Do you know if you can use it without a connection, I like using it to do things like build calendar tables, but always have to connect to a power pivot or bi file even though it has nothing to do with building the calendar.

You said right at the beginning, you don't like using Dax Studio and it kind of showed in this tutorial. But, thank you, as always.

It is not that I don’t like it, it just that I use Power BI desktop for the main use cases of DAX studio and for that reason I don’t know all the functionality and I don’t have any tips to give. Hopefully that explains why the tutorial is superficial. /Ruth

Hi, Can I create measures in DAX Studio, I need to create a bunch of measures and want a swift method. I am converting an excel model to power bi. in excel I've been using calculated fields mostly.

I was looking for a tutorial on using the query builder which does not feature in the video. This video does not help a beginner trying to learn DAX. I suspect this might be why there is a load of downvotes.

Hello Ruth, I am using 2 table's with one Report each separately and now I want to show another report with both data in one report but when I use dates it not showing correctly... I even tried to import custom calendar and made a relation between them but it's showing some date in blank position...

I do it using 7 tables and always on the money. Be careful on the syntax between columns and measures.

Thank you for sharing this. If I use DAX Studio to create an excel file linked to my power BI dashboard raw data, can a user that I give the excel file to refresh the excel file if they don't have DAX Studio? Sorry if I missed this.

They need to have dax studio add in excel, otherwise it wont work. /Ruth

Curbal , if you have a lot of data columns, and NOT a designated date table and you have not deactivated the time intelligence from power bi in settings, powerbi creates a system date table and own hierarchie per date column. So if you have, like 10 date columns in your model, powerbi creates 10 system tables with hierarchie. I think this will influence the performance. I can send you a printscreen, if you want it. I show the students, how to deactivate the intern date hierarchy and time intell and the necessity of a single date table with more then one relation. So the data model is more stable. Also in advanced, i teach them the various aggregation levels, like budget on other level then sales, with connecting tables.

@@CurbalEN thanks. And thanks for introducing this topic. I had no idea about this and suddenly I see the advantages of DAX studio - and at the same time I feel trepidation. All this knowledge you have about the precedence rules you just have to learn. Did you say you have produced guidance on these in printable form please?
