We need more David Seymour's in Parliament, bring all races back under one unbrella, no division, one parliament and all New Zealanders get treated equally in all sectors. Maori MPs , plus the Green party , should listen to the majority of the New Zealand people . CONGRATULATIONS to for passing this bill , BACK to one Health system.

The Waitangi tribunal has morphed into a self perpetuating bureaucracy that is set on expanding and increasing its important. The Key government claimed all treaty grievances would be done by 2015 and the tribunal disbanded. If my memory is right when it was first started by the ruling party at the time it was only intended to operate for a couple of years and yet here we are what must be over 30 years later with them expanding their influence to areas never intended.

David Seymour is saying exactly what most people think and that is that the remit of the Waitangi Tribunal needs to be carefully examined and defined so that it is not used as a platform for all sorts of perceived Maori grievances.

Thank you David Seymour; finally some common sense. When people claim the newly created Maori Health Authority is somehow a treaty right then you know the whole thing is out of control. The Ardern govt created some very unrealistic expectations around Maori aspirations such as co-governance. This government now finds itself having to manage those expectations into something far more sensible and realistic

The tribunals running costs are over $1 million a year even when it hears nothing . So I imagine it’s a tribunal looking for a purpose and forever costs

The "Treaty settlements" were fully and finally settled through the courts in the 1940's. It was Palmer and the 1985 TOW amendment act that allowed the Waitangi tribunal to go back to 1840 again for a "second helping" of grievances.

Doing a great job David keep it up, I guess the Māori should get out of the mindset that their problems are entire New Zealand's problems but entire New Zealand's problems are not theirs..

😮 the fact that the unelected (key word) Tribunal is doing scope creep and appears to be inserting itself above the elected Govt (key phrase) is more worrying than simply the money it will waste. Veto rights over an elected Govt? 😮 That's the bigger picture and I would also suggest that the Tribunal is seeking to extend itself beyond its initial remit out of self interest - its own continued relevance and lifespan. It confirms the need for Act's principles bill. For the sake of our democracy, this politicised scope creep by the Tribunal MUST be stopped cold in its tracks!!!

I think this is the right thing to do. Nz does not have enough tax payers to pay for a separate health authority. If only Labour had of chosen to put that half a billion into grass roots maori health, what a dent that could have made.

Maori want absolute control over their Taonga - (noun) treasure, anything prized - applied to anything considered to be of value including socially or culturally valuable objects, resources, phenomenon, ideas and techniques - That could mean anything.. I would like to know what % of Maori blood does one have to have to consider themselves Maori? We also know that in about 100yrs, all Maori will be mainly of European decent. Jacinda had a firm goal in mind when she entered Parliament and she has been groomed very well by the WEF, so this all leads back to her for pushing the division agenda, not to mention bullying kiwis who didn't want the Fauci ouchy and what makes it even funnier is that here and her MP's were exempt from the jab.

NZ is a poor-ish country down the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. We can NOT afford to pay for the running of two useless government departments doing the same thing. As for the Waitangi Tribunal.!? All bureaucracies behave the same way, and that is its own survival, growth ,prestige, and expansion of its remit becomes more important than whatever it was put in place to do and that is the WT is today.

David just made the statement the media are not trusted by Kiwi's and are going broke ! so why dont the Government fix the state owned media ????? and return it to a balanced service for 'THE PUBLIC' isnt that more important to correct , before you spend more money on a Treaty 200 years old that is only written in English , the maori did not have a written language at the time of the treaty ( it was later transcribed into a made up VERSION ) by a missionary .

Settle Ngāpuhi claims... Hold a Referendum on New Zealand becoming a Republic... (Can still be a member of British Commonwealth if so desired)...Hopefully "Positive" Referendum and then ???? We must always be one people equal in all things. Dividing the funds for health serves no good purpose for Maori or the rest of NZ... all funds must be put into the one health pool for the benefit of all New Zealand citizens.
