Of all of the crazy stunts David Letterman pulled off on his show, I think this has to be his crowning achievement. Bryant Gumbel held a grudge against Dave for a long time after this.

He was truly a genius! He was the funniest thing to hit television in my entire life. As a teen, I remember when he first showed up on TV with his morning show and then later with his late night show, feeling like I was really cool because I was a viewer, I was one of the cool kids because I watched Dave.

This could be why Dave didn't get the spot that Johnny Carson left instead Jay Leno go it. Maybe NBC prez got tired of Dave's crazy stunts who knows but that's my thought.

and ANOTHER THING.......if dave was so worried about moving up an hour, he shouldn't have named his show the late show! it was an EARLY show. we all know it. and HE knows it! don't disrespect the memory of Late Night by trying to pass his CBS show as a Late Show. late show my a$$!
