If you are using Dawn Professional or Dawn Platinum there is no need to add alcohol as it already contains it. Just add water. I remember when this first came out I thought it was a gimmick. Now I use it on so many things. It will work for the sticky residue on the bottle as well, just let it sit for a few minutes and do its magic. No need for another product. Love this stuff.
I do too! its a miracle worker! My teenager got red dye on one sleeve and grease from the garage door track on the other sleeve of his new white hoodie! The Dawn Powerwash got them both out on the first try! 😀
I’m so glad I found this video. I’ve been refilling it with dawn, dish soap and water, but I didn’t realize you could get the foam with isopropyl alcohol. This is going to save me a lot of money because we use a lot of this power wash stuff.
Thanks for this recipe. I've used it for about 2 months and it works great. One word about the Isopropyl Alcohol. Don't use the 91% version, like I did. Every time I use this, the fumes from the alcohol makes me cough. Next time I mix it up, I'll switch to the 70% version or dilute the 91% a bit so I don't choke with use. 😉
I did the same twice and I ended up dumping it all over the dirty dishes instead. I couldn't figure out why the alcohol smell was so strong. I thought I had mixed the wrong amounts. But now I know to only use 71%.
I just bought Dawn power wash for the first time. So, it’s mostly water! Unbelievable given the cost. I like the sprayer so I’ll make my own when it is used up.
When I first heard about Dawn power wash, I thought it was only for people who didn’t wash their dishes after dinner. I thought it was only for people who let them sit in the sink overnight, so I never tried it until recently. I had no idea that this stuff is so amazing! I actually went out and bought it after watching your video about making your own. THANK YOU!
use it on grease and other stains on clothes too. I used it on a colored dress to get grease out and it worked. If it does not work the first time, wash it again.
THANK YOU! I was on my last few sprays and really wanted to buy the refill but I’m low on funds right now and it just seemed like a splurge item that wasn’t a necessity even though I love it. I was able to refill my bottle using your recipe with everything I already have at home. Now I can continue to “splurge” without even spending extra money. Yay!
Lol…I use Dawn all the time…buy a refill container and pour some in the regular detergent bottle, top off with water. At a small office cleaning job last weekend they threw the empty power wash bottle in the recycle. I picked it out and brought it home, wondering if I could figure out some way to use it! And you popped up on RU-vid!! Thanks for sharing!! 😅
Thank you! I have this gallon of Dawn dish soap my husband bought me, but then he heard about Powerwash and went right out to get that! That gallon of Dawn concentrate had yet to be opened after months on the shelf, and I have gone through one refill pack of Powerwash Dawn refills! I found this video at the best time before I totally ran out of Powerwash! I love that stuff! Thanks again for researching and finding the best recipe for refills! God bless, and I hope y'all have the happiest fall memories with your families!
I just made it with 99% Iso Alcohol and the recipe is spot on. 16oz total ------------------ 11oz Water (325ml) 2oz 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (4 TBSP) 3oz Dawn Platinum (6 TBSP) Brilliant!
Good! We heard from some people that the higher percentage alcohol made the fumes strong. I'm glad it worked for you. I've only used the 71% but I love this recipe.
I just watched another version of this on Wandering Weekends channel. His version used 13 oz water, 1 oz 70% alcohol and 2 oz Dawn. He didn't do a side-by-side comparison with the name brand and he refilled a larger bottle. I've always been turned off by the price but the experiment is worth a try. Thanks for doing this!
I love Dawn Powerwash . I use it mostly for cleaning the toilet bowl & the tub & shower . The spray nozzle is great for getting the product up under the rim of the bowl . I spray the shower wall & tub with it & let it set for a few minutes . Then I wipe it off with a wet cloth . It cuts right through the soap scum . Then rinse with water ~ AMAZING ! THANKS FOR THE MONEY SAVING TIP ! Just found your channel .
I love it too! I really like it for when I just have a few dishes to clean. Not enough for a load but I can easily apply to each dish. We went camping this summer and brought it with us. It worked so well for camping dishes.
