Great series so far - thanks. Two things: 1) Target/sniper rifles have heavy barrels to minimize the vibrations that reduce accuracy, not for heat absorption, and 2) Several times it looked like a rifle was pointing at someone. The first rule of gun safety is NEVER point a gun at something you don't want to destroy (even though you believe it isn't loaded).

Dr. Reardon, as someone who grew up in Oneida County, NY where the 97th NYVI was from, thank you for talking about their action on the 1st day. I have their regimental history and their action that day is fascinating. Also, fascinating is Col Wheelock's surrender and how Carrie Sheads hid his sword in her dress when the Confederate officer demanded he surrender it or be shot.

Thank you all for talking about lesser talked about parts of the battle. The first day's fight has been such a study of tactics for me I find it more interesting than day 3. The second day's fights also have a ton of strategy and missed opportunity.. thank you ABT and GNBP for all your research and love of the subject matter! Can't wait for videos form 159! Generally these types of artillery swords, which the Union side also used called the M1840, were referred to as "light artillery sabers" or "horse artillery sabers".

I love watching these videos, ive been to gettysburg 4 years in a row now and always something new to see, learn and try to visualize. One thing is the monuments and markers for the north lines and who fought were. Its the south has nothing ( i know because the south didn't want to mark a defeat ), but I think for visual and understanding history - is there markers or something that can be placed to show were they started and were they moved to , thats my hardest part of visual.

The repeater carbines like the Spencer were the true state of the art carbines because you fired almost as fast as you can cycle the trigger guard, not needing a percussion cap either.

This is an exceptional series on Gettysburg. I am thoroughly enjoying the content and perspectives of the very knowledgeable historians. One thing I must criticize is that: There was no Calvary at Gettysburg. Calvary was where Jesus was crucified. Those civil war soldiers on horseback were Cavalry.

Great series guys and ladies. I am working my way through watching them. I have a question. During last summer, the riots, and people destroying statues etc. Was there any of that craziness going on there? I hope not. On a second note, because of one of the presenters, I'm in the process of finding out who my birth parents are so I can see what my actual history is. My adoptive mother did that on her side of the family. She did it through the Daughters of the American Revolution.

LOL criticizing battle decisions should be left to combat veterans. Monday morning quarterbacking any of these men's decisions does not sit well with me.Human frailty exposed in these conditions only makes me look to myself. Every man that moves forward onto a Civil War battlefield was a better man than I.
