This is wonderful. It might be hard for people today to understand how deep into our hearts and minds reggae penetrated in those halcyon days, but this lovely documentary is a testament to that. Big up to the great David Rodigan and to the other musical pioneers and teachers, black and white, memorialized here.

Yep met Rodigan when djing the same dance in Tenerife...a gentleman an Icon...its not as if he hasnt been in the REAL trenches of dancehall clashes amongst real badman and he held his ground. Nuff respect

For me there is no Rodigan without the late great Sir Tony Williams who everybody seems to have forgotten and the first reggae Dj Sir Steve Barnard. Its like one giant passes away and the other giant takes all the glory. To me they are all giants who mean my life listening to reggae music the world to me.

What about Mickey dread who rattigan used his shows to get his 1st gig on British radio

@@Higher_Sun_Highzak That point is very well made. Thank you sir. Reggae history must never be distorted.

@@Higher_Sun_Highzak So this man used the talent of og reggae radio entertainers to take a place (king of reggae, uk reggae godfather etc) that doesn't belong to him, and then stayed in the business like a representative figure of a foreign culture cause he's white. Would you agree with this synthesis?
@Higher_Sun_Highzak
@Higher_Sun_Highzak 6 месяцев назад
@@zenheadshot3742 yes that is quite a comprehensive synopsis of what the boy Rattigan did...not only did he exploit the talent of Mickey Dread radio shows, he also wormed his way into blues dances and sound system events (via people like Lloydie Coxsone) to get a feel of the culture. Then he began getting dub plates cut for him and at some stage tried to present himself on dance flyers as if he's a "sound man". The 1st artist to ever expose this coloniser was Papa Levi (Ram Jam Capitalism) as far as eye can recall. Check out that track. I have too much i could type here about i feelings towards Rattigan and his kind. Ises

Reggae also played an important role in children's Saturday morning TV. I remember the "Vita-lite" orange juice commercial using Desmond Dekker's "Israelite" hit. The hit single nearly got banned by the the British Board of Deputy of ".....", but was revoked by my girlfriend at-the-time father. Millie Small of the My boy Lollipop fame, lived a few blocks away from me in Pimlico. She was a good friend of the Sixties sensation Myna Bird Britain's first West African sex symbol - who lived in nearby Belgravia. Living nearby to her was Princess Margaret's former boyfriend Roddy Llewellyn who rented a room in a house which he shared with Moroccan and Jamaican house mates! The last time that I saw Millie was in about 1990. She was emptying her rubbish into a wheelie bin on St George's Drive. Those were the days!

I had the pleasure off doing a backing tune for rodigans reggae chart show in 92 at Kiss radio, it was pure luck that my wife’s best friend was rodigans producer, she was round our house I was just banging out some tunes & she said I like that tune, which was James Bond in ska , so we went up to kiss radio & recorded it , I couldn’t believe it, very lucky boy, I always turned into rodigans on capital radio back in the day his mixing & jingles was quality, what a inspiration 🎶🎵🥳👍😂

David you are great. But if I was you sir I would not work for BBC radio 2. Because you're show is only one hour. And you only do 12 shows a year. And you show is on at 11 the only reggae show on radio 2. But yet folk music gets 2 hours a week jazz music gets a 4 hours a week. Blues gets 2 hours a week. And country music gets 2 hours. But yet you only get 12 hours a year. The BBC love to keep reggae music down. Like chaka demus and pliers had a number one album in the national charts. And a number one hit single and a number 4 and a number 6. But yet the BBC did not play nothing from their follow-up album. Despicable BBC full of misinformation. Anyway sorry for waffling 🥱🇬🇧👍

@@Jack-fs2im No Jack. Your theory of an empty ship is FB nonsense for the RW populists. People were brought over from the Caribbean to help rebuild the UK after the war. Mainly doing jobs that Brits couldn't or wouldn't do. London Underground had recruitment offices on different islands hence a great deal of the old managers and supervisors were of Caribbean origin. Same went for nurses and midwife's. (my mother in law being one of them) No one turned their backs on any country. As for independence it was long over due. Perhaps you are another one with views that slavery was a good thing for the UK. Either way you can't moan about the UK colonising 20% of the globe then go on rattling about empty ships when people want to come to the mother country!
