I love the second album. First one had a ragged energy; second one was more nuanced. Both were great and truly underrated. And the band was critical to Bowie’s revival as an artist. But I wish Ton Machine had continued on longer.
Saw Tin Machine at the Palladium. Half empty, free ticket, GREAT show! Respected Bowie for ending his "Let's Dance" pop era with this return to edginess.
I was there. Bought my tickets right out of the gate. Wouldn't have missed it. Think half the crowd were at the upstairs (backstage) bar. Industry show. Only time Bowie didn't sell out in LA. Figured most ppl were to lame to know TM was Bowie. Didn't know they had to paper the room w/ tix. That's pretty sad. It was great and Amazing to see Bowie at a small hall.
This was such a welcome break from the way the industry had turned him into a pop artist at the time...Bowie seems much more relaxed it reminds me of the early days with the Spiders
David is so vividly alive here. The camera just loved him. As many of his fans -- including me -- still do ... Oh, how I miss him :( But this was sweet to see. He always made me smile. He really had quite a sense of humor and it is such a treat to see him goofing about here. God bless that genius of a man who was, and will go on to be, a life saver for so many of us.
I went down to the Rythm of love and ended up with a monster from hell. Thirty plus years I feared for my safety like many women, and my honour and self-esteem didn't disappear because I had a legion of helpers, relatives included, there helping me,praying for me and loving me( women and men). Love this song One shot. If there is violence in your home speak to your family. If there is an Addiction problem--- seek counselling and ask family to help. Many men and women won't speak to their families for help and support. Addicts use until they use up all the goodwill of family and friends. Partners or not using in any way is wrong. There is help available for spouses who are victims of violence and abuse. Remember that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. If you're sick and tired of being abused speak to your Dr and healthcare professional and ask for help. I'm alive cause of a miracle. I was saved because i beleive I was a good person, but needed to work on my life. And truth that everyone whose born was born innocent. What they become is another matter. If you've caused violence towards another person there is help for you too. You need to remember that you can't make a deal with God. Women and men who abuse their spousesmentally and/or physically only need look as far as their doctors office for referral to a healthcare facility that offers therapy and help to end the Hell, the shame, and fear of running ,and trying to control others and using everyone that's good in their lives. Darkness goes when the light at the end of the tunnel appears. Whatever life force that created us meant us to all live in ☮️. Power absolute corrupts absolutely. Forgiveness comes from those that forgive but it also comes with the promise to remember that ones been forgiven.
*@Kommissar* ___The first track sounded amazing ,although that Gabrels bloke is all over the bloody place....It was too technically "dazzling".. without the soul of his 70's work...Bowie ditching Ronson after a mere 5 years , while thinking nothing of working for decades with the same boring bunch of studio technicians.... Me personally, ..I switched off after '87...
Agree. I actually love the first Tin Machine album, there's some great tracks on it. The problem I think most people had with them was that they were very up and down when it came to performing live. They could be great one night and a total disaster the next, as probably happens with a lot of bands, but people don't expect a bad performance from Bowie
THANK YOU MDBTM LOVED IT SIMPLY JUST GOT NEW SUBWOOFER AND JAMMED ME ARSE OFF TO THIS AS 1ST VID AUDIBLE NOW I THAT I GOT SOME VOLUME LOL AS ALWAYS PEACE LOVE LIGHT~~~DA KID :)
I saw them at Brixton Academy in 1991 (I think). I loved 'You Belong In Rock-N-Roll and the Roxy Music track 'If There Is Something'. I left the concert thinking it had been adequate, and great to see Bowie. Nothing special, unlike the 'Ziggy' tour in 73 and Serious Moonlight tour in 83, which I took in. Sadly never saw him live again after 1991. My loss.
Like the sound of Tin Machine and their music is incomparable to other rockbands that are out there doing their best. I think that they're really good at letting it Roll... Oneshot is like a wake up call for those out there that beleive in true love and have experienced trauma in a relationship and found it hard to part ways and let go of negativity, and adversity. Windows and wives says it all.xoxoxo
Tin Machine 1 was great. Tin Machine 2, eh? Tin Machine live was great. Saw the first tour at the World NYC, extraordinary. David Bowie sang like his head was going to explode. Saw the 2nd tour twice on 43rd street NYC. The first night sucked; when Bowie went down on Reeves Garbrels' guitar, we left. The next night, they were great, on fire and roaring. A nice diversion but that 2nd record was a clunker.
Hey, I was at the word of mouth World gig in ‘89 as well! Remember everyone leaving because he wasn’t doing his stuff? That’s when teensy me bulldozed to the front😉. Don’t think the album was even out yet. I was in heaven, it was so exciting!
@@RnR-Rebel That was an extraordinary show. I was also at the taping of the Tin Machine videos at the Ritz a few monhths earlier. NY at the right place and right time can have great results.
