well, for comical purposes, the writers apparently wanted to use the "blank" reference so that's why they mentioned a tombstone.

It is a joke people. I know most folks don't remember but once David Letterman used to be a funny guy.

That kissing fool Richard Dawson caused The late great Gene Rayburn's death,he was funny as hell on The Match Game 7x.

I thought that was funny. Making a joke about someone who died is a risk. That was more of a humourous tribute. (yes I am Canadian)
