It's interesting to hear the differences between Calypso and Davy's lockets. Calypso's sounds new and delicate, while Davy's sounds more worn and heavily used. He's been playing it almost constantly for decades, and it shows.
Well since Jones constant has his ship submerged underwater and is constantly been sailing through storms and raging seas for 200+ years with his locker in his pocket or on his deranged looking ship it only makes since that his locket would sound a little more worn out.
Forever one of the best scenes in Pirates of the Carribbean but also one of the most confusing love stories. Conclusion: in real life or in movies girls are all the same: confusing. 😩
@@itsyooboii1464 Despite that, Davy Jones had accepted the truth that he had done terrible things that his mistress did not want and he knows its all too late to repent at what he had done.
I bet he played it so many times, he somehow STILL had some humanity in him to the point where he still longed to be with the woman he loved regardless of the fact he was bitter and angry at her about breaking her promise of them being together after he completed his decade's worth of duty from ferrying the souls of drowned men to the afterlife after cutting his heart out.
The reason I believe Calypso never showed up is because she purposefully wanted him trapped, forever sailing the sea. Calypso is the sea and he'd forever be bound with her, forever sailing in her essence. They would, matter of factly " be together always". The human mind, however does not understand the reasoning or actions of God's and Goddesses.
Jack Sparrow He was already bound by his duty. Had she showed up, it wouldn't have ended his mission ; he would have stayed captain of the Dutchman forever anyway.
She didn't want the curse lifted. She wanted him bound forever in her domain "the sea" & to the Dutchman, forever sailing in her realm and that of the undead. That's why she give him the task. If she had met him, the curse would have been lifted and he would have been able to go on land or lead a normal life, as he pleased. No mortal human no matter how in love he or she is with the sea, would want to forever sail in it, hoping for love with some intangible Goddess. She also didn't meet him because she wanted to be inpredictable, Jones liked that.
***** why? You mean when. Calypso and Jack supposedly loved each other. She Gave him the compass and help him out of the locker and with cortez and the shadow lord. She helped him above all others the most. She could see into the future also.
Jack and Tia's relationship was more of a fling then an actually relationship and it ended horribly with Tia trying to kill Jack. Remember when Jack was in the locker and stated, 4 of you tried to kill me in the past 1 of you succeeded. ( Tia was one of those people who tried to kill him in the past. )
It's funny how these movies always imitate life. Calypso, like most woman, got Davy Jones to fall in love with her so that he could be her slave for all eternity. She said herself, "it's in my nature " and it is. Woman have been using men like utilities since the beginning of time and throwing them in the trash when they're done and this is no different
Love how davy tried to act hard by saying "I do not love you!" And got quickly called out by her, and you can see it in his eyes. They did such a good job with his character and the animations. Makes you feel it.
After all Davy Jones did, I still don't see him as a bad person. Love can make a person do the nicest and cruelest things. Losing someone you loved can turn the greatest of men/women down a dark path.
Nice comments RedJoker. My favorite example of this is Darth Vader. I remember from a book that Darth Vader confronted a criminal to the Empire. Her last words were "Everything I did, I did out of love". Darth Vader's response was "I know precisely what you mean." So tragic.
If we’re gonna take it literally with magnets, the people who are the same repel one another because they’re mirrors of each other; there’s no growth. The people are opposites however, attract cause that constant tension forces one to adapt to the other.
This shows how Davy Jones is one of the most misunderstood characters. There are always these so called ''villains'' you just can't hate, but you do feel compassion for them as you go through the story, through their story. The way they used to be.
I love "villians" more then "heros" 9 times out of 10. But thats cause im evil. Jones and Calypso love story is 100 times most interesting then Will and Elizabeth.
Repins Watson "A hero can just be a good guy. But no one is born evil. The villains always have a story behind them". (Cannot remember where that quote is from, but I always liked it :) )
To hell with the Elizabeth and Will love story. This is the real relationship they should've focused on. Davy Jones is such a tragic character. I believe in the end of the series, Calypso will redeem him
Davy Jones at the end says "My heart will always belong to you" I feel like its the most underrated line of the entire movie. Theres so much of a background/history between these two.
