I didn't like the 80s. It kept feeling like it was falling just short all the time. Like the engine of a sports car that won't quite turn over. For me, things really took off in the early/mid-90s. The internet arrived. Computers _finally_ started living up to the promise they'd made 20 years before. Conservative politics in the Anglosphere was on the back burner and progressives were moving us forward again. The 80s were the prep to all that... but not that themselves.
@@kceres Omg! I had my crush during this time period on girl named Christina. 32 years later and we both turned out to be gay. I'm friends with her wife and Chris is friendly with my husband. They're both baseball fanatics. Who would have thought? 😅😅🤣🤣
@Norberto Fontanez music these days is just like Holly weird they reproduce a movie over and over again or add a number to it just like music they reproduce a bead and wrap their music over the beat nothing but stolen music of the past to their own words I mean just look at this generation a bunch of retards
@@ronaldojeras6760 Philippians Chapter 3 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
I just remember having so many cool friends. I never saw them as black, white, Spanish, or Asians... they were simply my friends. I love and miss all of them. ❤😢
Life moves so quickly. The days can be long, but the years fly by and, eventually, you're only left with nostalgia for the past. This is a masterpiece and it brings so much emotion.
Is it just me, or did life zoom by after high school??? Graduated 1984. 4 adult children and 2 grandchildren later, I miss all those guys from school and wish they are all happy with life. ❤
@@gustavomartinez6087 Sorry Gus, the 80's were unique. High energy music, dancing, people still dressed nice. Today is tattooed looking trash with the no social skills.
Whenever I listen to this or watch this movie, I am reminded about the fact that time doesn’t stand still. There will never be another today. Live it to the fullest and don’t always look back. Great piece of music, David Foster!
This song captured our lives beautifully in the 80s - 90s. I was in highschool and like the theme of the movie, the thought of being caught between young and what the future holds was just so true. Even now, those moments still hang around and we're still trying to figure out how to live the rest of our lives... Enjoy "life as it happens around you" because one day when it's gone, hopefully - if you're lucky - you'll have great memories to take with you when you go... ☺️
I was a freshman in college. First time away from home. Away from my first love. We stayed together 7 years. Like an idiot I was too busy to see the signs. That she wanted to get married. I lost her. The breakup tore me apart. Wherever she is- I wish her joy and immense happiness. This song takes me back
Music videos that’s what it brings me back to you know? Simpler times. To think MTV used to be about music videos as VH1 did as well.. and BET and we tuned in to see the music video of a film or of an artist’s latest album.. I miss those days and in the words of Eddie money I want to go back…
i would give up 5 years of whatever is left of my life to spend 1 year back in the 80's. people enjoyed life and weren't so bent out of shape about every little thing....
@@saltee_crcker2363oh god don’t I know it - I grew up in the 90s and 2000s but was born in the 80s. People then were really chill, really cool about stuff. Todays kids are weird as hell. They get so uptight about the slightest things. They blame everyone for everything too!
Graduated HS in 88. What a great time it was. I was a breakdancer, loved the 80's girls, big hair, no social media, plenty of actual talk and the movies like this were a big deal.
Oh man - so jealous. I turned 6 in 80 and love the decade just as much as you did. But so wish, looking back on how the world has de-volved, that I would have turned 18 in 1980. I would build a time machine to go 80-89 and then repeat.
I was fortunate to grow up in the 80s. This is one of my favorite movies of all, and every time I hear the theme song I think about college and how much I miss it. If anything I learned, if you have to chase your dreams because they won't chase you back...
I was in high school when this came out, perfect metaphor for being stuck between moving on with your life and at the same time not wanting to let go of your youth...having to say goodbye to the people that were the most important to you at the time and facing an unknown future...a lot to digest when your only 18...I miss that time...
The script of this movie was so brilliantly written, the days great movies depended on talented writers, actors and directors NOT special effects or CGI.
@@MsSparklesNGlitter The hype over some movies today confuses me. I’ll watch a movie that everyone is talking about and I am left feeling nothing, like there’s some part of the movie they forgot to put in. I walk away feeling like I missed something. Instead of having an impact on my emotions, it’s covered up with action and special effects. Unless, I’ve just become jaded as I’ve gotten older? 🤪🤯
I lost one of my best friends of 40 years 7 months ago, and just about bawled my eyes out listening to this. I'm 51 and he would've been 50 this past May.
