In a bombshell announcement, Olympic Gold Medalist and Penn State legend David Taylor was named the new head coach of Oklahoma State. Nick Kosko breaks it down. For On3 Sports
I’m in Oklahoma native and have been following Cowboy wrestling for about 25 years. I went to summer camps with John Smith and his staff in the early 2000s. This is such a huge cultural change. It’s hard for me not to feel sad about it. I think Oklahoma State wrestling fans imagined that the John Smith, Perry family, Eric Guerrero, Coleman Scott contingency would last at Oklahoma State forever. I do think OSU will have more success recruiting with David Taylor. But it is sad to see the end of an era. I would be very curious to hear John Smith’s thoughts about this move. I don’t think he imagined leaving the program and handing it over to a staff of Penn State and NLWC coaches.
I'm a former OSU wrestler and I'm ecstatic about this change. All the best dynasties came from change. Gable, Iowa State to Iowa. Cael, Iowa State to Penn. This was needed as the OSU staff was too insulated and it showed the last few seasons. Eric got ran out, Espo left and for the love of God never put Perry in charge. Coleman is just a younger John and him abandoning UNC seems like Karma at this point.
@@Abettergrappler That makes sense. The more I think on it today, the more excited I get. I needed a minute to get over the shock. I do think DT gives them a shot at stacking their team quickly through the portal. Alirez to OSU would be awesome to see. Should be a fun season!
Coleman Scott has to be beyond pissed off. Him and John must have talked about this was going to be John’s last season and him taking over. Why the heck else would he give up the Head Coach position at North Carolina!
OSU just won the lottery! Hear comes the OSU train. Love David and even though I'm a Iowa guy, I will now find it hard to root against OSU, until Spencer takes the helm at Iowa.
Wow, feel for Coleman, but DT’s recruiting potential is unparalleled right now. He is inheriting a very strong team. Glad I’m a long time (John Smith is the greatest American wrestler) Cowboy fan, not a bandwagon jumper!
This is absolutely no knock on the great John Smith, but DT is going to bring this program back to excellence. It’s going to be interesting to see how he takes Cael’s approach and uses at OKie State. He’s got major roots down in State College with M2 and his farm but I’m sure he has great people that will help him run that. And think about it, he’s already got one of the best funnels in college wrestling right there in Penn State and he’s going to fill that entire roster up with hammers that’ll make them the second best team in NCAA within 2-3 years max. Book it. Like others have mentioned, this is going to be an easy team to pull for now and I might be their newest biggest fan. 🙏🏼.
Why speculate what’s going to happen or how he will do but it’s probably a good. Thing for taylor not sitting around depressed that his competitive days are over I believe a wise choice and the mma is crap one bad punch and you’re on the sidelines he is a smart dude wise choice should be challenging and exciting
I didn't think he wanted to coach yet. What a huge move. How much do you think he'll make? He knows the Penn state system and has his own intuition and experience. I agree. OSU is going to change a lot for the better. That'll be a fun team
I think it’s cool. Nobody thinks twice about how Cael went from Iowa state to Penn state. No disrespect to Coleman Scott but DT has a better resume and was arguably the best candidate for the job. Would be so cool if Dake went there. Gilman should be a no at OK state, after all his controversies at meets against them in college 😂
I honestly have to question what you actually know and how much preparation you actually give yourself before filming. Listening to two of your videos, you repeatedly tell me your viewers, "you don't know". Try knowing...
DC wouldn’t be able to take that job. He’s making his money through commentary and coaching his club guys. He wouldn’t have the time to coach and recruit for a college program.
Do you believe Cormier pushes OK St to PSU level? I don't think Coleman or Cormier do that. OK St Just changed the college wrestling landscape with Taylor
