Both legends in my mind. I met David at one of MK concerts a few years ago, so I think they have mutual respect for each other’s work. I’d love to see them do an album together
Frankie four Fingers was that at the Royal Albert Hall in May 2008? I remember being seated next to a man and saying to myself : « Dammit, that guy looks very much like David Gilmour!! »
Addicted to both here. MK is very quick and clean, a little more on the pop music side, with great story telling lyrics. DG is the master of emotion from his guitar, a little darker in the minor registers, and very emotional and gritty lyrics to go with it. I was privileged to grow up with both, but only saw dire straits once in 1985 I think. Both are amazing!
In my opinion Mark Knopfler guitar solo on Brothers in arms (Brothers In Arms Wembley (1988)) and David Gilmor Comfortably numb are the two greatest guitar soloes of all time
I love them both and they really are head and shoulders above the rest of the field......but if I had to pick I would say mark knopfler........no one creates such a beautiful and unique sound from a guitar and his guitar playing is much more versatile...from acoustic to country from blues to rock....he’s Genius
I always think knopfler plays with direction kind of takes you thru different stages in the song as opossed to gilmour and whoever sort of goes over the same sort of vibe throuout the song, telegraph road is like in 4 parts the beggining, then the little calm guitar bit in the 2nd phase followed by the build up in the 3rd phase then the explosive finish with the solo guitar drumming ending is a classic example of just that, like them both and this little performance doesn't do knopfler any justice but he is from another level of guatar picking absolute genius 👴🏻 🎸
Between the both of them they've produced the best guitar solos of all time. From the first note played you know who it is playing both totally amazing ❤
They are both Masters with the ability to soar and take everyone with them. Just look at the other guys, right at the top of their game! Both perfect in their own right.
@@MultiRapo I'm not saying DG isn't a great guitar player I'm saying he's not as good as MK fact. Secondly I can only just play with my cock let alone a guitar haha. I did.t mean to upset you chief ...
I love both of them , both have tremendous feel and special techniques of their own, you automatically know who's playing when you hear them. Personally I like Gilmour better, really because I prefer Pink Floyd and their brand to Dire Straits, but I have mega respect for both.
yeah, i couldnt be a judge in a comp between these guys. undoubtedly the two best stringers on earth. both masters, both genius' and both magical in result.
Gilmour played heavey metal i Nile song , blues for example Spell on you , he played Jazz in Woman in yellow dress . Mysterious soloes like echoes . Common .
Both absolute legends, but I don't think they can be directly compared. Pink Floyd and Dire Straits are completely different, but are defined by the lead guitarist. That said both are brilliant. I discovered Pink Floyd in 1972 with Meddle and then of course, Dark Side of the Moon. They were both I guess concept albums. I became aware of Dire Straits in 1979 with Sultans of Swing. But can't believe they never had a number one single! But number one albums is a different matter! Brothers in Arms is a classic.
Keep in mind that in this video DG is 60 yrs and MK is 47. Knopfler at 60 was a quieter guitarist than DG. I love them both but I think Gilmour remains in full force as a “guitar god” while Knopfler has softened that side.
Take the best performance of knopfler and the best of Gilmour.. knopfler Is more difficult to play with guitar. Has got more tecnique and minus effects on guitar... But it's my opinion..
For comparision better is Telegraph road and Once upon a time in the west from Alchemy album - Knopfler on guitar is way better / can play any styles - blues , country , rock with own touch )
MK : Certainly one of the greatest guitarists of all time ! No dispute possible ! MK is the best and in addition, he has composed the greatest pop rock songs of the last 50 years.
Mark Knopfler has a unique style with a incredible technical and cultural background. He his totally different compared to all great guitarists. Mark don't need of numerous special effects for guitar because his sound is in his fingers. His fingerpicking with the right hand is more expressive and distinctive and the natural agility with the left hand (speed, slow, bend, vibrato ecc.) makes his style complete and rich of dynamic, shades and flexibility. I love David but Mark has the divine touch.
Four notes on guitar... You can hear he's Clapton... Three notes on guitar.. you can hear he's Santana .. Two notes on guitar... You can hear he's Gilmour.. But for knopfler you need only one. And that's all
Nobody comes close to MK. His story telling is pure poetry and his guitar playing is another level to anyone else. DG has played some of the greatest guitar solos of all time without a doubt but to compare him with MK is unfair.
Yeah it's an impossible choice to make. MK's "Tunnel of Love" from Wembley Live in 85 is sublime though. Been listening to it since 85 and it still blows me away today. As for DG? The list of his amazung guitar work is endless
As a guitar player of over 30 years, Glenn Tipton from Judas Priest was my Idol. I imagine a world where these 2 guys get on a stage and just jam. I would love to hear either of thrir interpretations of Beyond the Realms of Death. David is so soulful but Mark is so instinctual and clean. Glenn now has Parkinsons and can no longer play the more sophisticated solo's. Enjoy these 2 legends of guitar. They will be gone before you know it. Until then, we still have Glenn coming out for a few slower songs like Breaking the Law! So happy to be 50 and grew up with true musicianship that these 3 have given us.
Verdaderos iconos.
