I'm not him but I have moments where I'm at his level of serenity. I have to learn how to not instantly get yanked out of that by the reactions of people who accuse me of being smug or arrogant when I'm anything but I have to find a way through this way

@@greg1mcintosh844 Once you realize how little control you actually have of all the people and things happening around you, and you accept that, it's very freeing. You don't even have to do meditation to accomplish this, although it helps. You just have to be mindful and remind yourself of it. When I find myself getting mad about what someone thinks or does, I think about how it affects me, and when I realize it usually doesn't, the anger fades. Then I try to figure out why something angered me. Once you get used to it, it becomes easier and easier to do without trying so hard, and you begin to feel the serenity and freedom.

Same peak, different flags. we all have different interpretations of the experience, after all, all empirical experience is subjective. also, this experience is certainly spiritualistic, but not religious in any way. I'm an atheist and I do not find it necessary to bring anything mystical or metaphysical into the picture, besides the counciousness field, which can itself be an emergente phenomena from quantum information/entropy/information/Energy/chaos/complexity/density of something that multiplies all those. my only objection to TM's interpretation of it, is believing negative things go away and positive things come, by magical means. it doesn't, its extremely complex, often unconcious, but it's our brain working, on interpteting people, changing itself and evolving and on controlling our actions that actually make stuff happen in the world. we need to do stuff, it acts through us, after all. we need to talk, discuss and act. i believe at least some religions are an honest attempt of acting in sharing these ideas, but it's primitive and flawed, and most importantly, Is arrogant. to be exact: by believing with blind faith without providing the experience to everyone, believing their interpretation is 100% perfect and absolute and that everyone else is wrong. Also, I've experienced it at least thrice, during a suicidal crisis in which I got really close to doing it, through hypomania(which startled me into "psychotic" mania) twice, and countless times through my almost weekly religious/ritualistic use of Ayahuasca. so I hope i get it, but It does seem to get clearer with each subsequent instance of it, so I have no doubt that my own interpretation is still primitive

Have you done it and been trained by a Certified TM Instructor? If not, then you don't know what you're talking about, you're just another naysayer with an axe to grind. I've done many forms of meditation over the years and was completely surprised at the effects of even my first TM meditation practice WITH my teacher. It has the some of the components that you mentioned but not the same because what you're saying keeps one in the mind. TM is fundamentally different so if you don't know first hand then why the need to post? I love it and though simple, it is complex.

One can make an observation that something simple & easy to do that is beneficial to all humans shouldn't cost anything, without the implication that they're going to go ahead and do it themselves. Meditation classes in one's local area are _vastly_ cheaper, even over weeks or months time, and teach basically the same thing. The end product of regular old meditation and the 'proper' _Transcendental Meditation_ is the same thing. It's relatively easy to begin meditating; what's difficult is keeping at it. Having a guide is helpful for the simple reason they keep the newbie on track and diminish frustrations as they arise. It's not that people can't learn to meditate on their own; some can. But having a guide when just starting out makes the process go more smoothly. It makes sense that you pay the guide for their time, but the actual information isn't some big secret. All these people in the TM group have done is trademarked some information that's been free for thousands of years, as if they came up with the idea themselves. They're not up-front about it. Understandably, seminars, retreats or whatever cost money to run, but the amount they charge has a rather scummy feel about it. You get a couple days and a made-up word, and some bullshit about feeling like you now belong to an elite group.

Is owning a car a benefit? How much does that cost?

Then maybe you should work for free.

@@TenTenJ they're talking about what TM charges to be taught, or used to charge. Like many human endeavours, it got hijacked by greed. The founder went and lived in some weird castle in the Netherlands or somewhere and just kept milking more money. Hundreds of millions. Lynch was misled by a charlatan, but it doesn't mean meditation doesn't work and you don't need to pay $5k for some bullshit secret word to do it. Just sit and focus on nothing but your breath and your feelings, and every time you realise you got distracted, start again - that's all you need.

