That was awesome. One of my colleagues was looking for this few days back and we were not aware of how to do this. Thanks a ton for this wonderful video. Now we can set the default value to a slicer.

Hello, excellent video. Is it possible to format the coins? If selected EUR is formatted for the euro currency, if selected USD formats for dollar

Thank you so much. Is it possible to do that with row-level security? For example, I want the default slicer selection to be the row level security of the user. The values are from the same table.

Very handy...with one problem. The displayed values are now inconsistent with the slicer selection. In this example you're displaying EUR conversion, but the slicer itself does not indicated that. My as-yet unsolved problem is to SET the SELECTEDVALUE, and not just get it. Then the values displayed will as I desire automatically, because that's what the slicer is showing.

Yes, but in a usability perspective, when the default value is "selected", in the case "EUR" should be shown as checked in the slicer in order to provide feedback to the user of what's the default value, it's possible to do that?

Hi Ruth, First of all thanks for your videos, i entered Power BI world an year back and got to learn many things from your videos. Regarding using default in slicers Is there a way to set a default date range to an in-between date slicer? For example if I want to land on the report, the date slicer should be selected for Last 30 days or so by default, then later I can change the date accordingly. I know we can use relative date slicer for this. But can we achieve this using only in-between slicer as well? Is there a video available on this topic, if no can you please make one? Curbal Thabks for asking. My clients loved it. Simple and Straight to the Point. Conditional formatting was so easy in PBI vs Tableau where you have to create calculated measures and it’s time consuming.

anyway to instead of having it default to "EUR", anyway to make the slicer just choose the first value available? so ex EUR no longer available it would auto pick GBP as that would be the first option before USD. im trying to do force selection in a slicer what you showed in your video seems pretty close.

Hi, Thanks for the video. i have a table, i want to default filter multiple columns (5 columns) and show the result of them in my visual. Then users can use the slicer to select different filters, but then if they reset the page, it will go back to the default 5 filters. Is it possible? If i share the dataset, can you help me? Thanks. I am misunderstanding you, but what I show in the video is how to set EUR as default. You mean to show it visually in the slicer? Because that is not possible. /Ruth

Hi i have a date column in slicer with single selection "ON". My concern is i want to make this slicer selection always with latest date. i.e For today the selection will be 06/02/2020, but tomorrow when i open report in Power BI Service this selection should change to 06/03/2020 automatically. Its critical issue i am facing.

The title is kinda misleading. With that title I would assume to see how can I set a default value for a slicer, visually, and not making a measure which ensures that it will calculate something only with 1 value, so even if there is nothing selected or there are multiple items are selected, it will still work, won't show non-sense results. On a side note, it still bothers me it's not possible to set a slicer's default value dynamically :(. I'm aware of the workarounds ("calculated column for 'current month?' Yes : No" then filter on it), but users often want to **see** the selected value (e.g. current month by it's name!). Exactly what SSRS is capable of with it's "Default value" property for parameters. Not sure why it's not a priority for Microsoft, many of our customers wanted to see this and wasn't really happy that it's not possible :/.

I have data up to NOV 2021 when i am WORKING in 2/Feb/2022. I have created calendar using Min( Fact_Table[Billing-Date]), MAX(Fact_Table[Fisca-lDate]). Now in my slicer i want to show latest Month NOVEMBER dynamically (by NOT selecting manually) & Previous Months. If I get any data like Dec2021 in the back end, in the slicer i want to see Dec Month whenever i refresh the file. We are using USA fiscal policy. USE DAX only

Seems like question mark ;) if outside specific measure it won't work yet, so it is still default value for measure not for slicer/filter

It is not cool at all, default value should be selected as well in slicer when starting report. In every language/tool default value just works this way that you set it to some value and it works - it is selected in slicer, and used in filtering. I am starting power bi journey and seems it is lacks ages of IT history. It should not work this way (or adding columns with default name), it should be very simple to set default value of parameter!!! Even SAP BO works better!
