Hi dear people, Azekah which is also known as Tel Zakariya is an ancient place in the Judean hills or range that guards the upper reaches of Elah Valley. Azekah dates back to the Canaanite period.
Azekah means Strength of Walls
In the Bible, Azekah is said to be one of the places where Amorite Kings were defeated by Joshua and their army destroyed by a hailstorm {Joshua 10:10 -11} after defeating the Amorites it was given to the tribe of Judah.
1 Samuel 17 talks how during Saul reign, the Philistines massed their forces between Sokho and Azekah making Goliath their champion.
Azekah during Rehoboam time was a fortified city.
On the top of the hill at Azekah there is a good lookout view of Elah Valley.
Elah Valley is a long, shallow valley in Israel and West Bank that is described in the Old Testament as the place where the Israelites encamped when David fought Goliath {1 Samuel 17:2-19
