If anyone wishes to assure themselves of the truth of the moon landings, they should go and watch the original NASA video footage. While watching, keep in mind the commonly accepted physical characteristics of the moon, i.e. 1/6 the surface gravity of earth, no atmosphere to speak of, and a diameter of 2000 miles. Then, trust your own opinion of the veracity of that video footage. Anyone who isn't willing to even go and watch the original video footage, probably shouldn't be expressing an opinion about it, either way.
@@DavidSmith-pg1ob Exactly. It's a major pet peeve of mine when people have really strong opinions about things they know almost nothing about. These people's egos must be completely out of control to believe that their knowing just a little bit about something gives them an equal or greater platform to base a belief on as those of experts. (See nearly everyone that denies climate change as an example of this. "I haven't personally noticed a difference in the weather, so therefore all the scientists in the world must be wrong!")
Sori’s justification for doubting the moon landing “I don’t believe people”. That’s literally the reverse logic to that which you apply to Christianity. 🤔
@@Jason17300 Not trusting some people is not the same as not trusting all people. Critical thinkers would know that. She clearly didn't want to get into it. Also out of respect for the people who might have gone to the moon she didn't want to be insulting. She wanted to move on to the topic of the reaction video.
@MeTALL Why you mad? Haha. Seriously some critical thinking wouldn't hurt you either. I only responded to other people putting words in her mouth with my observations. She didn't want to talk about it. Why you so upset about that? 😂😂😂
"Stars are clearly visible in space. ... Stars are very dim and the light reflected by the Earth and the Moon is just so much brighter. To take good pictures in space you need to have a high shutter speed and a very short exposure, which means our planet and satellite are clearly visible but the stars often can't be seen."
So basically if you are actually in space you can clearly see the stars, if you are taking a picture in space stars are not captured because of the quick exposure and how much brighter the moon/earth are.
On the bright side of the moon it's daytime. Can you see the stars in the day on Earth? I've seen the moon in the day from earth at the right time of year but never seen a star they just arn't bright enough compared to the light reflected from the only star we can see in the day, Sol, the sun.
My favorite. But I think It requires some experience with the 70's Bowie, since It is a homage to this era and its ending with the 80's.But still a great pick.
Wanderson Oliveira oh, I agree. I’m just worried if they don’t do it now it will never get picked because of all of his other, bigger tracks. I love his hits, but some of the lesser-appreciated stuff is amazing. ‘How Does the Grass Grow?’ Is a top 10 track of his, for example.
Wanderson Oliveira that's why I hate people suggesting Lazurus, or Black Star, for reaction channels. Bowie's last recording were excellent, but they are too self-referential for Vin and Sori.
It depends where you are. E.g on the Moon the 'nauts ( and cameras) couldn't see the stars because the Sun is so bright hiding them away. Yet on the flights they used stars for navigation both on manned missions and on automatic landers. You can find an article here www.spaceartifactsarchive.com/2013/05/the-star-chart-of-apollo.html
Don´t let them be flat earthler.......please. I like these two people really much, they introduced me to ghost. If they really are flat earthler, I have to unsubscribe. Please, Vin and Sori, you can belive in christianiti and god and jesus. But don´t believe the other crap.
The song was covered by an actual astronaut Chris Hadfield in the international space station. Please react to that cover (filmed in space). First music video ever filmed in space. While interestingly enough, Pink Floyd’s Delicate Sound of Thunder (live album) is the first ever album played in space by the Russians on a cassette tape in it’s entirety. Space oddity was also picked by Elon Musk when he sent his Tesla to the space last year. The car had an astronaut mannequin (representing major Tom) and the song was playing from the car stereo on a loop for two days straight in the space until the battery of the car died. As you reading this, that car is floating in space right now with Major Tom in it. A great tribute to the greatest space song of all time.
I meant that Elon Musk and his team played "Life on Mars" in the Tesla that went to space! And that's true, you can go watch the launch and find out for yourself.
fuzekle NO, Space Oddity was playing in a loop in the car while “Life on Mars?” Was playing as the soundtrack in the launch. Just fucking google it. Stop fixating on something that is wrong
Bowie started in 1964 and Floyd in 1965. I am sure Bowie and Pink Floyd influenced each other but mostly Bowie was his own entity/unique and was an influencer more than he was copying anything others were doing.
There were also other psychedelic/space rock bands operating in the general timeframe. V&S need to check out some early floyd and some late bowie for more perspective.