We need more people like you in this world. People who insist that they can see what is not there, that all others must question their own perceptiveness. Keep up your *exceptional* work. XD
@@Flash-2099 That’s the irony of Davy Jones. Despite being a “heartless wretch”, he is literally the most emotionally vulnerable out of the entire cast of characters.
Unlike other movies villains Davy Jones has a purpose and knows what he wants. He wanted to be with his lover calypso and killed men for it. And just what he said " my heart will always belong to you".
"When I am free, the brethren court will find out how cruel I can be" ... No matter what you would have done Calypso, you already showed everyone how cruel you were...
Yea...she's a bitch for being as unpredictable, untamable and changeable as the seas she represents, "is", and what/who Davy Jones knowingly feel in love with for ALL of the above reasons mate. - in the first place.
I'm not one for romanticized movie scenes. Especially ones that deal with science fiction about pirates. But I must say, this scene is very powerful. All cards on the table and you see the pain and anguish that love can consume individuals to only torment. The way Davy Jones unfolds in this story: initially as an evil tyrant-then you realize his malice is seeded from a deep natural love. Now that's character development.
ErwinSchrodinger64 I think his theme (song) really reflects that too - it's far more gentle, rippling and singing (at least at first) than you would expect the 'villain' and dreaded carrier of souls would sound like. Later in the theme (the more dramatic and strong bit) it doesn't sound like malice - it sounds like strong emotion, maybe even anguish. It fits him so perfectly.
ErwinSchrodinger64 I agree with you. I'm definitely not a romantic person, but something about pirates of the caribbean just touches your heart you know. Davey Jones and Calypsos story is amazing. As well as Will and Elizabeth's. They both struggle but come togeather in the end. (If your wondering what I mean watch the 3rd movie.)
+RaveOfDarkness2120 What are you talking about? There's a lot of Disney movies that's for kids and adults to enjoy. lol at you all acting like Disney doesn't have dark scenes in their movies to.
Davy Jones is my absolute favourite POTC character second to captain Jack sparrow himself, Jones is a fantastic villain and amazing character, they couldn't have chose a better actor
10 years I devoted to the duty she charged me, 10 years I looked after those who died at sea and finally when we could be together againa...she wasn't there...😢
You shouldn't have got involved with a whore in the first place, Davy! We have a saying in my country that states "The rock can melt but a whore never repent" Meditate it, mah cap'n
At first I couldn't understand what she was saying because the accent was very hard to decipher. But when I did understand everything she was saying, God I teared up
Davy Jones: "Ten years, I devoted to the duty you charged me. Ten years, I looked after those who died at sea, and finally, when we could be together again, you weren't there. Why weren't you there? Tia Dalma: *"Cuttlefish"*
To kinda get an understanding of what happened you have to understand the Myth of Calypso. She was a goddess who had tried to trap Odysseus and make him her eternal husband. She trapped him with her voice...and he was doomed to stay with her...until Zeus ordered her to set him free. When that happened she angrily commented that "The gods hate for goddesses to have affairs with mortals" Thus...in Pirates of the Caribbean...Calypso decides to take Davy Jones for a lover...for all eternity. She probably didn't show up due to the gods not approving but also what she said was true...as a goddess...it is her nature to always be ...just out of reach to mortals... so near yet so far. Clearly she loves him, because she is concerned at how he has "corrupted himself". And though he tries to fight it...he still loves her. Ultimately it all seemed to work out for her, because she speaks of them being together for all eternity which would not have been possible before...if she had actually showed up for that 1 day. To show up for that 1 day...and then let him go due to the gods not approving...as she was forced to do with Odysseus in the myth, probably would have been too much to bear....so she just didn't show at all to trap him with her for eternity. It could have been all those things combined. Also Is it bad that I found Davy Jones hot?! And was totally attracted to him? Theres just something sexy about a character that in love! Calypso was a fool! I would have done him right in that cell tentacles and all! LOL
Davy Jones is a truly tragic and well written character. He's still an asshole and a good villain, but what he became was really not his fault. This was one of the few strong scenes in this third movie. It was well written for the characters and perfectly acted.
