This is by far his BEST solo ever. We all can play Comfortably Numb or Sorrow or On the Turning Away. Little bit of practice you can figure it out and play. This solo.... Bring Jeff Beck let him try... Nobody could play this solo. Forget about Slash or whoever you think is the best guitarist. This solo cannot be replicated. It is the best it can get. And that Tele... From the very first Tele to today, no other Tele sounded like this. Melted our hearts, screamed like this. I'm sure after this solo that white Tele said finally someone who can actually play!!! This is the best guitar solo ever. Not the album version, not any other version. This is it. We will never hear anything like this ever again. We're all so lucky to be able to listen to this masterpiece.

@martykehoe8510
@martykehoe8510 3 года назад
@@5yearsout I agree that this is a great solo, however I have to go with the studio version. That version is a little less "rocking" but it is filled with emotion and soul unlike any other Gilmour solo. This version is absolutely great and he is improvising quite a bit, but there is just "something" about the studio version that just penetrates my soul like no other. It is like it is telling a story. Also, the studio version is held together by the absolutely awesome bass line and lap steel guitar. Both played by DG as well. Long live the great David Gilmour!!!
@TimothyBussMusic

The reason that solo can never be replicated exactly is that there is only one Dave Gilmour. He created music like nobody else. It certainly is the most evocative solo of all time.

You rarely ever here Gilmour rip a solo to an upbeat song and also in a major key. And he most definitely killed it here. Gilmour, hands down has the best phrasing on guitar in contemporary music.

Atom Heat Mother was my first Pink Floyd record. Fat Old Sun was a favorite of mine.
@waltercorteselli
@waltercorteselli 6 лет назад

3:33 I just love it when he looks across at the other guitarists, "Okay, boys, let's rock this on home." AND the grins on their faces. You can just tell they are DIGGING playing with the master. The only thing wrong with that guitar solo is that it should have gone on for about 20 more minutes.

Such a huge catalog of music to choose from. That he can take an obscure song from one of Pink Floyd’s more obscure albums and do THIS with it… just incredible. I love seeing Dave play the old Pink Floyd stuff.

To everyone else, there are 3 Floyd albums that are NOT obscure. To the band members, only the last 3 of their initial run that were basically Roger's first solo albums are obscure, lol. I'll change my mind when I hear David jamming to Two Suns in the Sunset 😅

I've listened to many different versions of this song since I was a kid in the 1980s. There are many variations of course but I think this is the nicest overall live recording of Fat Ol' Sun I've ever heard! Thanks to whoever posted it and thanks to youtube for carrying it.

Sing to me... Sing to me... Sing to me... Fabulous...!!!

What a solo!!! This is great even by Dave's standards, what amazing feel this guy has. The way it builds and builds shows why some songs need to be heard live. Rick looks like he's loving it too, what an awesome pair.

IMHO, after years of experience, he realized that the composition of this solo was not complete or too simple during the Gdańsk tour preparation and decided to end almost 40 years later what he started in the 70's. During that live, I have the feeling that he was sharing with the crowd the culmination of one of his work.

When I think of David's guitar work (live especially) 3 songs come immediately to mind. Fat Old Sun (Gdansk & Royal Albert Hall), On the Turning Away & Comfortably Numb ( Both Momentary Lapse of Reason & Delicate Sound of Thunder). Just incredible !!
