@Colleen Stockfleth Yes EVH is a legend same as DLR. I would not want to hear DLR sing now if you paid me - because he cannot sing now. But that does not erase what he did and THAT makes him a legend to ME. EVH cannot play now but he still lives on as a legend. You yourself will not be able do the things you once did and imagine you would not like to be judged for what you cannot do in your later even final hours. He's lived a life most of us have not and made some brilliant music. That's how I like to remember people and not relish in their demise.
This guy is incredibly intelligent and articulate. He could lecture in colleges. An inspiration to us all. Personality. Front man. Songwriter. Medic. Raconteur. Icon. Legend.
@@davidhadley370 I think that DLR is an entertainer more than a singer, great vocals is what Michael Anthony was there for as well as playing bass. Dave's job was to lead the charge and present a visual presence while Edward did his thing on guitar and Alex kept them together on drums. As far as lyrics go I think Roth's are more rock n roll than Hagar's, though their standards were similar. Sammy had the better voice but was not as visual as David, despite the fact he gave everything in concert. Opinions are divided over VH 1 and 2 but I think they're both great with something to offer. It's okay to like both.
Dude is one of the best showmen ever. He gave us what we wanted and left us wanting more. He’s not a dumb rocker, every time I see him in an interview, I am amazed how intelligent he is.
I saw David Lee Roth on his Yankee Rose tour and it was truly a sight to behold. He had assembled a super group, Steve Vai, Greg Bissonette, Billy Sheehan. They were absolutely awesome. I will never forget those times back in the mid to late 80's. He is a legend.
I saw it too it was great was in the way back section he jumped out of a box onto a small stage just for us I’ll never forget it for that I’ll always love him he was so close to us
I knew a guy who met Dave at a climbing wall. Dave was playing in town, and decided to visit the local climbing wall. The guy said Dave was a really friendly and positive guy, and took time to give advice and encouragement to other climbers. Apparently he was very quiet and reserved as well.
Saw Van Halen in concert before they were popular. They were opening for Black Sabbath in Wuerzburg, Germany and they put on a fantastic show. David Lee Roth not only put on a high energy performance, he interacted with the crowd telling jokes and just engaging people with banter. Very much the showman.
Wow, good you seized that opportunity Will, it makes for great memories! I used to live in Germany and I cannot believe how many good shows i let go by because I thought I can see them any time... Now I have to watch RU-vid ;)
oldrocker1216 You got me on the name of the hall...too long ago and I was a bit whacked on the hash. But you are right about the energy levels. BS acted like they were waiting for a bus and Ozzie just looked fat and bored...until people started screaming for VH to come back out. BS got serious after that and put on a great show. Great night all the way around but VH was the best. Don't you feel sorry for the kids of today? Bieber and Taylor Swift...or Kanye?
SkylineToTheSeaAndMe I actually stole it , I think it should have been spelled with two N's in the middle but WTF ? It's part of a lyric in a DP song , "Knocking At Your Back Door" . I couldn't believe it wasn't taken when I snagged it . .
I think his bucket list is to experience every aspect of life with no regrets. I worked on a ambulance for ten years, having DLR as a partner would have been to crazy, intimidating. I think his IQ is off the charts. Kinda hard to not like this guy.
As fun, superficial and extravagant that DLR looks, he is a very worldly person, he embrace many cultures and enrich his life by that, he is way more cultured and open than most artists and people.
If there's anyone in rock n roll that deserves to be called a legend, it's Dave in my opinion. This guy has always been fascinating to me and gets more that way every time I hear him speak.
He is the quintessential rock icon... and he literally has an IQ that is on a genius scale... speaks three languages fluently and is a history genius... the man could have been a brain surgeon but thankfully gave his life to rock and roll !!!
David Lee Roth is such a musical icon. He was larger than life in his rock star beginnings and was and is unapologetic of his path. I Love how he has pursued his dream while staying true to his roots.
David Lee Roth is truly one of a kind and unique.. A man who has lived life to its fullest... The ultimate lead singer and show man....It would be hard to harness all of his talents because it's so spontaneous and bursting forward... He is super intelligent
Probably the best rock interview I've ever seen. The interviewer is smart, down to earth and asks good questions. And I never knew all these different sides of Dave.
You can tell by listening to Roth that he has a genius level I Q (which I am sure he got from his father). Roth is multifaceted, observant, well-read and high octane.
@@jamesstevenson7725 I work, in software development, with a lot of high IQ people and being an arsehole seems to go with the territory of having a high IQ.
@@alhemmings8554 not everyone with a high IQ is disagreeable. I am gifted with an average IQ however I have definitely noticed something of a correlation with being a jerk and having a high IQ, of course I am simply incapable of being a jerk ;)
David Lee Roth is the best living front man of our time. Mad love for you sir!! Saw you in 2012 with VH. Unbelievable that folks "our age" can do what you do!!
Absolutely loved my only Van Halen concert in 1984 with Dave as the front man. You couldn't ask for a better rock entertainer. Watching Eddie play was absolutely mesmerizing, the best. I am grateful that it was David Lee Roth at the helm because he was so very talented. And listening to this interview was enjoyable. Needless to say he's very intelligent, definitely knows what to say and articulates on every subject matter.