The CHEMISTRY. Its so damn original and perfect to the tiniest details. While mainstream romances focus on two good looking couples having a happy relationship with typical romance building *cough*willabeth*cough* this one blew me away. While Willabeth is romantic and wonderfuly paired with music of its own, Calypso and Davy Jones have a different dynamic and breaks us out of the boring mainstream. I absolutely LOVE it. My pirate hats off.
I'm just now realizing they foreshadowed this whole romance at the end of DMC. We got a random shot of the locket when they're at her place and then in AWE we get a shot of the OTHER locker Davy Jones has while he's playing the organ. I'd also watch a movie of their origin story.
I don't know why but when I heard him say her name while touching her face with his HUMAN HAND makes want to cry for some reason?!!!! Anyone had the same dilemma?
Not only was the line "My heart will always belong to you." said in THE perfect, sweetest, most lovingly-honest way, but the little school girl smile on Calypso's face was just adorable! It's like teenage first love, only dramatic and with mythical creatures and gods! 3:37 - 3:46
I don't think Calypso betrayed Davy Jones; I think her "it's in my nature" runs deeper than that. After roaming the oceans for ten years for her love, he went back ashore to find her. But she's the goddess of the sea. Of course she wouldn't wait for him on land...
Ten years, I devoted to the duty you charged me. Ten years, I looked after those who died at sea, and finally, when we could be together again, you weren't there. Why Weren't You There?
Ten years, I devoted to the duty you charged me. Ten years, I looked after those who died at sea, and finally, when we could be together again, you weren't there. Why Weren't You There?"
Tia Dalma/Calypso: My sweet. You've come for me? Davy Jones: You were expecting me. Tia Dalma/Calypso: It has been torture. Trapped in this single form, cut off from the sea. From all that I love. From you. Davy Jones: Ten years I devoted to the duty you charged me. Ten years I looked after those who died at sea, and finally, when we could be together again, You.Weren't.There.(* shuts off music box, furious.*) Why weren't you there? Tia Dalma/Calypso: It is my nature. Would you love me if I was anything but what I am? Davy Jones: I do not love you!
***** True...Most just repeat it just to get likes though, hence my test to see what they were about. The fact they just decided to try to insult me as opposed to explaining it to me makes me think they were doing it just to get likes.
***** I thought the way I went about it may have been assy, but not outright insulting. If I wanted to be insulting, I would've called them a fuckwit like-whore or something. I was actually only being half-serious until they decided to say what they said. Again though, I've been insulted out right on here. My response was shitty because they were shitty, but I at least explained why I put down what I put down as opposed to just saying "Fuck you and the horse you rode in on" and left it at that in the comment equivalent to a rage-quit. That's why I posted what I did in my response to you.
Am I the only one who wishes that their love story was more explored? Or even had its own spin off movie? (I mostly want more moments of these two together...)
Maybe it is not ten years for me. I loved my girlfriend so much, we had to separate for period of time due to several reasons, but the week before I could finally see her again, she wanted to break up with me. I can't imagine how David Jones felt when his GF wasn't there after 10 years of waiting.
I love how Davy Jones starts his locket the moment Tia stops hers, and he lets his music play while he speaks until shutting it when he gets serious. That whole moment is amazingly creepy and tragic.
You can see when davy Jones said my heart will always belong to you it looks like calypso is remembering the same thing he said before he left and it seems she was about to cry
I'm pretty sure Francium and water is a better love story than. Twilight. At the very least Francium and water has better chemistry than Bella and Edward.
True. Davy Jones and Calypso should've been the main relationship of this franchise. Every relationship in POTC is better than the forced of Wiil and Elizabeth's lol
I love this scene. So emotional, and sad.. When Davy Jones turns into a human again you can see his sadness and all his love to Calypso... And in the end "My heart will always belong to you" ...
