My one 15 yr old twin son loves Rory Gallagher, and had the privilege of doing a sound check on Davy Knowles guitar with the other 2 band members that played with Rory, when they were all here in Portland, Oregon Dec 12th 2018. It was one of the best concerts he had been to. Thank you Davy, Gerry and Ted. You help my son make sure that Rory Gallagher lives on and on!
I probably saw you there on Dec. 12, Aladdin Theater...You have a great kid if he's into Rory's music. Too bad most kids today don't understand REAL music. I saw Rory, Ted, and Gerry back in the good days every time they came to the states. Gerry is (and the late Ted Mc) were the nicest gentlemen a person could ever meet. Davy is a great and talented gentleman as well...After the show, all had gone from the Aladdin and I sat with the 5 of them (Peter Chrisp and Big Tony, Gerry's Mgr. also) and we talked and exchanged gifts for better than an hour, a smashing time for all....took me mentally back to the '70's when grabbing Rory's sweaty hands front row was a great feeling, People and music were REAL back then. Davy makes a grand addition to Gerry's lineup. Long live the 'new' Band Of Friends (RIP Mighty mighty mighty Ted McKenna, He gave me a stone from the shore of Loch Lochy, to be prized forever, I'm 8th generation Manx Irish). Davy certainly has a real part of Rory in him, I believe he honestly channels Rory at times. Love to all. -Smithy
I saw them on The Band of Friends Tour at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park a few years back. They were awesome. Davy is a phenominal player! Gerry is the most powerful bass player I've ever heard! His notes hit you in the chest and will knock you off your feet! Rory is smiling down..
O lord, killer killing me song with such passion; awesome. What an honor to play with Gerry & Ted but you're holding your own. Get Band of Friends to the USA.
Wow ...besides the great music, the look of pure joy on the faces of Ted and Gerry from 8:08 on, made me have a big ol stupid smile on my face. They must have felt like they had gone back in time. I sure did!!
So great to hear Rory Gallagher's music being celebrated by such accomplished players. Well done! I would hazzard that Dave Knowles has also listened to some Roy Buchanan.
Davy, at 66 having a prior career designing/building the highest resolution audio/studio monitors available to man, building speaker cabs for the some of the best, most often I possess knowledge of tone...just shy of the players. I give you my extremely unimportant yet valuable vote as being a very, very, very skilled guitar slinger who has true mastery of his instrument. That a very rare thing, yes? You, Rory, Eric, Gary Moore, (may that amazing player rest in peace)...whatever you guys in the British Isles eat for breakfast, its working. Btw, ...when everyone was listening to Hendrix, I was listening to Rory, lmao.
I ve seen twice Band of friends in Greece. Great band in the name of Rory. Marcel Scherpenzeel the name of the guitar player. The tall Dutch is fitting better here.
