My unit didn't come with a USB cable, upon consulting with other people that got the editor, theirs did come with one. Looks like mine was left out of the packaging. Though my packaging did have the shrink wrap intact.
Hey man: this video would be much better if you used split screen when using the Keyboard, that way the interaction between software and hardware is much clearer. I would also lose the BG music in a video of this kind, it's very distracting. You have a nice voice, and sounds like a good mic too. Silence, keystrokes and mouse clicks would be your perfect background. Cheers!
I am just a hobbyist video editor and I switched from FCP to Resolve quite recently. So far I have been using just the edit page and I haven't found a good use for the cut page over the edit page. However when l heard about this keyboard and the offer BM has had recently to get this with the Resolve Studio, I took the offer pretty much right away, because I think this will help me to utilize the cut page properly and speed up my initial raw cut workflow quite much.
So the keyboard does have some functionality on the edit page! I like the cut page because of the source tape. Though, I know some resolve users are “cut page editors” and others “edit page editors” but I think it’ll benefit both, just cut page editors more so.
Nice video dude! I have been using Davinci Resolve 16 for quite some time now. I ordered a davinci resolve 17 activation key that comes with the speed editor... So hopefully I will be able to test it out soon.
Me: This is the kind of nerdy gadget that I would never buy in my entire life. BMD: If you buy one you get Studio for free. Me: *mouse click* - Shipped.
Great review! I haven't notice if it has a straight up delete button? kind of for marking an in and an out in a clip then quickly deleting that selected area. Is that something that is possilble with the speed editor?
There’s a ripple delete button, which will delete a section and move everything in the timeline up. If you’re looking to get rid of a section, then I’d just split the clip at your in and out point and ripple delete the unwanted section. Hope that helps!
@@ramprasath1552 excellent. Very good tactile feel, very good integration with Resolve. It's made for the "Cut" tab but really it also mostly works in the "Edit" tab. I highly recommend.
The key also works for the standalone version of Fusion (which is way more powerful and stable than the one in resolve) which means 3 products for the price of one.
I pre ordered it the Monday after the keynote, with a place called AVShop in Markham. I was surprised when they called two weeks post keynote to pick it up 🤯
I’ve never edited anything in my life. I have a Mac. Is this the best, easiest place to start? Please advise. Thank you! Davinci resolve with speed editor?
Probably best to download the free version of DaVinci Resolve and watch Blackmagic Design’s free training on the program. That way you can have a better understanding of the program and if it’s right for you before upgrading to the studio version (which comes with the editor).
Cheers! Glad you liked it. Seemed like some of the retailers here in Canada had them on order well before the announcement in anticipation. Hopefully yours comes soon!
After creating a video on the cut page if I go to the edit page the video is on one single track as I wanted but the audio is on a new track for every clip. So 100 clips means I end up with 100 audio tracks. Do you know how to stop this from happening? Cheers
Good video, i dropped by since i purchased speed editor after one year of trying resolve. Hey just being critical, stop looking at the camera screen, its quite distracting.
Really good tips and advice, Thank You, but, the Elevator Muzak Soundtrack is so distracting from your advice, I had to rewind a couple of times to listen again to what you were saying, Traffic, waves, birdsong and even AC Hum would be better.
What would have been better is if you did a picture in picture when you were clicking the keyboard with a main screen of the editor window so we could see the direct correlation.
As a new Resolve user, And editing in general, Do you recommend I learn editing while using the speed editor, Or is it recommended to learn editing using Keyboard/Mouse/Menus first?
You can definitely learn using the speed editor. Though it’ll definitely force you to edit on the cut page vs the edit page since that’s where most of the functionality is mapped.
@@sharonleibel I prefer the cut page because I work with a lot of Multicam, dialogue and time coded footage. It makes it easy to put together a rough cut.
I did find this though: DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor - How to with Grant Petty ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YACfrocXsok.html (amazing how bad their AV is on their tutorials considering that they power Hollywood)
seeing the visual only of the speed editor and not the editing as well made it really hrd to follow as someone thats newer to both davinci and the editor, otherwise it was a good video, but im having to find another now to get a better picture
2 things 1 how does the speed editor work in other Pages beside the cut page Namely the Edit & Fairlight page. and 2 any chance of comparing it to the Contour ShuttlePRO V.2 - shuttle wheel - USB
Question: when I hit the in and out points on a clip, can I cut the reminder of the clip that I outside of that in and out points ? When I hit the cut key on the speed editor nothing happens . I’m confused by that cut key and the In and out points you mentioned
The cut key is a transition. So any time you hit "split" it'll make a hard cut. If you hit the key adjacent to that dissolve, it'll had a dissolve anytime you split a clip. Use the in and out on the source media/source tape and then "append" or "smart insert" that section into your timeline.
