Actually, Americans wanted to take TX so they could build a slave-based cotton economy, merge with the US to strengthen the slave state coalition which later became the Confederate States of America. "Bold Yankee Yohman" doesn't sound like ANYTHING a Texan would call anyone born in the Tennessee mountains, certainly not in the U.S. before WWII. SFAIK, "YOHMAN" in the U.S. only refers to a low naval rank. I believe that it was a medieval English term for a free farmer, above a slave, but not by much.
