I had a friend in the late 80s say that he hated David Bowie then "Suffragette City" came on the radio and he said ' now this is real rock and roll'... I said this is David Bowie... he never spoke to me again....
When I tell Bowie fans about this song, most of them have never heard of it. After they hear it, their first comment is " Wow ." Then they want to hear it again. It's too short I think. But if you've ever been in love, and it ended while you still were, listening to it only made it that much deeper. It's as fine a love song as any others written. It's unique. So was David Bowie.
I find that shocking. I bought the so-called Space Oddity LP sometime in the early 70s and this quickly became my second favorite song on the record although as a clueless American I had no idea how to pronounce "Hermione" at first. (Pre Harry Potter days lol) Don't get me wrong -- I loved every song on that album, but it seems hard to believe anyone who owned that record does not know this song.
My comment didnt state "..anyone who owned that album..." I said " Bowie fans..." It was rarely played on the radio. It still isn't. I would assume if someone owned the record or CD , they would definitely know it.
@@drvee1983 Ease up, bro -- I wasn't questioning your veracity LOL. Simply stating that I find it hard to believe anyone would call themselves a Bowie fan and NOT know this song. It's like calling yourself a Zeppelin fan and not knowing the Immigrant Song -- it's not one of their biggest sellers recorded at the height of their popularity, but it's certainly known to just about any fan.
New here, I think the "Space Oddity" album, 'Man of Words, Man of Music' is very underrated and overlooked gem, it's as important as "The Man Who Sold The World" or "Hunky Dory", I wish people would see that.
A very moving song by David Bowie. Originally on an early Bowie Album that was latter remixed & had it's name changed to "A Space Oddity" and the rest was history to come. WMMS FM Cleveland whom promoted David in the States, including his first concert was my avenue to discovery of his music & I owned the LP this song was on before the remixed name change. ( WMMS FM Cleveland @ that time was a 24 hr station with no advertising, exception to concert news, and normally played complete LP side's etc many years ago. From a 67 year old Cleveland Rocker whom still rocking which is a 🤔 wonder to anyone the knew me back in the day. RIP David your music lives on in many 💕💕💕 heart's.
She was a very pretty young woman. David was so young, and as I recall, boys just were too incapable of doing any more than go steady. Their desires were much too strong. But it was his and her first love, and it was sweet.
I love this song, I've ever loved it since I listened to it for the first time in the mid 70's...for me it has always been the most beautiful and poetic love song written in the world...I'll see you among the stars, my beloved David 💜💜
I love Bilal and Robert Glasper's version. Had to check out the original. They captured the soul of Bowie's words. You'd be proud sir. Thank you for your gift. 💓
The hand that wrote this letter Sweeps the pillow clean So rest your head and read a treasured dream I care for no one else but you I tear my soul to cease the pain I think maybe you feel the same What can we do? I'm not quite sure what we're supposed to do So I've been writing just for you ..................................................
She did. And almost certainly when she saw Bowie wearing a 'Song of Norway' T-shirt in his 'Where Are We Now' video. When she left him at the beginning of 1969, that's the name of the film she went off to shoot immediately afterwards.
John Vilardo, seriously? This song is on the original Space Oddity album. Of course all serious Bowie fans know it well. It's a famous track. 'Most of them have never heard of it' my arse! You make a complete fool of yourself by posting such a comment. Self important much?