I have been waiting for what feels like forever for my bottle to empty enough to try this recipe lol. It finally happened yesterday and I’m so glad that the RU-vid algorithm showed me something useful! Wow what a savings this will be. I use dawn powerwash for everything from bathroom cleaning to stainless steel appliances, it’s a miracle cleanser! I sent this video to all my friends & family too 🤓
I have found that using denatured alcohol (what Dawn uses) does give the same type of foam when sprayed. I think it cleans a little better using the denatured alcohol. The major difference is the cost of denatured alcohol, $$7.00 to $9.00 a quart.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the foam before. I will pay closer attention when i go back to store. I love the power wash but hate the price. So this helps so much… thank you 😊
Try Target for sure. The foaming Dawn has been around for years. The packaging is different from the bottle in the video. The video is a repurposed Dial foaming soap dispenser❤
I've never bought a foaming Dawn, but I DID buy a foaming Dial handsoap at a dollar store a few years back & every time it runs out I just fill with a mixture of Dawn dishsoap (the green apple scented one is nice) and water and it foams perfectly. It's the foaming- pump that creates the foam
Thanks for the recipe. I was mixing with water alone, no alcohol. Trying this next. Definitely much more economical than using pure dawn. 11 oz water 2 oz alcohol 3 oz dawn
I am a baker's math type. Your formula works out to be : 324g water, 50g alcohol, 90g dawn. Give or take 1g on the weight of the water and the dawn. Much easier and neater. Scale zeroed out on empty container. Add water to 324g, add alcohol to 374 g, add dawn to 464 g ...completed mix weight 464g, just sayen.
PS. I started with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Diluted 2 parts alcohol to 1 part water to get an, about, 66% alcohol solution which I used to mix with the water and dawn.
I have made this many times, love it. I add a few drops of almond extract to mine, no oil clog there and it reminds me of the powerwash with pear essence.
Wonderful! Before watching this video, I was going to fill my Powerwash bottle up with straight Dawn, thinking it was just a foaming sprayer doing the work. Thank goodness I didn't! Also, never knew about the foaming Dawn hand wash bottle. I just use a pump with straight Dawn. Oh my goodness, I'm going to save so much money!!
I wasn't a fan of Dawn's "Power Wash" at first, thought it was just a gimmick, then my wife bought some. Now I love it. We've been Dawn fans, especially the Platinum stuff, for years. Great hack gals! Thanks.
Great job ladies!!! I love a good money saving hack. I ran across this video randomly but clicked because I’ve been coming up with methods to make the Dawn go further. Loved this idea, thank you for taking the time to make this video, much appreciated!
Just so you know, denatured alcohol is actually what is used in the Power Wash if you buy it from the store. There is a difference between isopropyl and denatured, one can always look that up if you want to. I have made this myself and decided to use the 91% isopropyl, however you can get denatured alcohol if you choose to go that route.
Denatured alcohol is pure ethanol (drinking alcohol) that has additives to make it poisonous, bad-tasting, and foul-smelling, to discourage its recreational consumption (for tax purposes). To get nearly pure ethanol (without the poison) at home you can use a high-proof vodka or 190-proof Everclear.
Ya I think denatured is ethanol or but with poison so people won't drink it with paying their taxes and why do people not specifically the IPA strength we have 50%,70%,and 91% the rest is water but it matters
Awesome, but it's not as complicated as you're making it just make some water a little bit of alcohol and a little bit of dawn. Great job, ladies, God bless.
This was great! I haven't bought the powerwash yet, but my ne8ghbor with 5 kids uses it all the time. I will be sending her this link bc I know the cost savings would benefit thwm as much it does me. Thank you!
One of the thing I remember from a month-long visit to Germany a few years ago was how I was able to find some really, really good deals on food at the grocery story. Usually it was stuff that simply had to be sold that day or thrown away, and it was marked down considerably. If you wanted to, you could simply walk to the grocery store every day, buy whatever was on sale, and just make a day's worth of meals out of that. There's just not an equivalent system where I live in the US. Grocers would rather throw food away than to heavily discount it.
Sad really. Sometimes with the smaller grocers you can talk to them and come up with deals but it seems like the larger stores have so many protocols that their hands are tied.
Also: Do not add (or use) essential oils if you have birds in the house. There are very few that are safe, and many that can cause serious respiratory issues or death. (Note that this also applies to most potpourris and candles. Birds have very, very sensitive respiratory systems, and you don't want your bird to demonstrate why canaries were taken into coal mines.)