GREAT! Mine came with the USB C cable. though like @Twayne mentioned, perhaps it's not meant to come with it and perhaps some of the OG ones did but the newer shipments didn't ?? IDK, either way, it is an easy cable to get. Being an Android user it's the exact same cable used for my phone.
I think if your edits have tonnes of footage and you have to turn around lots of quick edits, this is super helpful. I find I love it for multicam workflow in the cut page, since I edit a lot of corporate stuff and do events. Though, I think it’ll make any user’s life easier.
@@TwaynePereira ok ...that was the process i know but i got a doubt on seeing your video and grant petty demo video as he directly shows the synced clips . so out of curiosity i asked. Thank you for the review .. Can't wait for my speed editor to get my hands on.
Yup! You can have your traditional keyboard plus this. The DaVinci speed editor keyboard will only work in Resolve, unless you write script for other programs
@@TwaynePereira if you've ever seen the tourbox controller it has software that allows you to sync buttons to multiple editor functions from davinci to pro tools. I feel like that software *may* be able to be used with the Davinci controller somehow.
Please do not be offended this is meant to be contructive. I managed four and a half minutes watching before giving up and writing this. Firstly I apologise if this is in places somewhat blunt but sometimes bluntness is best. I had a quick scroll through the comments and there’s a lot of praise. Which I find odd as being a “never used this in my life” person I felt this video was basically a piece of s***e. I’m sitting watching this and I get a distinct, what the f**k,,, you’re showing the editor, then a bit of video, then the editor, then video, then,,,,,,,, you get the idea. Very little making any connection for me. For me the video had no flow, I could feel no progression through the steps, it appeared to be randomly jumping around. You’re doing a “video” on a “video editor” so why not a simple pic in pic so new folks like me can see exactly what you are looking at while doing what with the editor, so hopefully we can connect your voice over to the events???????? why not a very simple showing how you made this very video useing the speed editor. --- Sorry the following is an edit. --- This all started when I typed a simple search for “How to connect a DaVinci speed editor” into my search engine. First hits were from RU-vid and first video was yours. I clicked on your video and was bored to distraction within four and a half minutes. And I needed to work really hard to last that long. I clicked on the very next video in the youtube recommended list and well lo and behold, a video that appears to be everything yours is not. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Inplt1r4cLM.html The presenter is talking about the very same item and although he appears to be talking faster, to me he is coming across as a lot more relaxed and a lot more engaging. They have a highlight on their mouse cursor to make watching, tracking and “connecting the dots” far less stressful and far easier to follow, along with the pic in pic to be able to see what they are doing as they describe their actions. I also noticed that the colour is vastly different between the two videos, yours feels quite cold, distant and sterile while the other quite warm and welcoming. Understanding your potential audience is very important and I think the complimentary comments were from people that already had a grasp on the speed editor before watching.
Try going to control panels in the DaVinci menus and see if it can connect. I only use this on my pc and connecting the cable seemed to enable the bluetooth. Hopefully you can get yours connected!
This product is beginning to look like VAPORWARE: I know several people with orders placed during the announcement, and NO PRODUCT IS BEING SHIPPED. That was nearly 3 MONTHS AGO... Does anyone know, is Blackmagic SOLVENT, and planning to SHIP THIS PRODUCT???
@AutumnAspens Yeah, that happens when you wait for 2 months for a product with no date given. I found it at Markertek, received it in 2 days, and canceled my order at useless B&H...
Con - Backlit Keys ???? - You Grade in the Dark, you dont Cut in the Dark! Con - No On/Off switch?? - When not in use, it hibernates just like any Wireless Mouse or Keyboard (most of them , also dont have switches).
i tried to claim my FREE speed editor with my activation of Resolve Studio 18, but was told, "NO WAY MAN" and was give some corporate double speak as to way not, even though i had purchased a BM PCC which comes with an activation code for Resolve Studio (and had never been used). don’t you just love it when the corporates do their ripOff thang, but make out, its ur fault. I have to say I LOVE Black Magic products, but can’t stand their bottom line first/user last capitalistic ways.
Actually, You get a free davinci resolve studio as a gift when you buy a speed editor. But you wont get a speed editor when you buy the software seperately. It sounds strange but it is what it is.
Before this video gets too watched... could you remove the musak please? I am a musician and I am here to learn, not to listen to background noise. Honestly, it is as distracting as it is annoying. And there is no possible justifiable reason. Trust me - you will gain more fans if you teach without it. When did you EVER attend a lecture or lesson with musak behind the teacher? Me neither.
@@Herr.Mitternacht The obvious solution is to produce two videos, one with and one without musak. If the intro stated which was which, then the user could select their preference. Disagrreing with someone does not make either party grumpy. It allows for a useful discourse. There are many like yourself who can work with musak. Equally - there are many who can not. The latter are often musicians who are trained to listen closely to aural input. I am surmising that, from your comment, you are not one. The two-video solution would thus satisfy all. As it is - this video is, for me, unwatchable.
