Hi Patrick! Fantastic question! I think you're seeing the red as peaking. That is the zone that you want your audio -5 db to 0 db. BUT once the signal goes above that and the "clipping LEDs" above the red flash/turn on then you are introducing distortion into your audio. I set my limiters to -0.5. Which is 1/2 a decibel below peaking (peaking being anything above 0db) With the meters within Resolve you will want your audio going into that red section from - 5 db to 0 db. Now there is a BIG BUT in this. Depending on your deliverable. Broadcast has a deliverable of between -23 and -25 LKFS for the entire length of the program. Netflix = between 4 and 18 LU. I'm mixing to 0 db levels. So I didn't need to go into all the specifics of deliverables. Which is different everywhere. This tutorial shows you how to accomplish good EQ and compression with your audio. The workflow works for any kind of audio. bad, good or mediocre. Focus on sweeping your EQ to find good and bad parts of your audio.

You mean putting lipstick on a pig? There is no fix in post for low quality recordings. You might be able to make it sound slightly better, but there's no substitute for good audio recording.
