Ranger Matt Atkinson leads a battle walk covering Joe Davis' brigade on July 3, 1863. Ranger Atkinson and the NPS hold the rights to the notes and lecture.
Hi, i am from the U.K. and probably will never be able to afford a vist to these battle sites. Ranger Matt brings it all to life for me, he has a way about him that makes me bend my ears and listen well. He has superb knowledge and the stories of battle written by men in the action just astounds me. I truly feel the anguish of men in battle, their cries i hear in my mind, the smell of powder in the air, the sound of canon and the screams of men amidst the tumult of battle reeking with the smell of naked fear . After watching one of these fantastic episodes it takes time for me to readjust because of the potency of the accounts. Many thanks Matt.
I agree with you. I also like the filmed winter lectures. I can’t find any from 3019 so perhaps they weren’t taped for the public. Sacred Trust does some but not all the time. They used to do museum Monday which was good. For those who can’t get there it was a real treasure trove of information
Kimberly Henshaw Stuffwriter provides an appreciated service for people who can’t come to tour the battlefield. I enjoy all the videos posted. You learn and enjoy it
I’ve just discovered Matt and think he’s great. I especially like that he doesn’t take a side in these discussions ( like all the rangers) all the while being a true son of Mississippi. We all have to understand the past to imagine the future.
It was a nice surprise to find this video tour. I am not sure of the exact date of the tour but it’s been unseasonably hot in Pennsylvania recently.i I honestly thought tours were over for the season.
The story of that young Confederate soldier who was dying and wrote a letter to his mother then dipped it in his blood was certainly a heart rending thing to hear Matt say. It’s something that the descendants donated the letter to University I Mississippi to be preserved.
I saw another Matt video and the same man was on it. Perhaps he’s local to Gettysburg. Many of Atkinson fans attend his tours I think. He seems popular with many people.
Navy term for 3 Lt: Midshipman. Modern days: 3 rd . Lt..cadet from a military university, Rotc , on training deployment with active unit. We had 1 assigned to 5 bn, 52 ADA , 24 ID in Fort Stewart, Georgia, 1984 for 90 days. Rank insignia, Silver circle. Usually a West Pointer.
@@TheDozin1 I went to findagrave.com and tracked my lineage back and found most of them that had fought had regimental info on their gravestone. The park service has regimental info on individuals you can look up. I helps if you can trace your lineage back several generations.
@@marymoriarity2555 i havent listen to all of it but i heard a few parts of it last night but i heard a few things she said. Probally a show off I never made any of his and if flown to Gettysburg 3 times this month . ill be back tommarrow and maybe I'll see one from a ranger..
You're not famous or popular. You're annoying as fuck and we can tell watching this video that Matt and the other people on the tour grew tired of you. Please never go back to Gettysburg
the lady annoys me. she also stated that a pair of walkie talkies would've changed the tied of the battle like she thought of that. lol Yeah that came from a documentary
@@krtrains123 that's nice to hear. If I may offer some unwanted advice, I recommend you begin recording your own videos on the topic of Gettysburg. Maybe do a walk around like Matt does or just explain using a map. It would really be a pleasure to hear you more often. It's not often we come across men with talents such as yours.
Matt is the best😁but the know it all woman needs to shut up. She there to learn history not to make political statements. You can see how uncomfortable that made Matt and several other people.
Unfortunately our Park Rangers cannot choose who goes on their tours. The weirdo with the skull staff and the schizo know-it-all lady sometimes make these tours more anxiety inducing than they should be.
That one woman is so annoying. It’s cool to be smart but she comes off as a know it all. The one who raises her hand and wants to answer every question in the class to prove she’s the smartest 🙄 Everytime Matt speaks or asks a question you hear squeaky voice saying something.
Richard Russom To clarify, much of that knowledge I spouted in a, “squeaky voice,” actually came from battle walks and ranger talks given by Ranger Atkinson himself. So thank you both, sirs, for making me relive my school days.
Kimberly Henshaw I suggest you stop interrupting the tours to show off your knowledge or lack of knowledge. Yore annoying now and years ago. Why dint you your time to be a tour guide but that means study and the ability not to annoy people.
Mary Moriarity Don’t worry about all that. Cause with all the lovely comments I am receiving, I don’t see myself going back to Gettysburg. So thanks, all of you, for that.
