I was on the 4th night, 5th night and 6th night. You are totally right. His guitar playing grew in confidence every single night, and the 6th was special. I genuinely think he was fantastic on the 6th. His vocals on the 6th night were also great. Wouldn’t say that for the 4th and 5th. He does need a couple of shows at least to warm up.

I was there as well with my family, soaked from the rain but enjoyed a fantastic show with an amazing sound. From what I've seen it was a good choice picking tickets for the 6th night. We will never forget this night, so intimate and personal. The voice is a bit more fragile than before, but because of this, there is so much character in it, a song like Scattered is just pure goosebumps live. Especially live, it felt so authentic, personal and human, especially with the lyrics of the new songs. The venue in Rome was so special, it literally took us days to process this evening in its entity.

This is very likely going to be my only chance to see him live. I decided to go without expecting him to be at his peak. I got to see Waters twice already, during the '99 comeback tour, and in '05-'06. The 2nd time it was clear that Waters' voice wasn't good and he was almost for sure using a backing track. At that time, Gilmour still sounded very good, e.g. Live 8. Gilmour is close to 80, he's human like all of us, he's given a lot. When you follow an artist for such a long time (now close to 30 years) they become part of your lives, and your every day experience. My only regret is not being able to go with my brother (we live on opposite sides of the US). If one wants a note by note rendition of Floyd, with top musicians sounding at their peak, there are excellent tribute bands out there.

I got to go to the first Brighton rehearsal show - I've been a DG fan since seeing the Pink Floyd performance on the Live at Knebworth videos that came out in the early 90's I'd never managed to get tickets to any of his shows and had sort of resigned myself to not ever seeing him. I got really lucky and got two tickets. It was quite an emotional experience in a lot of respects, firstly seeing him finally - He'd already started by the time he'd started the first song and I'll be honest I was dumbstruck for a few seconds. So much so my girlfriend had to grab hold of my arm to drag me to our seats! Secondly, the Univibe he's using I'm pretty certain he got from one of my dearest friends who sadly died a few years ago. My old mate Ian was the guy who taught me a lot about guitar playing. He was a fantastic guitarist, and had a detailed knowledge of gear and very high standards of tone and playing, something he instilled in me. One day we were talking about Pink Floyd and he dug some paperwork out of a folder and showed me a receipt from Pink Floyd 1987 Ltd signed by Phil Taylor. . Phil had put an advert in Guitarist magazine in the early 90's for a clean fully working Univibe and my friend was using his, so he sold him it. A while later Ian said he'd called Pete Cornish to buy some leads and the two got chatting and Pete asked him where he was from. When Ian said the town in England he's from Pete mentioned Phil taylor had got DG's Univibe off of a bloke in Lincoln and they had to put it in the rack as there wasn't the room with the other pedals on top. They had to get a graphics company near Petes workshop to copy the Unvibe logo. So, there's a highly decent chance the Univibe David's been using the past few years used to belong to my old friend. When they played Breathe I definitely got the hairs o the back of my neck up. Thirdly my Dad died three years ago. We were both huge fans of Pink Floyd and the Division Bell was the album he really took to the band. It was very special when he did one of my dad's favourites, A Great Day For Freedom" I was thinking about Dad and Ian a lot during the gig. However, David was really showing his age vocal wise. I'm quite sure he's using a second 'Black Strat" that's detuned - I noticed one with the Black Cat logo or Hendrix strap. But even then, he was still struggling a decent amount hit notes. Also, on quite a few tunes he seemed to get lost when soloing. He royally got lost during Marooned and Comin Back To Life, when was a right shame for me as that's one of my fav's In fact I noticed he seemed to be fighting the Black Cat Strat a little as whenever he switched to one of the Gibsons, with the shorter scale length, the magic faultlessly was there. At the end of the day he is getting on, he even tripped over Guy Pratts upright bass after wandering over to kiss Romany when she first came on stage, and if that's the only time I do see him then I'm quite happy about it. I'm so glad I got to see him, and Bjorn I completely agree with what you're saying. A lot of these legends are at the point when the body doesn't do what the brain asks of it any more But, DG has left us a wonderful legacy of great music and performances.