DLR+EVH produced a completely new concept. I saw them open for Black Sabbath in '78, and 20 times since. It was like a spaceship landed. We were slack jawed at the sights & that amazing sound. I instantly knew what fans experienced seeing Jimi or the Beatles for the first time. It's a shame that younger fans haven't experienced this.
One of the better DLR interviews I've seen. He's hard to interview usually, based on all I've seen. This was a good one. Good questions too. I met Dave in '03. He's not easy to keep up with. Truly a legendary rock star with his own brand. Always imitated, never duplicated...love you most, Dave!
That was an amazing interview. I learned so much more about this very funny and insightful man. I was always a fan of the band VH and now I am a fan of Mr. David Lee Roth.
+richard kusi-menkah If you could have all the women you ever wanted why would you settle down with one and ruin your life with a relationship!! He may have a few kids around tho
+SaxyDan54 next time block him after u dismiss..its best to ignore the DLR haters...i usually tell them, HE'S WORLD FAMOUS, VERY RICH, and you're a NOBODY...JUST A JEALOUS GUY WHO WAS NEVER A GORGEOUS SEX GOD ROCK LEGEND LIKE HIM...IGNORE TH INSULTS ... ;))
I have always liked this guy - he's always been himself and an open book. He's genuine - I do not pick between Eddie or David - I like them both and they both have had ups and downs. I will say David is my favorite - he has always been himself and an open book - he is so real - love it!
Jeff Catenacci first, i said "do not pick between" meaning professionally then I said "my favorite" meaning as a person. I'm so sorry your brain was unable to discern this from my comments - perhaps your comment is more applicable to yourself. “You want to remember that while you're judging the book, the book is also judging you.” Stephen King
Jeff Catenacci *sigh* not really worth a reply - you have described your numerous posts to a Tee - grow up and find a new post. If you have nothing intelligent to say - as above - get off post and find another. Perhaps this may be a little beyond your brain .....but let's try shall we.....
As fascinating, intelligent and insightful as ever. What a gift to Rock and Roll. To life, actually..... Stay healthy David, needed more than ever right now.
If you like listening to Dave talk, then you must read his book, Crazy From The Heat. One of the greatest rock bios I've ever read. He's easily the most worldly (and wordy) rock star in history. Just stellar, as Dave himself would say.
Great interview from both sides....hers and his. Thanks for the entertainment over all the years Dave. You're love of life is incredible and infectious!
I would love the opportunity to sit down and just have a conversation like this with Dave. His insight and approach to things is just wonderful. He's just a smart man with the great gift of gab.
I just can't understand people saying he is not there he is intelligent perseptive and charismatic, That is his personality, fun to watch and listen to
it is easy to criticize Dave because he really puts himself out there, granted he's a ham, but that's who he is and he embraces it and one of the world's all-time greatest rock bands has him (and others) to thank for it. Sometimes you just gotta take the cheese with the bread.
Hey I heard Diamond Dave singing R&B on some tunes here on RU-vid, and after that; total & utter RESPECT! I still think he's under appreciated, to me Dave was like a Michael Jackson of Rock n Roll, And a Baryshnikov of dancing...my question is does this cat ever sleep? Very inspiring genius!
What a genuinely funny and thoughtful guy. The interesting thing for me was how he remembers some unusual details - 'it was a Tuesday' .. I actually think he remembers some of that stuff. He's a very detail oriented guy!
"Revealed" aint no fool... Send the most stunning interviewer in the building (maybe the city for that matter) and Dave will spring into Diamond Dave mode with all the bells and whistles! Go get em' Dave!
It's something how there always seems to be somebody, somewhere knocking Dave, but it's only just because he's not necessarily their kind of guy. Well, so what, you can't please everybody. I like the dude. He's a freakin' firecracker, and we love him for it. He's a true showman.
I never was a fan but after listening to him I bet he’s a lot of fun to hang out with. Can you imagine the stories he has? Best of luck to you as we all get older......
Absolutely the most energetic front man with charisma. No doubt he always has been an individual with the classic influences. He always has respected the dancer. Whats old? Ageless some just are
Diamond Dave has always been at the top of my fantasy dinner guest list. He's still the coolest....and we're all gettin' older, so enough with the he's too old crap.
1:20 "i wanna work on an oil rig in Oklahoma"... lol.. you need coast line for that one! Still very smart witted and intelligent considering. Im impressed with this interview.
My uncle "DD" spent 22 years with Warner Bros. during the late 60's,70's, & 80's.He has an entire room dedicated to pictures and autographs of all the entertainers that he worked with during those times. He always said Dave was as intelligent and giving as anyone he spent time with. He said Dave expected you be ready to put on a show at antime...Dave thought that if you were a public entertainer (any discipline) you needed to entertain 100% of the time.He helped out A LOT of people that needed it in the Pasadena community during the early to mid 80's. If you listen...he's a genius.
David Lee Roth as a paramedic? "Ain't talking 'bout blood" "Your blood is rotten to the core" "Ain't talking 'bout blood" "Like I told you before" "I been to the edge" "And there I stood and looked down" "You know I helped a lot of patients there, baby" "Got no time to mess around" OR "Nobody patrols these streets but ME" "The paramedic punk!" OR "I'm your first aid man" "Stop me when I'm passing by" "All my treatments are guaranteed to satisfy"
