Prime Minister David Cameron gets a telling-off from Speaker John Bercow for his description of the Shadow Chancellor during PMQs. Report by Adam Sich. Like us on Facebook at / itn and follow us on Twitter at / itn
Oh, I so miss Bercow, the man that turned so many people on to politics by making the Commons an interesting place to spend a few hours if only from your sofa!!!
Cameron has made Britain the fastest growing economy in the developed world, took people who earn 12500 and under out of tax, created 1.8 million new jobs, capped benefits at 24k, cut fuel duty, created apprenticeships, help to buy for first time buyers, halved the deficit, cut corporation tax to encourage international corporations to move to Britain created sanctions for job seekers who don't turn up to sign on to look for jobs promised a eu referendum and much more that I cant remember and that's in 5 years
The 12500 has been promised for next term. The deficit has been halved as a percentage of gdp. Corporation tax has been cut and will be cut further and corporations are going to be made to pay this next term. I disn't look foolish until you started disagreeing with me. I can provide sources for each of my point ps made except for cutting fuel duty you were right it has been frozen.
Joe Mark Everyone has kept us out of the Euro! Economy better than 2010 when Labour were thrown out, and why do you not quote the years 2008 to 2010? That is when Labour went wild with our money. And why do you repeat Ed Balls' lie about a double dip recession? He also predicted a triple dip recession, neither happened!
Hassan mohammed salah In my dermis? R u in England? Is this what we hear about immigrants not speaking the language or learning it while they are here? Do u mean "In your dreams"? And if u r not in England, stop knocking UKIP!
Hassan mohammed salah Not into that sorry, but if u r into that, please enjoy yourself, have a lovely day and may our Christian God Bless u and keep u safe always.
All you is just some middle class bozo who thinks that politics is easy and that selfishly claiming that its you the government must look out for and not the country itself. Learn some politics you peasant minded , low flying, uneducated swine.
Neko -chan middle-class people aren't allowed to have opinions on politics then? And you accuse UKIP of being against democracy, when here you are acting as if these people shouldn't be allowed a say.
Jim bob "at least they're educated" - you're as bad as these bumbling IDIOTS we have running the country... absolutely ignorant and ARROGANT enough to believe that they are the only ones EDUCATED enough to run the country and that anyone else is not clever enough. It's called DECADENCE and the ruling classes believe they are the only ones suited to run the country and by the sounds of it YOU agree with them!! Clearly they're NOT educated enough to run the country COMPETENTLY else we wouldn't be in such a mess that we find ourselves in now, would we? Another one with his head up his arse.
Yeah Blair and Gordon, the self confessed Thatcher's boys like Cameron with their right wing Thatcherite policies. No wonder then that you cannot place a cigarette paper between them all. Blair and Brown were right wing policy advocates.... so why don't you like them if you like right wing policy???
Megatron2013 How is he better? He promised all sorts of things in the last election, and failed to keep them. So in actual fact, he's just as bad as them two!
Question: When an MP says a word that is unkind or insulting, and refuses to withdraw it, he is asked to leave the Commons for the rest of the day. But what happens if the Prime Minister refuses to withdraw? Would he be removed? That would defeat the entire purpose of those weekly engagements.
Don't forget that this is PMQ and not real politics, this was just designed to get people interested in it. Real politics is signing forms and going to meetings with one or two people all day long. Your country is in safe hands, but every now and then they get pissed off at each other and this is one of the few opportunities they have.
"Wow, so you're basically saying that so long as you don't know you're paying, then it's free." - That's exactly right. The point is the PUBLIC were covering the cost, so the fiscal effect on the student back then was totally insignificant. You can't owe what you cannot SEE.
"Keep telling yourself how great you are, maybe one day somebody other than yourself will believe it." - I don't need to tell the anybody how great I am, it's clearly evident.
Andrew Brailsford UKIP are a bunch of Tories with red ties. They will never get into power whether you like them or not. This is due to the 'first past the post' electoral system. The Tories will detract from Ukip and vice versa, which is why Labour will win the next election, which I am not particularly fond of. Besides, the EU beats a lone UK any day.