Saw him last night at the royal albert, he was fantastic, utterly incredible for a man who is fast approaching 80. I will add though, his age is showing. His fingers want to hit the nuance and intricacies he’s known for, but they can’t. It felt like a good bye, farewell, thank you tour. Heart breaking but I’m so glad I went. Going to the show on Tuesday too, probably his last UK show ever. 😭

I saw him on his 3rd night in Rome and after the concert I was so happy and thrilled that I couldn't sleep until 4am. Possibly the best live show of my life. I think what made it really great was that it felt so real. I saw him in 2016 on the Rattle that Lock tour and after that show I had the strange feeling that it had been "too perfect", like if there was no way to tell if it was really him playing live. This time instead, him struggling with his voice and even with the guitar a bit, especially in the beginning, contributed even more to this feeling of reality. It was really him, almost in his eighties, giving out all that he had on stage. And technical issues too! The slide guitar didn't work immediately on High Hopes' solo, so he missed a few bars while Taylor was fixing it, but then when the guitar finally kicked in it felt even more powerful and thrilling! My personal favorite moment was The Great Gig in the Sky anyway, I found this new arrangement stunning!

I agree that it seemed that he didn't acknowledge his aging voice beforehand. However, having gone to the second to last show in Rome, he has addressed it. Sometimes he lowers the register, sometimes, he backing singers take over a high note. So it sounded fine to me. It's also about managing expectations. I don't expect to see a 35 year old David playing all the Floyd songs. But a almost 80 year old David focusing on his own tunes, but still enough Floyd in there. I also like a lot of his solo work, In Any Tongue is amazing. And being there at these venues live, you just can't beat those experiences and I think it's very much worth it. I'll be going to the States as well. I'm going all out, anticipating it might be his last outing and I want to squeeze every drop of experience out of it.

Bjorn, I think your comment on David improving as his tours progress is prophetic. The footage I’ve seen of the Royal Albert Hall is quite a leap from Rome, both in his playing and singing. But also I think the RAH is a special venue for David (Pulse and all that). It would not surprise me if a future DVD is from there, but who knows. When he shines, he really shines. I’ll take the mistakes. His humanlike playing is what makes him unique in a world full of emotionless technical wonderkids.

I went to see him on the 28th of September, which was actually the exact same show that Mustyguitar went to. The concert was absolutely fabulous. When Gilmour played Marooned, I completely lost it, because I love that song, and prior to this tour he only played live 3 times. I also really loved Sorrow, which aside from the musical perfection had a great light show. Otherwise, I was really happy with the amount of Division Bell songs performed on this tour, since that is my third favorite Floyd album. His new solo stuff was also amazing. I honestly wouldn’t have minded if he stuck with his decision when announcing the tour. His solo material is good enough and he is a great artist beyond just the guitarist of Pink Floyd. I definitely agree with what you said about the vocals. He should have tuned them down. But thankfully it wasn’t even close to the abysmal performance Ian Gillian gave when I saw Deep Purple live this year. That guy really needs to sing lower. Anyway, I am really glad I jumped at the chance to see my favorite musician live. I am only 23 years old, so this was my only chance.

I'm in the same place Bjorn on this. I saw him for the first time on the last tour. Luckily he was on great form the night I went. However, at his age this is inconsistent. He's 78 and actually, good on him for not miming or autotuning. His guitar playing remains powerful though. As he gets further into the tour, his singing is getting better. For those that have never experienced him live yet, they will leave the gig most likely awestruck. He remains an icon. ❤

I kind of wish he would have acknowledged some of the struggles, it would have made (me anyway) but maybe the audience not to feel so anxious, awaiting if he will hit that next high note "Ticking away.... Musicians like us can easily spot the errors he's made but on youtube these errors appear clearly, but man, on the live shows they can get obscured by the overall sound. In that senese I guess your decision to not attend is regrettable. You are bang-on as to why he was struggling on initial shows as he hadn't played for so long on stage and it would take quite a few shows to get back that confidence. Hi Bjorn! What's your take on the Australian Pink Floyd and the Brit Pink Floyd? Recently I noticed that in my country (Poland) there are already two tribute bands. Maybe you could do a video about Pink Floyd tribute bands? I've seen a lot of clips of "The Great Gig In The Sky" being performed and some of the singers sounded better in those tribute bands than I've heard Gilmour or Waters perform live. Of course, it is interesting that each singer interprets it differently. Huge respect to Eva Avila of the Brit Floyd who tried to stay as close to the original as possible. I think she does a great job. Of course, having seen Waters in 2002, 2007, 2011, 2013 and Gilmour in 2006 (Gdańsk) and 2017 (Wrocław) I don't feel like going to tribute bands much for the same reason you talk about in this video. I saw some great performances in the "original". I only saw Aussie Pink Floyd once in 2011 and the Brit Floyd in 2013 to check them out and I really enjoy them. But considering the last concert I saw (not counting Nick's band) was Waters in 2018, I don't feel like going to tribute bands anymore. I want the last memory to be of an original band member. Although I envy everyone who had the chance to see Gilmour this year. I secretly feel that this is not the end. I think he might get hungry for performing in front of people and throw in some dates for 2025. Cheers!