I've been doing this for quite awhile myself it just came to me and I decided to try it because I had bought a dawn foam and I looked at the ingredients and I decided I could make my own because the only missing ingredient is the alcohol. But I buy my dishwashing soap from the Dollar Tree and I use Ajax Ultra and I do not dilute it with water because it doesn't cut the grease good enough for me. But it works really great and it lasts a long time. I also by my sponges and scouring pads from the Dollar Tree and I cut them in thirds because I only need a small amount of sponge to wash my dishes so I also save money on sponges. And it's easy to throw them out because they can become unsanitary be used in the wrong way
Thank you! BTW, I poured out the last ounce of Powerspray I had to see what it looked like and it was clear with a slight tinge of yellow-not blue at all. The bottle is tinted blue to look like the traditional Dawn so the liquid in the Powerspray bottle doesn’t need to be blue. I wonder if it works as well as the original because obviously this isn’t necessarily what is in the DIY but I will find out as I happen to be out of the first bottle of power wash spray so I will give it a try! We will see! Thanks again!
Thanks for this video I like dawn for everything inside and outside . I was thinking how I could get around the refill price . And here it is ! Thanks !!!!
This is my favorite recipe for the Powerwash. I tried 2 other recipes before trying y'all's and yours is the best ❤. (I'm on my 2nd bottle now!) Thank you!
If you have stubborn stains in clothing or tablecloth... Take Dawn and baking soda... Make a paste. With the back of a spoon, rub the paste into the stain let it set for 30 minutes then wash. Even removes stains that have gone through the dryer. If the paste dries out, use a few drops of water. (2 tablespoons of baking soda and enough Dawn to make a tooth paste thickness)
@@rynfornow3411 The alcohol evaporates more quickly than water so essentially it makes it disperse the soap evenly but not in such a soupy mess that it runs down whatever you are spraying it on. Does that make sense?
Hi lovely ladies... I actually use the dawn power spray liquid in my dawn pump bottle and it works great. so, not I'm going to use your recipe in that now! Thanks for your help 😊
If you use baby oil on a dark rag and wipe a dry, glass acrylic/glass shower door it will wipe off the cloudy white reside on the door. If ur shower door is very cloudy u might have to use another baby oiled rag and rewipe the whole door again. NO scrubbing needed, just wipe and the clearness of the door will be like new again. It only takes a couple of minutes. Use a dark throw away rag so u can see the gunk AND how the baby oil quickly dissolves and cleans the white opaque cloud-white gunk on the door. This will also work on the car's headlights if the plastic/glass is cloudy.
I use my power wash to clean my eye glasses every morning. And also as my hand soap at my kitchen sink. It rinses so much easier than the regular dish soap
Wow it works! Amazing ladies thank you so much . Cleaning up after my family go thru so many dawn products just tried the foaming handwash and the power wash and it works great. Money saver. Just subbed, thanks again and God bless.
Dawn Power Wash is made with denatured alcohol and not isopropyl alcohol. The two alcohols are different and react differently on skin and on materials like plastic, wood, and other household surfaces. Before you recommend changing an ingredient, I think you should know whether or not it’s safe to do so, to avoid a negative chemical reaction or damage to ones person or property.
In summary, isopropyl alcohol is a secondary alcohol that has not been treated with additives (with the exception of water). Denatured alcohol is primary alcohol mixed with additives to make it unpalatable and, in some cases, even more toxic.
If u spritz alcohol into the bath /shower drain it will keep any orange or dark colored mold/slime from developing in and around the drain AND spritz in the corners of the glass door corners where hinges located.
I use a kitchen scale and funnel. Place the empty dawn bottle with a funnel on the scale, and press tare. Then pour bulk dawn in to reach 3oz, and pour alcohol in to reach 5oz (3 dawn + 2). Then fill the bottle with water to top. Put the nozzle back on and let sit for an hour or so. Takes less than a minute and is less fiddly than measuring with a spoon or cups etc. Only cleanup is the funnel.
I've never bought a foaming Dawn, but I DID buy a foaming Dial handsoap at a dollar store a few years back & every time it runs out I just fill it with a mixture of Dawn dishsoap (the green apple scented one is nice) and water and it foams perfectly. It's the foaming-pump that creates the foam
That's not the case with these foaming dish soap or the Mr. Clean foaming all-purpose cleaner one that's like the dawn powerwash. The foam comes from what's in the bottle for those sprayheads. I WISH!! Would be easier than looking for a DIY dupe, then making it to save money. 😅 the handsome you're talking about says specifically "foaming hand pump" which tells you it's the pump for those ones, though. You're right on the dish soap pump , which creates the foam. 😁