James Burton You've fallen for a few myths there. What you say about first past the post is largely true, it is very hard for a small party to make big gains, but I wouldn't say its impossible. Aside from that though, Ukip are not a bunch of Tories with red ties. I'm a member of UKIP, and quite a lot of UKIP members hate the Tories with a passion. The Tory party, since Cast-iron Dave "modernized" it, isn't even Tory any more. It does not represent Tory values such as social conservatism, capitalism or neo-liberalism. In practice, all the Conservative Party is, is just another corporatist party; the same as Labour and the Liberal Democrats. That's why the big three parties all watch each other's backs when it comes to UKIP, because they are all corporatist parties, whereas UKIP is a capitalist party, advocating free market principles and also libertarianism. Corporatism is a form of collectivism, whereas capitalism is individualism. Individualism is the opposite of collevtivism, and with all this in mind, any notion that UKIP is the same as the Tories is almost laughable. Also, less than half of our vote comes from the Tories, we are taking almost as much from Labour. Its a complete myth that we only take votes from the Tories. Oh, and we have purple ties, not red. The EU beats a lone UK - this statement is riddled with myth too. Firstly, this idea that the UK will somehow be "alone" outside the EU is nonsense. We have the Commonwealth, who we've turned our backs on, then there is NATO and our vacant seat at the WTO. We are the 6th largest economy in the world. Britain can and will thrive outside the EU, this is clear as we see so many countries who are much smaller also doing so. Secondly, you aren't really going to keep the UK if you stay in the EU for long enough. There is a reason why it is called "European Union", why it has a flag and an anthem, why it has a parliament, and makes the majority of our laws, enforcing more upon us with each passing week. Because it is a political union. Already our government has essentially become a puppet of the comissioners in Europe. Just look at the way Dave has to go to these people in Europe and beg in a small voice "Please sir, can I have some more". Its a very sad sight to see. And even if losing your national identity isn't enough to worry you, just look at the economic side of things. This is the same EU that has been in decline for forty years, whose accounts haven't been signed off for twenty years in a row. The entire thing is a collectivist movement, worshipping corporations and giving power to a centralised few in a highly anti-democratic manner (how many of the comissioners did you vote for?), just like any good socialist regime would. The signs are all there, you just need to see them. History has shown us time and time again what happens when collectivism closes its grip on a nation, and we are on a collision course with socialism for as long as we stay in this union.
Considering that 95% of people in Parliament are overgrown Public Schoolboys, its a miracle that anybody can take Ed Ball's seriously with a second name like that.
The problem is no one is willing to stand up. Years from now, when our descendants grow up and enter society they have nothing to look forward to. We have immigration problems, the tax and V.A.T. is too high, there's no jobs, businesses are closing down and the economy is on the verge of self-implosion. We need to find our voice and we need to find it now. The Egyptians didn't stand for their corrupt government, they spoke and they were heard. It's about time we did the same.
Even the head of the IMF - Christine Largarde said it makes her "Shiver thinking what the Uk would be like if no fiscal policy or plan was introduced to reduce the deficit and the national debt! Balls thinks borrowing and spending will create growth and a reduction in VAT is the only option when they reduced VAT to 15% only to rise itr again a year later! - this only increased our national debt and raised mortages and interest rates.
No, the tax cut doesn't make sense; it was for people who already have disposable income. If, for example, they had raised the personal allowance to 15-20k, for normal people, THEN it would make sense.. And that's just IT! Schools chose to become academies to avoid impending slash of the schools budget - now they've slashed the academies budget too! It's true what they say - the Tories don't win elections, Labour lose them. People get tired of Labour, and forget the Tories true colours.
Any Gov that leaves office when our own country is on the brink of bankruptcy, has the cheek to say "There's no money left!" yet doesn't have a coherent plan to deal with our deficit or national debt or to regulate our banks when they were in crisis is an IDIOT, FACT! It was Gordon Browns failure & his lack of prudence as chancellor & PM that did it. Under Labour we bailed out RBS & Lloyds only for the chief executive to leave with pension worth £20million! -All thanks to Gordon Brown's legacy!
The Speaker was employing ironic sarcasm against the Health Minister. It's a formidable weapon if used effectively, but I guess the subtlety may have been lost on you.
Even 'c*nt' is too polite a word to describe Ed Balls. I didn't think it was possible to hate a politician as much as I hated Gordon Brown, boy I was wrong.
WWII destroyed the British economy, Attlee's government dealt with it effectively, managing to survive the worst crisis any British government has faced. Britain was losing its power anyway, the age of empire was over and the US and the Soviet Union were the new powers. As for the NHS: born at a time of crisis, survived for 60 years, its gonna be fine.
No she does not have power, she can only dissolve any parliament at the request of the government currently in office. Without their request she cannot dissolve any government!
The tie was kind of distracting. I think in the rush to discard apparently useless pomp like the traditional robes, it's forgotten that they have the effect of depersonalizing the wearer. You see his office, not him personally. With that tie, this is clearly JOHN BERCOW quite as much as the Speaker.
At what price? Much of it hasn't even been publiscised; schools have suffered really badly - and they've gone after the academies budget now (some schools changed to avoid the cut). Police, fire and ambulance cuts have sent up response times too. And you don't just GET benefits. You have to qualify. Being unemployed isn't enough - you get jobseekers, that's it. Now we hear that the disabled are going to have their welfare frozen. How is that POSSIBLY justifiable after the tax cut for the rich?
Do you have a sense of humour ? They are allowed to laugh you know, just because someone has a sense of humour doesn't mean they can't run the country.
Like most politicians in this country.........they all think its a big joke that the country is going down the pan!!!!!!. A curse on all their houses!!!.