Maybe David should’ve done a ‘Meltdown’ concert-style show, with a more folky, acoustic sound. There would’ve been more flexibility in the arrangements then and Romany’s harp, guitar and voice could’ve come to the fore…

I’m on the fence. I’ve never seen him play, and this is likely his last tour. The two things holding me back are being afraid of being disappointed (being that I’m far more familiar with Pink Floyd than his solo work, plus some of the performances… which you can’t knock him too much, he’s pushing 80!). The other thing is, unfortunately, the cost of going to a show, which has gone up so much over the last few years (this is across the board; punk bands I saw a few years ago for $20 are now $60, playing in the same venues). What keeps me still considering going is what I said before: I’ve never seen him, and it’s likely his last tour. I’ll have to make a decision and live with it soon.

I agree 1000% with what Bjorn is saying. He is definitely struggling all around. I'm thinking maybe lowering the key a half or whole step might help a bit and detuning the guitars. But yes, he hasn't really acknowledged his struggles unfortunately. I'm going on the 29th to the Hollywood Bowl and all the clips I've seen have made me not have the highest expectations so at least I'm mentally prepared. And it's unfortunate not to hear Shine On. I would trade Marooned and Great Gig for that. You need Rick for Great Gig and obviously that can't happen. And I think he is playing Marooned to give his vocals a break.

Seen Floyd several times, don't feel the need to go. His solo albums are very middle of the road (I include the last few Gilmour Floyd albums as solo in all but name), no edge without Waters. They are pleasant enough but I really do have to be in the mood. As good a guitarist as he is, 2hrs of Gilmour would be far too boring for me personally. Although the last two Floyd tours without Waters were still wonderful. Solo Gilmour just doesn't hold my interest as much, that's just me though. Waters might divide people but his solo albums are far more inventive and interesting and that edge really makes the live experience just that bit more exciting. If I want to go to sleep, I put a Gilmour album on.

I opted not to go too Bjorn. I've seen David four times with Floyd and five times performing solo. Like you he's my favourite musician but I will concede by far my least favourite time seeing him was last on the Rattle That Lock tour at the Royal Albert Hall and, I'm definitely not alone here, I think it is a terrible venue. Of course the building is gorgeous and its so iconic and all that.... I've even played there myself, hell I'm even in their accident book! I gave first aid to a girl also performing who had cut her head. But reviews of its sound and views are so often "mixed" and has had this reputation for decades. So my heart sank when I saw RHA only listed plus I winced and balked at the £230 price tag when the tour was announced and, sure I can afford it, but I can't justify it. Not even for David. My final point - and please anyone reading just take this as you wish to - is I don't think David can beat any of the other magical times I have been lucky to see him, especially with Floyd at London' Hyde Park at Live8, so I'd be pleased if someone who has never heard Comfortably Numb played live before gets to experience it instead.

BTW, Bjørn, how did you manage to see Live 8? I thought the ticket raffle was reserved to British residents...I considered travelling anyway and trying to see if one could get in, but I was too shy at the time (I was 22 back then) to take such a decision...it would hurt a bit knowing it would have been possible 😂

We we're just incredibly lucky. We came from Oslo just to be there and the whole of London was just crazy. We spent the whole day sitting in the outskirts of Hyde Park listening to the show. Right before Floyd went on, which was late, they started to open the gates, probably to prepare for 250k people to get out of there and we ran our asses of and ended up right infront of the stage.

I just saw Metallica two months ago for $60 which was reasonable in a stadium. Night two of the M72 Boston takeover. The show was incredible and they were playing excellent. I watched footage of David's current tour and the band has no fire or passion. I miss Steve Distanislao (he was always smiling at the drums), Joao Mello's saxophone is missed, I even miss Jon Carin despite the fallout. The new band is just bland sans Greg Phillinganes. I think Rattle That Lock should have been the swan song.

I appreciate your honest and respectful take. Having seen Roger Waters The Wall in 2010(where I feel I got the ultimate Pink Floyd experience, and note-for-note recreation by the guitarists) I have also come to the conclusion that I will skip the LA show I was gonna go see. It really hurts cuz it was one the few things I was looking forward to doing this year. I was also really hyped on the build up of the new album's release and I actually think the new album is amazing. I don't think a lot of the new songs sound great live. And for wanting nothing to with Pink Floyd anymore , he sure is playing a lot of it, and mostly the songs nobody cares about because of some feud with Roger(and sounds hollow without Richard Wright) I also don't like how loosely he plays the solos...hits a few notes and jams off of 80% of it. I literally could go just to hear the last Comfortably Numb solo, but it sounds nothing like the album. And I also agree that the tour is a cash grab for Romany and Paulie and Romany really comes off like she's riding David's coattails. It's nepotism, and she gets on my nerves tbh.