+Zyzor Joke's on them; it'd turn human as soon as it was lopped off. You're assuming his limbs _could_ be hacked off, considering the only way to harm him in this incarnation is to go after his heart.
i was in long distance relationship with a girl who i loved with all my heart, and i only got to see my love when she comes to visit for the holidays. although its not once every 10 years i can still relate to davy :( after almost 2 years of a beautiful relationship she eventually broke my heart. now i cry when i watch this scene. sorry for this but i just wanted to let it off my chest.
"It has been torture. Trapped in this single form. Cut off from the sea. From all that i love. From you" Ohhhh Calypso.....what a deserving twist of irony for you.....
When Davy Jones said: "My heart will always belong to you." It seemed Tia Dalma/Calypso became a bit happier. (Please get back together for all eternities!)
Calyspo: "And what of your fate, Davy Jones?" Jones: "My heart will always belong to you." Oh my god, I cried when I watched this scene. You have to give Bill Nighty some credit, to be able to play a character such as Davy Jones with such emotion it's enough to make you cry when you hear him say his best line.
DarthWill3 except Nora Fries was loyal and loved Victor, and Davy Jones is more like how freeze is when Nora is gone forever....or he's just a head in a jar.But yes...tragic.
can someone please make the exact sound of this locket fucking every other one I looked at has that stupid other note you'll know what I mean please please please
Calypso had no reason not to meet Jones after the ten first years unless she played him for her own sadistic reasons. She scammed him by making him sacrifice 10 years of his life in hardwork and loneliness for nothing. Thats overly cruel even for though love and Jones still loves her. Poor guy lmao.
If you understood the backstory of Calypso then you would know that wasn't true. By meeting with him she ultimately wouldn't have been able to be with him forever. If she really was playing him then she could've absolutely destroyed him for his betrayal later in the movie when she was released but she didn't. Instead she stayed nuterul giving both sides a chance.
10 Years.... 10 years I waited, everyday dreaming of her... But when I went to see her, she wasn't there! 10 Years before the mast... Yet not the feeling of her warm hand on my face, nothing but the chilling spray of the sea... Damn her... 10 Years...
I did this rant on another video too but seriously Davy Jones is an amazing character. RANT TIME What makes a good villain is their backstory, the part that no one knows about but explains why the character does what he/she does or turned "evil". Davy Jones is a villain with depth, character and an amazingly emotional and heartbreaking backstory that Bill Nighy depicted spectacularly. "Love is a viscous motivator." (Sherlock quote) Taking this into consideration he turned cruel because the woman he loved and gave everything(his freedom) to serve betrayed him on a whim. Also, can someone explain to me why Calypso didn't fucking show up, like I know you're a goddess and all that but you supposedly loved him so dont go and break his heart. The best thing about Davy Jones' character is the fact that despite everything that she cost him, his heartbreak being the reason he turned into a "monster" and carved his heart out, he still loved her. His heart still beat for her despite acting on vengeance and trapping her. Literally. His last words were 'Calypso'. I really absolutely love Davy Jones' character and would like to see him redeemed and returned in the 6th movie if there is going to be one. Thank you for your time.
I like how the music boxes sound out of tune, Davy Jones' being rougher sounding and Calypso's being at a higher pitch. The music boxes must play together to make it "in-tune". Love that they did that
10 years I devoted to the duty you charged me.. 10 years I looked after those who died at sea.. And finally.. When we could be together again.. You.. Weren't.. THERE ??? Why weren't you there ?! .. It's my nature !! Would you love me, if I was anything but what I am I do NOT love you.. Many things you were Davy Jones.. But never cruel..! You have corrupted your purpose.. And so your self.. And you can not hide away, whats always been mine!! .. Ahh, ha,,,ahhhhh ... .. Ca.......lips......sooooo
i actually like that their relationship isn't embellished and there are so many questions it leaves you with...makes it more memorable, more intriguing
