to put it away. Then I come across this interview and find out it's David's favourite song of all time! My mind is blown by the synchronicity of this event. It doesn't change the world, but means the world to me.

It's an anagram of my real name, and the post was added twice under both my RU-vid avatars by accident. But unlike her, he was a personable, affable, decent human being, who would be as at home talking to a plumber as he would with a head of state. He was annoying because he seemed to have it all. I got into Bowies music in 1972 as a highly impressionable thirteen year old. Part of his mesmerising appeal was his chilly , alien , otherworldliness. I never associated him in any way with a sense of humour. Surely you wouldn't need one living on the second ring of Saturn(!) But , strike me down with a feather , he was very playful and more than willing to laugh at himself and sometimes even gently mock his less successful musical enterprises. Anyone for a bit of Tin Machine?

Yeah his humour was the kind of humour you shared with friends after you’ve been watching Monty Python or Pete and Dud. Apparently he and Brian Eno would spend days in their Pete and Dud routine. People who knew David well and worked with him said that out of an hour session they’d spend 40 -50 minutes rolling around the floor laughing. He would just be having a laugh with mates, not trying to be funny. Also I’ve seen many interviews where his English humour has gone over the heads of the interviewer and everyone else in the room, for example, when an interviewer was annoyed with his messing about in the Tin Machine days and tried to get him serious by saying “have you got any concrete plans?” David replied “we’re going to lay some crazy paving man” and laughed, unfortunately not one person laughed with him, it went right over their heads.

I have been looking sice you have said that, and there are a few people who THINK that he has had a transplant, but there are more who say it is his hair. I have known people with great heads of hair all of their lives, my dad for one. I don't see why Bowie isn't one of them with good hair genes. I am not going to argue about it, but look at the people we KNOW have had transplants, like Elton and John Travolta, and their hair looks doesn't look good. Only Iman knows or sure! lol
