No he couldn’t and he knew that. He went to Brussels with demands before the referendum throwing his weight around. He lost the referendum and would need to return with his begging bowl. There was no way for him to save face. He wanted to change rules in Brussels. With the UK out of the EU he would not be able to change any rules in the EU. The UK is now a rule taker and this still hasn’t sunk in in peoples heads in the UK. Buckle your seatbelt we’re in for a bumpy ride!

He increased the tax threshold, Put in billions to sort out the West country's neglected infrastructure, allowed same sex marriage and rebuild the economy from the mess of Blair/Brown. He was a pretty good PM in my opinion.

It was a big gamble . He was a likable guy. But because of his slim majority, he was held to ransom by the backbenchers and the right wing press to hold the referendum. Had Remain won, he would have shut the backbenchers up for decades, but we know how it turned out...
