A nice informative video for the newbies! Thanks for making and sharing it. I've done the walk up to Orisson and the rest of the Camino in 2016. I too remember that feeling that "Surely we've gone far enough! It's got to round the next corner?" It seems to be far more than the two hours that the signpost says. Having said that Orisson is definitely worth stopping for. I wouldn't like to have to do the full jaunt to Roncesvalles in one hit. The weather over the top can be a real challenge not only in April but at any time of the year. The second part of the ascent is notorious for high winds.
The singing inside the church as you set off absolutely gave me chills. Enjoy your Camino...every single minute of it! God Bless you along your journey.
I am going to start my Camino on September 11 this year. It looks like the weather is a lot colder than I thought. I probably need to adjust my packing. Thanks for the videos.
Nice scene inside the church in St Jean. I've walked the Francais more than once and each time I did I went to the church in St Jean and prayed for guidance and safety and when I got to Santiago I went inside the cathedral and gave thanks for completing the journey safely.
Gorgeous, just gorgeous. That moon! Isn’t it weird how the world shares the same moon, yet it looks so different from where you could be standing? Wonderful vlog.
Just happened to see your video as I’m planning to do my Camino next year, if all goes well. You are a beautiful girl with a beautiful, uplifting soul. Thank you for your vlog. Stay safe always
Yes! My exact thoughts! I didn't even know Orrison was a spot. Most of the other videos I've seen people spend the whole day going through the Pyrenees
Hello love your videos thank you for sharing your journey. Im hoping to plan a trip there.I’m trying to educate myself. Beautiful singing voice! I love that your so positive!
Another brilliant Vlog Rachelle...and what a beautiful (Morning) voice. Not sure if I am misreading your expression ( and my apologies if I am) but you looked a little sad sat on the decking at Orisson, like you were wondering if you would spend the entire Camino alone. I predict 7 days......... 7 days from now in a similar situation it will feel totally natural to approach a table that already has pilgrims on it and say 'HI Buen Camino, I am Rachelle from LA, how are you guys'........ Looking forward to the next installment :)
Thanks for watching! That climb was hot and exhausting and I was just pooped!!! Glad I stayed at Orisson-met wonderful people there that I keep running into. 😊👣
@@IllGetThere Rachelle, quick question if I may, the bus you took from Pamplona to St Jean, it looks like you left quite early, what time was it please, am looking myself at alsa but earliest departure listed is 11am, is that what you were on ? I wanted to try and do pamplona,st jean get my credential and go straight to Orisson in same day but thats looking unlikely if I can't find an earlier service
Orisson..such a wonderful place.....loved my stay there!!....in june 2018..had same wonderful weather....dinner with my newfound camino family ,,,,,and the moon after dinner...omg brought tears to my eyes..was exactly the same...i took so many pictures but didnt capture what my eyes saw!! thank you x the memories...
Thank you so much! I wouldn’t dream of starting my pilgrimage without first praying for a safe journey and thanksgiving for all my blessings. It was a beautiful day!
I am doing my walk in June/July. So I am really enjoying your videos and am learning a lot. It is exciting watching you document your journey. You are such a great person. Its so easy to watch you.
I hope to begin my Camino in May of 2022. It was exciting that I came across your channel. Very inspiring, since I plan to walk on my own and do not want to rush my experience. I was not able to catch the name of the hotel you stayed at in Saint-Jean-de-Port. I am looking forward to the rest of your journey. Thank you for sharing. Muchos Bendiciones.....
Thank you so much! I stayed at Gite Makila in St. Jean. All of the lodging info should be in the description box of each video. I hope it has survived the pandemic. Be well and I hope you are able to walk your Camino, as planned! Buen Camino!
@@IllGetThere Thank you for your response. I must compliment you on your series. Very well planned out. I love your sense of humility and humor. Your journey is giving me more clarity as to how to prepare and feel safe as a woman making this pilgrimage alone. (Although not really alone). I look forward to completing your series. Muchos Bendiciones....
I booked at Orisson and Roncesvalles to make sure I had a smooth start. After that, I did reserve beds if I knew I would be arriving late into a town or if there were few accommodations. Even without reserving, I was able to find a bed somehow. It will work out in the end. 😊👣 Buen Camino!
I'm so happy to see your post, as I was wondering how you were doing. I'm planning on visiting as many of the churches as I can, next Spring, so I was especially happy to see the inside of the one in St. Jean Pied de Port. Thanks again for taking the time to share your journey with us. What time did they serve dinner in Orisson?
Hope you enjoy your Caminio in the spring.I’m walking it again this April. I did it in 2018 and from that experience I’ve written a novel about the Camino called The Catching of the Camino Wind. It is now available @Amazon.com in either paperback or e-book.