Nuelzyr Bowie likely was inspired by early Pink Floyd, who made Piper at the Gates of Dawn two years before Space Oddity. He even covered See Emily Play, so he may have taken influence from songs like Astronomy Domine, Intersteller Overdrive, and A Saucerful Of Secrets.
When you two talk about theology and philosophy I'm stunned by the depth of your knowledge. When you two talk about science I'm stunned by the depth of your ignorance. I'm not saying you're unintelligent, I'm just saying that I wish you'd take a glass of water from that ocean of theological brilliant and put it into scientific curiosity.
@@seandan7873 Well, you still can be smart despite being cloistered away. But almost in every second video she talks such a garbage that has nothing to do with lack of information. That's pure unintelligence
@@broothan I'd say that lacking knowledge can make you appear unintelligent, especially when you make statements or assertions about the things that you are ignorant. Either way, I'm just going to politely agree to disagree. I've met plenty of stupid people and in my honest opinion, Sori isn't one of them.
@@broothan Sori is most definitely intelligent. Uninformed, a bit too skeptical in areas she doesnt understand , yeah. But as the other guy says, take o swig of knowledge. Bowie said in an interview "And the papers want to know whose shirt you wear..." has to do with British soccer (who is your team?), a big deal in Britain.
I love Bowie. The great thing about him is that you can listen to every one of his songs and get a different experience each time. He went through so many genres and re-created his persona and sound constantly on almost every album. "Low" or "Ziggy Stardust" would be a great candidates for a live-listening session.
11:44 How about NOT taking away the space money and take some military money isntead? Army in the USA got 54% of national budget every year, NASA got less than a 0.5% Literally 100 times less money. Exploration of space is not a child's play, we as humanity need it. In contrast to another war... There's a song about it. Keldian - Faster Than Light, go check it out ;)
Eric is kinda right. The space grants nowadays are going to Boeing and Space X which use NASA as an area of operations since they already have the setup.
_"Buzz Aldrin punching a moon landing denier"_ After the kind of garbage that he spewed while harassing Aldrin, I would have punched Bart Sibrel, too. Sibrel is a lying scumbag who shamelessly edited and misrepresented footage of the astronauts.
Bowie was a big Pink Floyd fan from the Syd Barrett era. He even did a cover of See Emily Play. The song Space Oddity is multi faceted. It's about alienation and not fitting in but told in a Space misadventure. The earth is Blue could be a reference to the Earth is sad, if you're feeling blue you're feeling sad! The keeping still is the acceptance of your situation! There are too many questions to the song to answer them all here.
@@shspurs1342 Both this song and Kubrick's movie were inspired by the fact that we were going into outer space for the first time. Astronauts were celebrities and NASA was a national treasure to be proud of.
@@goldenboy140 I just think Heroes has easier songs than these two.It hooks you enough with the fisrt half so you'll keep going with the instrumental songs. But I prefer Station to Station.I mean,It has STS , Stay and Wild Is The Wind
I would imagine the stars would in fact look quite different. What we observe from earth is filtered and polarized by several miles of atmospheric distortion. Since space and the moon haven't got atmosphere, they would likely look very different. Possibly not showing up as much in camera photos because of the exposure value is set to photograph a luminous object like earth or moon or whatever rather that what would be a very fine point of light.
Unsubbed. They have made some pretty dumb comments in the past but "I don't believe we landed on the moon." and "You can't see stars from space." take the cake. I'm done.
@@agresticumbra Well, that's the point dammit, there's nothing wrong not to know "some science things", it's okay, but when you run a channel with multiple K subs, you'd better think twice before saying such dumb things.
Well, they say stupid things and believe in stupid things but they also say very clever stuff that I can learn from. Of cource it sucks that people can believe in a fairy tale they don't even read.
Yeah, we actually live on the moon and we landed on Earth. And you can only see the stars in space if the electricity bill has been paid for the back-projectors.
The reason no stars show up in any of the photos on the moon is because they had to use strong filters on the cameras to get a good photo. The moon has no atmosphere to filter the rays of the sun, and the sun's rays are so bright on the moon that if they took a regular photo it would be totally washed out from the brightness. Also, in space, the stars appear smaller, because the Earth's atmosphere diffuses the light from the stars, making them appear a bit larger to us, here on Earth. So, the combination of the two effects, with the stars appearing smaller out in space and the use of filters, made the stars disappear in the photos. Now you know.
We know, the moon, is really a giant, 100-million-year-old egg that gives life to a winged creature that breaks free of the shell and flies off, laying another egg that becomes a replacement moon for Earth.
