David Sedaris Has Lots of Pandemic Material But No One to Test It On 

I skipped one of my summer classes on a whim to attend a read aloud and book signing during David Sedaris’ “Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls” book tour. When I walked to the table to have him sign my books, I flashed him a smile and introduced myself, he greeted me warmly, told me my name is beautiful and asked me what I love most about college (I suppose my sorority jersey gave that away). He never rushed me and actively listened as I blabbed on to him about my becoming an instant fan after reading “I Like Guys” in American Lit. He smiled when I gushed about how many of my sorority sisters were hooked on his writing after I loaned them my copies of his books. He laughed out loud when I told him how my drunken read alouds of “Dinah the Christmas Whore” became a Christmas tradition for my family after my parents couldn’t stop laughing when I told them the title. When I left, I thanked him for sharing his stories with the world, we shook hands, but I didn’t ask for a picture bc I felt like I was being too chatty. Once I was at home, I opened the cover of my copy of “LEDWO”, and read “To R*+****, a Delta Zeta AND an enchantress!” If you ever have the chance to meet David Sedaris, please do! He’s the same genuine, charming, hilarious, clever guy he writes about in his stories. People always say “Never meet your heroes”, but I am so grateful that I ditched a lame summer night class to meet one of mine. 💖

Drew Barrymore is my new favorite human for loving David Sedaris as much as I do.

'Angry Merriment'...David Sedaris NAILED IT! And Drew is the perfect poster girl for it!

wow, just when I thought I couldn't love Drew any more! such a beautiful surprise to see David on here! he's been my favorite author since I was a teenager. I met him when I was 17 and I was so nervous and I told him so and he told me to slap him! I mean he INSISTED on it! Haha, he said "you can't be nervous around someone you've slapped!" So I obliged him and gave him the softest love tap! He gave me a bracelet, took my note, signed my book "you slapped me..damn you!" I will never forget that.

David Sedaris did well with Drew Barrymoores very out there personality. He embraced her personality and they seemed to enjoy one another. Kinda cool.

"Angry Merriment" - I can see the greeting card now. I LOVE David Sedaris!!! I had the privilege of seeing him in person a few years ago. He is an enjoyable original. Good choice of guests, Drew!

David is a legend! I’d cry and freak out too!

Am I the only one who views drew as pretentious and unhinged in this interview....

Ok, stop giving talk shows to celebrities, PLEASE!!!! She is an actress and it is clear she has NO idea how to react in a way that has any semblance of normalcy unless it's scripted. Also, actresses only talk about themselves and have no real interest in anyone else no matter how hard they act at it or it comes off disingenuous. She seems so fake. She turns it, awkwardly, into her own person diatribe several times because her whole life she has only related to people who ask what she thinks, feels, understands full stop. No sharing. No back and forth. So please let's have some actual interviewers getting some shows....