I really couldn’t believe it so not only did we sleep in the same bed but I also had the same position at the table at Orisson, what are the chances? I didn’t have a reservation in Arizona, and was happy and lucky that I was that able to stay in the room below yours ... the room wasn’t that great but I shared it with five other people. I recall that it was much darker in the morning and I was so much darker when we had dinner again it was August 31, 2019 and I arrived in Santiago on October 6.it was quite the adventure and I can’t wait to do it again within the next few years. Cheers
Wow it looks like you got a beautiful day to cross over. Loved the hostel in Orisson. We met a couple there that hiked the entire way with us...all 55 days!
Thanks excellent video ,just back from the camino also , personally i wouldnt see this as day 1 route (old disabled, unfit maybe) most of us used orisson as a break on the way to Roncesvalles 24.5 km away ,we had amazing weather and pushing ourselves (me and my ex both mid 50s) seemed a great way to ramp up our fitness and challange our comfort zones . not that i advocate walking all day ,orrisson to Roncesvalles took us 6 hours and all the stages we would arrive lunch time ,early afternoon to get an alburgue and look around where we were ,churches ect.
Thank you so much for watching! And congrats on your Camino! Glad you enjoyed it and the physical challenge! I walked for many reasons and enjoyed some very short days (9km), some very long days (38km), and some very challenging routes (Ruta Dragonte). To me, there was a magic about the Orisson experience and I am so happy I stayed. That’s the beauty of the Camino-each person can experience it in a way that is fulfilling to them. 😊👣
i guess my comment was just to show to some who may be doing the route that Roncesvalles is possible but a challenge to the average person , your right that each person can experience it in a way that is fulfilling to them alot of people sent their packs on to the next stop ,to me it was a great lesson in decluttering ,you carry the burden you choose to add and question its value ,to me a valuable lesson .
Absolutely! Anything is possible. 😊 And I actually liked the challenge of carrying my pack everyday. Can’t wait to see what my next Camino (and there WILL be a next one!!) will be! 😄👍👣
@@IllGetThere I love your reply. Walk the Camino your own way is what I keep hearing. This absolutely qualifies as a day 1 route because it was so for you (and many, many others). There's enough rushing and gatekeeping in the world; we don't need it on the Camino!
Yes! It was my first time traveling alone in a foreign country. And while I walked many days with different people, I walked the majority of it alone. But you’re never really alone! Tons of fellow pilgrims especially if you’re doing the Francés. It’s extremely safe, but you should still keep your wits about you. Don’t be afraid to tag along with other pilgrims even for part of a day if you feel uncomfortable. Listen to your gut. Happy to answer any other questions you have. It was one of the best things I have ever done and want to do another Camino soon. Have faith and Buen Camino! 👣❤️
I enjoy hiking and found that to be good preparation physically. I also did a lot of research on what to bring, challenges to anticipate, and prayer for spiritual preparation. As for how long? I started really preparing a few months before, though many people take much more time and some, much less (or none-not recommended). Any preparation you can do is helpful but just take the Camino one day at a time.
@@BB-cr3tl Trial and error--and LOTS of research! Check out my videos in my Camino Prep playlist for ideas on resources to help you plan your journey. Good luck and Buen Camino!
B B I felt extremely safe! There are plenty of pilgrims along the way and people looking out for you once you reach your destination. But, as with any travel, take care to always be aware of tour surroundings and trust your gut.
Rachelle, Hi! I suscribed to your channel. I am enjoying your CdeS vids & comments. Very touching. Thank you for your comments. And inner thoughts. You are such a sweet, delicate & beautiful woman. By the way, are you Filipina? Thank you anyways for allowing us to see you go through this with your eyes and deep emotions. God bless you. I just hope to stay in touch. Buen Camino, peregrina! I am hopeing some day I will make it with my daughters. Take care. Orlando
Donna Leano Thanks. I have a separate packing list video (it’s quite lengthy, lol). You can find it in my prep playlist, I believe. I also talk more at length about how I vlog and edit in the Day 18 video. Happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks for watching! 👣
I had the same doubt, but it was the best decision I made. You will meet so many people! There’s no obligation to walk every day with the same people-pilgrims come and go, it’s all up to you. I would not hesitate to set off on my own again because, as they say, you are never really alone. Buen Camino! 👣
IllGetThere Wow that sounds very encouraging 🙏 Thank you so much, I really need to do it, Am thinking of next April 2021. Would love to do that pilgrimage although am from Jerusalem the Holy land where we have groups coming for pilgrimaged 🙏🤗 But again thank you so your sharing, Bless your heart ❤️
I am sorry it looks like you had a great time and I’m gonna have to leave this video in the very beginning because I cannot hear crap I know you’re talking quiet but as soon as you got outside on the street you’re still talking so little I have a whole volume and I cannot hear anything good luck to you
The excitement and eager anticipation of the early days is hard to contain and hostels are not for everyone’s own journey. It was the perfect start for me, though I’ve enjoyed many quiet dinners to myself, as well. 👍