Earth is in space, can you see stars? Yes. Those are not lights in the sky put there by a magic man. Star explanation from an article. Stars are clearly visible in space. Actually, we can see them better from space than through our thick atmosphere. That’s why we keep sending telescopes there. The reason they are not visible in photos has a lot more to do with photography than with astronomy. Stars are very dim and the light reflected by the Earth and the Moon is just so much brighter. To take good pictures in space you need to have a high shutter speed and a very short exposure, which means our planet and satellite are clearly visible but the stars often can't be seen. On top of the unusual light conditions in space, there’s another factor, which requires rapid reaction times from the camera. The ISS moves at 8 kilometers per second (17,150 mph) which is great for staying in orbit but less so for not-shaky images. The problem is not just an exclusive issue in space, either. Try and take a photo of the night sky on your mobile phone. How many stars do you see? And what happens if you try to take a picture of something in the foreground, do you still see the stars behind? There’s a reason why astrophotographers use highly expensive equipment that is optimized for the specific task and plan carefully around the hour, weather conditions, and exposure time.
Tangent: the Christian university my brothers and sisters-in-law went to told them they could always tell which entering students went to a non-Catholic Christian high school from their knowledge base. They tended to know very little about English, math, and science, but were very knowledgeable about the Bible. Everything we use today, including RU-vid, came out of the space program and the DOD. NASA returned $7 -$14 for every dollar spent. Computer science was the least of it. (Teflon) When Bowie wrote this, Neil Armstrong had famously described riding the Saturn 5 rocket as 'sitting on top of 10,00 little bidders,' which it was. The Saturn 5 rocket was the most complex machine humanity had ever built. NASA gave up trying to recreate the engines. NASA has all the designs and blueprints, but not the notes on how to put them together. They lost the information on how sub-assemblies were fitted together, what welding techniques worked, and how to fine-tune each engine, as each was unique. NASA has designed (but never built) a replacement engine because they really don't want it. Newer space treaties stipulate everything must burn up on reentry. Also, they would rather send up many smaller payloads because the risks and costs are less.
So... the moon landing seems hard to believe to Sori? I remember a video where she once believed Halloween was nothing but one big satanic ritual. So... I mean, you wouldn't imagine she's a tinfoil hat type...
Seriously never heard of Bowie before? Are you sure we live on the same Planet?..again and again i see how limited the horizon is for christians....denying science.Less Bible, more science Books.....education is the key to the world, not religion.
I love that you're trying new songs on this channel. One of the things I enjoy the most about your videos though is when you break down the lyrics of complex and cryptic music. I hope you can delve more into atmospheric, post-metal style of music because of this.
In the photographs of the moon you can see the International Station with a background sky without stars. This effect is the maximum intensity of sunlight reflected on Earth, so the camera can't capture them, but if you are there you can see them.
Thing about this song is it was written the same year as the moon landing and back then the space capsule had almost no controls in it to keep the weight down. Everything was controled remotely from ground control. So if you lost contact with them you're done.
I think the lyrics “ You really made the grade and the papers want to know whose shirts you wear “ has to do with astronauts becoming celebrities and “who’s shirts you wear ? “ is the equivalent of a reporter asking an actress at an award ceremony Who are you wearing “ meaning which designers’ dress are you wearing.
The song is about a man mesmerized by the experience of being in space above the Earth. "The stars look very different today". In a sort of hypnotic state he leaves the ship and floats off into the vastness of space. He has no desire to go back to his mundane existence on Earth.
Vin and Sori i love your posts/ videos/ ractions ....i find you guys highly intelligent and i whole heartedly share your theological views .....keep em coming
This song uses outer space as a metaphor for being a famous rockstar doing a ton of drugs alone. Elton John has his own version of this song with the same meaning called Rocket Man. David Bowie in another song sings "We know Major Tom's a junkie, strung out in heaven's high."
@@timothyeubanks32100 well known, as in the training picture which was docked later to put on a magazine. No doubt people in marketing tried to jazz some photos up but that has nothing to do with the point i was making or evidence we didn't go.
The reference to how the papers wanting to know, "who's shirt you wear?", is reference to how, in the early days of the space race, the early astronauts were huge celebrities, and ended up getting big product endorsement gigs. Watch the movie, The Right Stuff. It provides a good glimpse of that.
