Oh what skill it would have taken to applaud and keep smoothing shooting your video documentary including a quick look at the Amazing Gilbert Goldstien. Another option is to whistle your Props... like you're just someone in the crowd applauding in your own way yet keeping the lens on the subject ,but, with near mic sounds that could make for a loud audio of a whistle..so..you tone it down to blend into the others applause....a true art...backward sight is 20/20 ! hee hee AWESOME VIDEO...thesamc

Full disclosure: I don't play sax or any other instrument. Now, with all due respect to you and your sax skills, I'm sure there was rhyme & reason why the pads to his sax were glued this particular time rather than shellacked. But in the context of this lecture he didn't elaborate and no one bothered to ask. With as many playing years Dave has behind him, I'm sure his relationship with is horn is purely instinctual -- like a mother to her newborn, which is something I'd know a little about. ;)
guys come on, charlie parker and those cats were great, but that doesn't mean that artists today can't be "masters" as well. charlie parker was probably the greatest sax player who lived, but that doesn't make sanborn any worse. I personally dont like sanborn, but I still respect him as a great sax player
Has he never heard of rotating his reeds to get the optimum life out of his reeds. They do change from day to day so you need to have at least 8-12 reeds on hand for every situation.
Since it wasn't on Part 2, can someone tell me what he said he does when he finds a leaky pad, after "putting a little bit of water on it"? Very frustrating that it cut off right at that moment, then not anywhere to be found. Anyone know what he said after that? Thanks...
StevenCharlesJazz Water or any humidity will cause the pad to swell so most likely he was going to say he puts water on the pad so it will expand and the presses it down firmly for a few minutes so it will seal against the tone hole properly. Again I am just guessing but this is most likely. Also this process would not be a permanent solution but could get you by for the gig depending how long it lasts but when the pad dries out the leak will return!
I think it's safe to say that Dave is very particular about his set up; so Dave, why would you let someone install pads on your horn with hot glue? That's crazy... Now I understand that my playing isn't in the same world as Daves, nor is my schedule but I am also kind of fussy about my set up as well and would never take any of my horns to anyone other than my regular tech, Bill Singer NYC, Ive never found a tech as committed to detail as Bill, maybe Dave should give him a call next time.
I say this and it might not be very popular for saying this but the first second language everybody should learn is English and children need to begin learning it very early in prime school. Here in Iceland kids begin to learn English at 9 and Danish not until they are 12 years old. So translating this very easy English is just ridiculous!!!!!!!