Easily one of the best songs ever. It does something to you that can’t easily be described. If this is the last song I hear before dying, I would be going out happy
My God, where did the time go? 4 children, 2 grandchildren. I saw this on a date at the theater at a cost of $1.75. Thank you, 1980s, for all the memories. Love, us older guys and girls. ❤
The 80s best decade for film and music ,I was fortunate to grow up in that Era, the memories of my youth will always be with me ,I absolutely love this song ,so soothing
Bryan Go ~ Why do people say it was "simpler" times, when it really wasn't? The same thing is said of the 60s and 70s. There was a lot of problems and complexities in the world in the 80s, that brought us to where we are now. It seemed simpler because we saw it through the eyes of youth, our view and fond memories of the time. We filter the bad. Do you think we'll look back on today in 30 years and say it was simpler times?
I don't buy it. Why do you call "simpler" a decade with financial crisis, a constant threat of nuclear war, no treatment for aids, no environmental consciousness, machism and homophobia? Why don't people just enjoy what this decade brought us instead of longing for past decades?
This song is like the love theme of the 80s. David Foster production, saxophone, from a famous film with full of 80s legends, it's kind of corny, it's beautiful, melancholic, dreamy, catchy, cheezy but yet unforgettable. The 80s were the greatest, really. Hit the replay.
Best thing about the 80s was President Reagan....rock and roll is from 1956 when Elvis started his legendary to career, to about 20 years later, when the evil disco crap started ruining music
I'm picking nits, but as a former sax player, someone should have told that chick how to hold one, how to fake play...not even close-lol,,,but will always love this song!
The 80s were my teenage years. The whole entertainment industry was absolutely awesome. I still listen to the music on a daily basis. BEST DECADE EVER!
Every decade has its moments, but the 80s will always be the best for those of us that were fortunate to be able to experience it and wish we could go back.
The nostalgia that wells up , its unexplicable. Is it sadness? Loss of youth I guess😕? What a beautiful composition of music. Back again 2023. Just lost a friend yesterday we were friends during this era. If only we knew then, what we know now. Cherish your family and friends, tell them you love them....today, dont wait.💓
For me...having the best friends ever for decades..it's going through the loves and the breakups, the births and deaths, the good and the bad...always loving..never judging..unconditional friendships. Looking back and really how truly thankful to God I am and how blessed I have been to have such friends in my life!
Better to shed a bittersweet tear, than to have blinked and missed the moment. Everything being relative, a life with no pain would be as unbalanced as a life with only joy. There would be no boundary to make a distinction by which time could be measured. Much like the contrast of day and night, one needs struggle and pain to appreciate ease and comfort. Nostalgia is simply the mind crafting a space for those memories to live again. Child's play for an imagination stifled by the 9 to 5 grind, we sometimes are better time-travelers than we give ourselves credit for.
We have had over 30 years to perfect our lives, find true love in our hearts. Be with our soul mates and make our lives what we want them to be. Here we are. Broke, broken down and loveless!
Usually, most people want to go back to a time mentally when they were young teens/adults, but I’m finding that the 80”s was an exception because whether you were a child, young adult, old etc.. they all want to cling to this beautiful era in time!
Every time I hear this song it's almost as if I am hearing it for the very first time. It moves me in a way I simply can't describe well enough. It makes me feel very young and very old at the same time. Like I am watching someone's life pass before my eyes and sometimes I feel that life is my life. Wonderful music from a time that was so very different from today.
The 80’s will hold a special ceremony lace for me. My first boyfriend and I loved to slow dance to this song. I was 16 and he turned out to be my husband. We split 19 yrs later and this song haunts me. But what a great decade.
If I ever get married, this is going to be my wedding song. I was born in 1968, grew up with songs of the '70s and '80s and this will be the song that I will get married to.
You’re 55 now. Chances of you getting married and having a happy life is slim to none because all the women your age are already married or divorced with lots of baggage. The ones who aren’t married are well…living with cats.
@@JohnLee-db9zt Of all the people who commented, you chose to come after me? I'm good with how things are now. I was being hypothetical with my response to the song, which is my right and everyone else's. I see you came here to be a disruptive force. Care to comment on the song or what?
