David Kelley is a political philosopher, author, and the founder and executive director of The Atlas Society (originally founded as the Institute of Objectivist Studies in 1990). In this video from a 1991 conference of the International Society of Individual Liberty, Kelley talks about the Objectivist movement at large during the life and following the death of Ayn Rand. Kelley also recounts his decision to establish the Institute of Objectivist Studies and gives his own outlook on the future of the Objectivist movement.

Mr. David Kelley: Thank you so very much for such a beautifully reasoned argument about the state of Objectivism. Extremely informative and engaging, and optimistic

For myself "courage" has nothing to do with it. Largely, one must start with explaining why "selfishness" isn't limited to a horrid narcissism, why altruism isn't benevolence, why life isn't zero sum and why others teaching all transactions ARE zero sum is a means controlling others. And that's just a preamble. Talking reason to collectivists is almost, but not entirely, futile.

"Fact and Value" by Peikoff really clarifies what is wrong with this guy and why he is a wrong person to learn from about objectivism.

You are advising to read two authors, that are compleately discredited in my view. pinker is even worse than kelly when it comes to philosophy~ Still don't see a challenge to arguments presented in "fact and value".

You're confusing him with Yaron Brook, president of ARI. He used voiceovers in his videos.

His rate of speech has slowed considerably since then.

That's not exactly an argument now is it.

So Ayn Rand will be forgotten?

Objectivist philosophy is the basis for all science and technology, without which you'd not be typing on a computer but shitting in a hole. Rand's major contribution was in the field of ethics, which is as important to philosophy as Darwin's theories are in the fields of biology/sociology/psychology. You can't survive without her philosophy, which is how fundamentally important it is.

No, I'm really not-- /watch?v=NJgjtPmGHdM He shouldn't worry too much though, I had the same problem when I was in kindergarten and was able to overcome it. Also, yes--it was an argument. You provided me with word soup that had nothing to do with anything I'd said (aside from perhaps failing to bother with reading the comment to which I was responding, thus not understanding the context and failing to add anything to discuss...yes, RWOT--not what we were discussing).

I was pointing out that you jumped to listing ARI affiliates (again). It really makes it seem as though you're incapable of thinking outside the official Randian line. Also, I know Rand (and her minions) have written much non-fiction; what has that to do with anything? AS is still central to Randianism--if you can find a quote from one of those listed stating that AS has less to do with the OBJ Movement than, make it really easy, any other work--you might have some convoluted point to make.

Someone more intelligent than you would have known that the objectivism that is the basis for science and technology isn't the philosophy known as Objectivism, but rather it's the physically existent that falls within the purview of the physical sciences.

"I have an honest interest in her work and I maintain intellectual honesty when I engage with it" Hahahaha! Oh man. This is comedy gold. You can't imagine how hard I'm laughing at your freak show comments. The only reason I keep responding is because you're making me laugh. Oh man. (Wipes tears from eyes). LOL!

You're good comedy man! Your histrionics and twisted mentality are a sight to behold. I have my doubts of your sanity though. You seem a tad unhinged.

No. But you did make an utter fool of yourself and cement your troll status.

I'm sure that all of those listed have absolutely no regard for Atlas Shrugged. Also, I'm extremely impressed that you can name ARI affiliates--that's so great. You sound like a Scientologist: "Well, there's Dianetics and then blah blah blah" All you can offer is ad homs and nonsense--you can't critically engage Rand's work. Also, I'm not a troll--I'm not trying to elicit emotive responses from you. Quite the contrary, I find your vitriolic nonsense pathetic and frustrating.

I'm really sorry that you cannot grow intellectually and instead choose to be willfully stunted by pulp fiction nonsense. It's really sad.

Hahaha! I get such a laugh at your ridiculous, stupid comments. Give me another laugh. Tell me what in the world did ARI affiliation have to do with anything there, as far as the point that was being made? Which was simply to list authors and literature that is non-fictional. LOL!