@@mp9810 David was never "hijacked" by anything or anyone. His whole foundations is about making TM affordable for everyone. Everyone has to live in this world under the paradigm of money and if folks who can afford to pay up to a thousand (which is the highest price now) that goes a long way to fund those who can not. Like me. And as far as calling out the Maharishi as a charleton tells me you have never bothered to read any of his books or have any understanding of what he had hoped to give to the world. The smear campaign against him mostly comes from elitist in India who are angered because he was not of the correct cast to be a teacher. TM is and has always as far as I know been a non-profit and most of the luxuries like the Rolls Royce and estate he lived on was provided by wealthy devotes.

You can watch numerous interviews with former ranking members of the "religion" or cult-like side of TM. Most of them westerners and not linked to the Indian groups you mention. I've done plenty of digging. The simple fact of how he tried to maintain control and moved overseas and retreated into his weird compound says all we ever need to know. Not to mention the rape accusations.

Yeah well it varies David has given lots of scholarships for war vets and abuse victims etc. If you are going on a retreat that's like a vacation it costs money and in person instructors cost money. You can learn and meditate at home if you want David isn't stopping you.

no, that's your inner universe. even if the external universe doesn't exist, we must act as if it were. believing you're the only thing real isn't good for the ego and will drive you crazy. remember to also ground yourself to actually function in society, because we, whilst limited to our brains/human subjective experience, need to have people around us, to be connected to other expressions of counciousness, to hear contradictory ideas and specially cognitively dissonant ones. we are slaves to our brain, and it lies quite a lot. if you didn't learn that the brain lies with TM, id suggest you try psychedelics, of which I suggest Ayahuasca. or actually studying classical philosophy and modern neurology, specially regarding the brain's filter, and how it simulates A reality and projects it through a hallucination so we can experience subjective experiences such as being localized in a 3d space, feeling gravity through a sense of balance, temperature, touch, tastes, smells, sounds, and most importantly, see. never trust your own brain without a healthy dose of skepticism. the ego takes over and lies to you, he wants you to believe in all this, because we need to. nirvana is great, but I you dedicate your life to it, you forget to live. I do think that's relevant to your case as well, because living is, after all, the meaning of life. limited human brains gives us the blessing of the unknown, of a subjective experience, of feelings and colors, notes, the sharpness of a benign pain that alerts us of a intestinal state of imbalance of microorganisms which then creates totally unconciously the craving for a certain type of food. none of the blessings of life would be possible with an objective perspective of reality itself, being god is, I imagine, quite boring. we need to accept our human nature and enjoy it while we can, also be in touch with nirvana, but remember to live bc after we die we get what comes after Nirvana: a "Foo Fighters" of enlightenment of you will, as death reunites us with the rest of the true universe and let's us merge back into the cosmic counciousness. besides completely obliterating the ego, forever. along with everything about it, memories and all, or at least it's correlation to the sense of self. One day, there really won't be anything else besides you, so don't waste your life thinking that, let the world of illusions entertain you! the world is magic, why wouldn't we let ourselves be fascinated by it? living life as if it was a dream isn't the right attitude, even if it is a correct statement after all.

David martinez Money is literally the greatest invention of mankind. Nothing has unlocked as much human potential (without currency, barter is required to exchange value, which is hugely inefficient as it requires a double coincidence of want - that is, if you want a chicken and all you have are apples, you have to not only find someone with a chicken, but someone who has a chicken AND happens to want apples). What you probably mean to say is that you dislike greed. But greed predates money. Money just makes transactions much smoother, making things like violence and starvation less likely.

Klaus Geltl Not sure what you're getting at, but I stand by my comment -- TM is nothing special, and is nothing better than meditation techniques one might learn for free. I say that as someone who practiced TM for many years, and has since moved on to more serious study of meditation.

Anyone who charges anything for meditation is a scam artist, esp. 2,500. Meditation can easily be self taught, you need the disciple though, which I guess the people paying thousands of dollars don't have and just want a quick "mind fix".
