“The rise of populism has been quite scary. It does feels sometimes like we didn’t learn the important lessons from relatively recent history…I feel like there’s a lack of kindness in the world.”
Award-winning actor David Tennant talks to Mariella Frostrup on #TimesRadio about “shabby” politics, his admiration of Marina Litvinenko, why the arts need to be allowed to fail, and how his marriage revolves around Doctor Who.

Bless him. From how her dad tells the story, David kept taking her on dates and she was genuinely clueless that he fancied her. She thought he was just trying to get her like Shakespeare🤣

David is one of the entertainers that not only entertain you and help you through his character roles, but also in real life too. He is such a great actor and most importantly person. Love seeing his work and love seeing interviews of him or just videos of him being him. Some actors are like that, but David is one of few who can spark your world instantly

I'm in the USA, Deep South, and you're so right. There is a lack of kindness and courtesy here. The bitterness of politics seems to have filtered down to every facet of life here. The radio stations are crammed full with rude, judgmental, bitter political talk shows and quasi-Christian talk shows spouting off political invectives against "them". Very little courtesy these days, thinly veiled racism too, at least that is what it's like here.

The type of people in power are usually not the kind type of people because of some reason, meanwhile opinions differ a lot on how kind people should be. The lack of kindness is going to stay for yet a long time. There needs to be consensus first.

I am going to have to add something to his last remarks. Being an open and decent person, how exactly would "open" and how exactly would "decent' be defined? I think different people will come up with different definitions and as I said, there needs to be a consensus first.

Oh God, how beautiful he is! Everything about David is great: his voice and charming appearance, and his openness and kindness. Scotland gave the world a GREAT ACTOR and Man. But how many wonderful roles he could still play! For example, the best Russian directors in psychological and romantic films. Alas! How fleeting life is. But David Tennant is still beautiful, with great talent and experience. His Casanova, Crowley, Richard and Hamlet and even 10 Doctor will be included in the classics of world cinema + thousands of fan videos with him (and if the latter had Russian voice acting, there would be millions of views).😂❤

There were a few scarved Doctors actually. Tom's was just the most iconic. Hartnell wore a scarf in the role, as did Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy. Also, Paul McGann wore an ascot, which as we all know, is the scarf of neckties.

What a contrast: a wonderful interview but terrible technical execution in the form of abysmal sound quality. It baffles me why Times Radio doesn't fix such a basic and obvious problem that everybody in the audience is able to notice, many have given negative feedback about and would be easy and cheap to fix. It's hard to imagine that it's because of lack of resources, firstly because as I said it would be cheap and Times Radio belongs to the Murdoch media empire which has huge resources, and secondly, because most regular people who have a RU-vid channel and produce spoken content are able to produce more clear and better sounding audio. The problem has existed at least during the close to a year that I have been following this channel. I... just... don't.... understand.
@junbh2
@junbh2 Год назад
Where exactly is the problem? I'm almost halfway through and haven't noticed anything yet. Does it get bad later or something? Because so far this is completely fine? Maybe if it were music or something I'd be pickier but honestly haven't noticed anything.

@@junbh2 I'm genuinely shocked that anyone could listen to this and not notice her seriously bad sound quality. To me it sounds painfully distorted. Maybe it sounds worse on headphones, or perhaps some of us have more sensitive hearing, because for me this is grating/painful to listen to. I can't even continue, it actually hurts my ears. Weird. Edit: Just out of genuine curious interest - and for research purposes - what device did you use to listen to this? I'm using my laptop with decent speakers and headphones. Are you using a phone or something else? I wonder if some devises/speakers just don't pick up the bad quality?

@@hightidemidafternoon That's an interesting perspective. I like the cosy sound of old transistor radios, but to me this video sounds nothing like that. This is more of a digitized distortion, the likes of which only comes with regressive modern technology.

I don't believe our degrading societies are the result of politics at all. I blame the internet. Before the internet, people were socialized to know how to behave in public. With the internet, rude people, often of lesser knowledge have learned they can not only speak and be heard, a hundred people as lacking in knowledge as they are will join in to support their anti social behavior. Now all of these people believe they are entitled to be just as rude and abusive in public.

@cliftonmcnalley8469
@cliftonmcnalley8469 Год назад
@@mrboost4186 Politics are just a side show. Our social morals have been redefined by the internet - social media in particular. Politics simply seem like the problem because people that are not smart or educated aren't capable of making relevant comments on most topics. They know if they bring Politics into the discussion they will get a rise. They aren't capable of understanding they are simply publicly announcing their own ignorance. They've done this so much they continue the practice IRL.