I never get tired of hearing this fabulous piece of music I'm a 80sholic and this film is still in my top 10 and I'm 45 now and so miss those days they will never be repeated in my lifetime or any other they were unique.
I'm almost 40 and I totally agree. This movie showcased how back then, that movies had brilliant writers. Who could develop incredible characters and storylines. You add on top of that, how the 7 who got picked for these main roles were all truly talented actors. We would never get a movie like this today, ever.
@@MsSparklesNGlitter I agree being myself as 90s kids born in 1996 I also miss 80s so much because I 💖80s so much filled with emotional moments and innocence we could not get back those 80s again I love these 80s music sounds so much and all the music producers were incredible and life was really incredible in 80s compared to today
Cause the 80s had the right balance of everything. A taste of technology but it wasn't over done. Family, hope, opportunity. Everything was in balance. That's why it was such a great time. Today everything is way way way out of balance. We choke on technology and family is now social media. It's out of balance. As a result everything is completely screwed up.
I was a senior in high school when this movie was released. I was struggling with knowing one chapter of my life was ending while another chapter was just beginning. This song reminds me of better days when my biggest worry was whether I’d get to see my girlfriend that day. This song reminds me of the time in my life when I was most happiest and when everyone I knew was still alive. Damn, I miss the 1980s. Hell, I miss my youth. I’ve seen this movie easily 50 times. I’ll watch it anytime it is being aired. This movie is the quintessential 1980s movie. This song conjures up unbelievable nostalgia.
...and yet it bombed when it was released didn't it? I was just a kid and I just wanted more fun brat pack movies.... I guess in hindsight it was a clever move having these characters grow up and move on instead of just repeating the same John Hughes formula over and over but, man.... I don't think people got it at the time.
"...and when everyone I knew was still alive." A truly profound insight and statement. I am 67 years old and spent 31 years in the army and air force. A lot of the ones I knew and served with are no more thanks to war. Truly sad.
@Jim Flanary thank you for your service and all your friends who made the ultimate sacrifice. I sometimes feel guilty because only by luck I wasn't sent to war. The luck being born in 66.
@@Smackgiverthank you for the compliment. I tell my kids all the time that writing is simply putting your thoughts into words. Anyone can write well, with enough practice.
This music, as many others from the 80's, has helped inspire the writings of a book I'm working on that takes you back to the 80's. A time before cell phones and social media. A time when being with friends was everything in the world and cruising the Blvd was a must on the weekends. I'm so thankful I was a teenager growing up in the 80's. Greatest decade ever!
The 1980s were far behind the 1960s. The 60s were four decades in one, sudden radical changes from one year to the next, Youth emancipation, rebellion, a quixotic fight against the imposible. The 80s were mor e like "The Empire Strikes Back", "The Revenge of the Burgoise", "Plutocracy Capitalism Triumphs", "Dreams are only dreams".
Thirty-six years have passed by now. Still a great favourite of mine to play on my sax. Sadly a few of my school & college friends are now leaving this life.
Sorry about your friends but you need to know there still out there. Its heart breaking to lose people, but the good news is there alive beyond what understand in the mainstream. Always wanted to learn the saxophone just to play this song!
The 80’s …why do we love it and miss it so much ? Maybe it was the one decade in which nothing bad really happened . And growing up in this decade was simply beautiful.
One of the greatest 1980's movies of all time in my book. Loved this movie so much! Best times in my life as a teenager! Best memories to date! 1985 please come back to me!
Totally agree, didn't you believe at the time that it was perfectly cast? l could imagine those characters possibly being who they were in real life. Didn't Demi actually go on to have substance abuse issues and Rob Lowe because of his free and easy lifestyle with women had some real challenges early in his career. Just a few other things, not enough is made of the fact that 2 of the most beautiful women of the era Andie McDowell, and Demi Moore were cast in the same movie and neither one of them was a blond. With the beautiful music written by David Foster this movie was one for the ages.
@@gregoryphillips3969the blonde thing you mentioned-yes I noticed that..most “hot chicks” in movies of today are blonde. Most “sexy” reality show girls are also blonde. Maybe this is just in the UK though.
The 80’s Demi Moore, St. Elmo’s Fire, About Last Night, No Small Affair, Blame It On Rio, My 80’s crush!!😍😍😍😍 , but this movie made me glad to be young in the 80’s , great times!