David Bowie has specifically referenced that Syd Barrett inspired the slide sounds on this song. Syd Barrett used to use a zippo lighter to slide up and down the guitar.
y'all, y'all, David Bowie influenced EVERYONE. Ok, that was a bit melodramatic, but overall, there's a point when it really does start to become true. I mean, this song kind of launches his career, (pun intended--I'm not above it.) Immediately after the album, this song came out on Bowie releases 11 albums throughout the next ten years, the '70s: Man Who Sold The World (1970) & Hunky Dory (1971); The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars (1972); Aladdin Sane (1973); Pin Ups (1973,) Diamond Dogs (1974,) & Young Americans (1975); Station To Stations (1976); Low (1977,) Heroes (1977,) & Lodger (1979.) A period that includes 6 of his infamous personas, including Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke. *If y'all do ANY research I suggest looking up those two personas. The song "Heroes" off the album Heroes, (2nd album in the "Berlin Trilogy",) is my all-time favorite David Bowie song and I highly recommend checking it out. Though I am not sure what exactly was used on the song, saxophones are all over some of rock's greatest songs. Check out the late Clarence Clemons from Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, "Jungleland," "Born To Run" & "Prove It All Night." He also recorded with Lady Gaga, Roy Orbison, Gloria Estefan, Joe Crocker, Aretha Franklin, & Todd Rundgren. Vin! The media was super silly back then, for sure. Escape From The Planet Of The Apes does a great job parodying the media of the time, but you can look up celebrity interviews from the time and see an interesting blend of pretentious and frivolous.
This song was released the same year that humankind first landed on the moon. The previous year, "2001: A Space Odyssey" was released. And although a handful of humans had already orbited the Earth, it was still imagined that the isolation of being alone in space would drive any person insane fairly quickly.
Steven Wilson did a nice cover of this and speaking of Steven Wilson, you really should react to Routine (the official video), i wanna see some actual tears being shed on this channel! I want some good drama!
You commented about the calmness. When Apollo 13 had problems, what the crew told ground control was "Houston, we have a problem."This is how the astronauts are trained,
Woschod 2 launched on March 18, 1965 with Leonov and his commander Pavel Beljajew on board. In the Earth orbit Leonov was the first person left his spaceship and floated free in space. Chapter two "Ashes to Ashes"
This song was inspired by the movie Space Odyssey which Bowie saw for the first time high af and this song basically came from that experience. side note: the newspapers want to know whose shirt you wear is pretty much UK slang for 'which football(soccer) team do you follow'. ..because obviously astronauts opinions matter. side side note: we did land on the moon. we left mirrors there that you yourself (with the right equipment) can bounce lasers off...their intended purpose. ...also you can see stars in space, just not when standing on the surface of the moon when the sun is reflecting off it. Just like you don't see stars in the daytime for the same reason. Truth is easy if you earnestly seek it.
Vin and sori you need to react to David Bowie" Blackstar "video or song. His swan song released right before his death. It's riveting and haunting at the same time
*guys* some much needed context. This was Bowie's breakout hit in part because of The Apollo missions where this song got attached to by the media. Also given the knowledge level of the time, and we had *just* landed on the moon, everything seemed possible! It was perceived as realistic and within our grasp to send humans traveling thru space
Bruh I know I'm Roman-catholic and some other branches of Christians are so stupid and it makes me laugh when I hear creationists, moon landing deniers, ect. because it sounds so stupid
And now you ought to watch Chris Hadfield’s cover. He’s a retired astronaut, and recorded his video in the international space station. He had permission from David Bowie.
Yep...after REM, Bob Jovi, Phil Collins and now David Bowie... it's time for some Madonna, Michael Jackson and Spice girls... What the hell am I doing here....
You numbnuts must have been the ones that asked for it probably. And its funny cause of all the real metal songs being requested and instead we get david bowie...
Yes you see stars in outer space but if you take a picture on the moon the moon it self reflects light. So you would either get a white out of the moon to pic up the fainter light of the stars or have the proper lighting of the moon and the faint light of the stars doesn't appear in the picture. It's the same if your photograph the earth. You can see this if you go out on a sunny day and take a photo of your house. Any faint light that is in the rooms doesn't appear through the windows in photographs. Also if you take a photo while in a room during a sunny day any light in the windows across the room just whites out the window and no details of objects outside can be seen.
Stylistically, this is so out there for its time, it's hard to believe this was recorded by David Bowie and aired in late June, 1969, timely a few weeks ahead of the July 16, 1969 Apollo launch that landed the first men on the moon.