@@greatsewing6061 - Lucky you! In ‘89 I was doing too much at once & while I had a grand time, had to miss a few things here & there. I have a pic of Bowie backstage at the World dated from that night 14 July ‘89. NY is forever my home, but those days are long gone🙁. At least we can say we were part of something exciting! Not to mention, I always said only way I will see Bowie is if he played a nightclub. (I was a tad too young to see him as Ziggy, almost died at a gen admission arena show so I stayed away from seeing him live.) I got my wish, saw TM’s 1st unannounced gig, was at his feet, watched him create his art live, was content & happy!
Tin Machine was an important band for Bowie in that it took him out of the more mainstream arena pop/rock of the mid to late 80's, to something a bit more artsy/edgy/experimental. I think he carried that vibe till his passing.
Saw Tin Machine at the Palladium. Surreal. 300 people in the audience, you could walk right up to the stage. Imagine Tin Machine playing at a wedding -- that is what it was like. Loved this edgier change of direction after his "Let's Dance" era.
This made my day, man I love Tin Machine they were awesome!!! David could have made the Let’s Dance album over and over but decided to always push the envelope... It’s great to see him really enjoying himself with Tin Machine and always sounding great... he’s always an inspiration
Okay, as most of you probably have noticed, this was a mimed performance but the audio aside, there's more visual clues too. David is playing the same strumming style throughout the song but it's different from what he played on the song itself. Reeves is barely touching his guitar and his ever present and very extensive pedal board, which is an essential part of his sound, isn't anywhere to be seen . Note also that his amp is a BASS amp. See the black "skins" on the drums? Those are dampening pads, you can whack them as hard as you like but there's no sound. Note also that there's an actual cup of coffee on the floor tom.
@@simonecooke90 it's mimed. At one point the drummer got out of his seat and whispered something to Bowie and the drums kept playing!? That's a bit of a clue eh?
There's an interview where Bowie explains about all kinds of shit going wrong with the band's gigs. As usual, changes were part of who he was.He stayed with Gabriel's for about 10 years though
@@GayRocker81 I liked Tin Machine as a band (or idea of a band depending on which side of the fence people sit on!) but I gotta say, I never liked those two. They always felt like square pegs in a round hole to me. I think it says a lot that he sorted the proverbial wheat from the chaff, kept Reeves and moved on putting as much distance between him and the brothers as possible. I seem to remember hearing they were more than a little problematic - over-estimating their importance would be putting it mildly.
Man, I miss David. He is so intelligent, talented, creative, artistic, funny, his voice is beautiful, he's beautiful. I look forward to seeing the release of Moonage Daydream. It is the only Bowie movie I would see as he narrarates and it is him performing his music. I was blessed to see him 5 times and I would never want to watch someone trying to portray him...because ya just can't. His presence just can't be reproduced.
I only ever had one criticism about Bowie. It’s not the albums Tonight or Never Let Me Down or Tin Machine. This is really pedantic but it’s that he pierced his ear! It’s always really bothered me. Other than that, I think he was a genius.....sometimes. Most of the time. I was so in love with him as a 14/15 year old. Growing up in a shitty industrial town in the eighties he was my escape. And partly responsible for my life from 22 - 48. So for that I’m eternally grateful. Thank you Mr. Jones.
Tin Machine is due for the critical reappraisal. You can draw a line from Tin Machine to ‘Black Star’ It was Bowie & Gabrels & The Sales Bros. (pre) figuring Grunge’s total takeover in the 90s And they just f*ckin’ rocked man!
at the times, tin machine music didn't really click with bowie fans, they really were in orbit because bowie universe landed on then. thanks for posting amazing footage
One Shot, which is my favorite song on the second album, seems like it is dubbed in this rehearsal footage. Why would they do that if this was only a rehearsal? Anyway, any footage with Bowie in this positive mood is good footage. He was inspired and happy being part of this band.
David dear you were entertainer of the year from 1969 to 2016. And I sincerely mean that statement. There will never be another like him so full of talent and kindness ✨️ ❤️ 😊 RIP David Bowie❤
I think they weren't aware of that Australian show, when this countdown first aired in the late seventies there was no such thing as internet. And most Dutch watchers of the show weren't aware of the Australian show either.
I saw Tin Machine live at Brixton academy on the 2nd album tour, it was my 1st ever live concert! Take out the drummer's 2 songs where he sings & the 2nd album is good!
I honestly don't think the problem with Tin Machine was Tin Machine. The problem was the 90s- those two albums are a clear sign post to what was '90s rock'. Either way, it's much better than the previous two albums!
Its funny when I used to play in bands that was some of my favourite times when you started joking about with your songs or even when your writing. It can actually be the most creative moments
Gosh thanks, saw them live in Offenbach/Germany in 1990. Pretty little concert that was, very intimate. Great short trip that Tin Machine was. Great inspiration every day.
