In this twenty-third installment of our quarterly series, Philosophers in the Midst of History, I discuss the life, thought, and influence of the modern philosopher, literary essayist, and historian, David Hume. We look at his situation in the culture of Great Britain and Scotland of his time, his philosophical ideas, and the influence that he had from the late 18th century onward.
