This was one of the better efforts of The Bible Collection, my favorite of all the "David" movies. I have no idea how many times I've popped this in my DVD player over the years, . . . maybe 20? Leonard Nimoy's portrayal of Samuel was brilliant, though too short lived! The actor playing Jonathon gave such a nuanced performance, it was hard to take my eyes off him. I've never seen an actor who fits Saul's physical description in the Bible, handsome and head and shoulders taller than all others, but this actor's performance is so noteworthy, that can be forgiven. Does is sound like I'm a big fan of this production? I am! :-)
In the nation of Ancient Israel hurling stones with a sling was considered a deadly weapon. David was a marksman in using that type of weapon. He was courageous because as a shepherd he rescued his sheep from lions and bears according to the scriptures. David was only 12 Yrs old and he took down a giant that was 9.5 Ft tall. When David hurled that stone it went deep inside Goliath's forehead. God's Holy Spirit played an active role in that because the Philistines were God's enemies. Jesus Christ was a descendant of King David according to the scriptures.
Goliath laughs like " Really? You're joking." But David ends up taking him down with one stone. Not just a story of god being with him. It's a story of courage and telling yourself you can do it.
Actually David never had to tell himself that, nor did he act like that. The entire time he had complete confidence in Hod and knew God would use him to kill the Philistine.

His reply was he comes in the name of the Lord of hosts. The sling and Stone was what God used. God orchestrated that rock to go exactly where God wanted it. It was God that did it. If David wasn't willing to believe so much in his God and if he wasn't after the heart of God so passionately and if he didn't believe that by doing this people would know the power of God. Nothing would have been done. The moral of the story is we all have Giants in our life that overpower us. Whatever our weapons of warfare are they are Mighty to the pulling down of strongholds. All God needs is a willing servant. David believed and God honored that. David is one of my favorite stories. And my second is the Apostle Paul. The new release. A must-watch. God fights our battles we ourselves can do nothing without the power of God. If God be for us who can be against us. He also brought three or 4 other smooth stones because the giant had Brothers. According to the holy Quran, prophet David PBUH killed Goliath without much details but the overall story is similar to this movie. However there is clear reference to army and marching to a battle field. Now if I remember my history correctly David was a semite hebrew who struck down an indo-european Philistine by the name of Goliath some time around 1000 BC. He then eventually become the second king of the united Hebrew peoples. But soon after the Hebrews would divide into two separate Kingdoms.
@@IvanFromVr being tall is not the only qualifier to be a giant. Otherwise King Saul would be a giant and so would the Egyptian who was 7 feet tall and neither are called such, just like Goliath. Goliath was not a Nephilim as they were wiped from the face of the earth by the flood, never to return. Goliath was also not a Rephaim (giant), as they were wiped off the face off the earth while Moses was alive. At BEST, Goliath MIGHT have been a descendant of a Rephaim, but that also wouldn't make him one as none of the descendants of Rephaim mentioned in the Bible are called Rephaim themselves. At worst he was just a tall man. His height wasn't what mattered though. What did matter about Goliath however was the following: He was rich. He was an extremely skilled fighter who trained and fought since he was young. He was an enemy of the Israelites and God and blasphemed God.
This is kinda stupid, I believe Goliath in the story was decked out in armour of bronze or brass, he was wearing the best armour of the day and had a bloody great shield and a bloody great spear, and that’s ignoring the fact he was massive at 6’9 which was gigantic back then where everyone was in the middle or lower 5 foot range. So it was totally understandable that Goliath would be very confident in his odds, but in this, he’s not tall whatsoever and is completely bare when it comes to armour, so the Israelites literally could’ve ran up to him with spears and massacred him. Moreover being so poorly armoured, unless Goliath was literally a foetus like two minutes ago, he should’ve been damn well familiar with what slings can do to the human body.
I REALLY would appreciate it if all of the Biblical movies were actually biblical! Goliath was 18 ft tall, a rephiam. His sword was huge and it would have taken great strength to pick it up. And most of all, Hebrews didn't speak with a British accent
Uh, he was not 18 feet tall, nor was he a Rephiam. The last Rephiam was killed while Moses was alive and Goliath was either 9'9 or 6'9 depending on what text you read. And Goliath's sword was normal height since a youth like David and an old priest could carry it with ease.

I don't know what Bible you read that says he was at least 12 feet tall, but I have a feeling you are thinking of Og and somehow got Og confused with Goliath. Og's bed was 13 feet long. Making Og anywhere between 10-12 feet tall. Goliath however is debated to be between 6'9 - 9'9 depending on the text you read. Modern texts read six cubits and a span 9'9 and older texts read four cubits and a span 6'9. And in either case, Goliath has no relation to the Nephilim or the Rephiam.
The Bible says Goliath stood about 9 feet tall and David was actually a little kid when he faced him, some people say he was like 11 or 12 years old at the time, were talking like maybe a scrawny little guy compared to Goliath
