Young lady , you are a rock star! Do not let someone's negativity get you down. Words to live by" Hike your own hike" for sure. I have enjoyed and appreciate being able to follow your journey. You are an amazing person!
Some people try to build themselves up by tearing others down; the guy you ran into sounds like this negative type of person. You did the right thing by not engaging and moving away from him. Please stay safe.
You handled that situation with the creep perfectly. So glad you and Stretch were together for this weird confrontation. Gives me the cold shivers... Stay safe you two. Yay for a zero!
I had the same "danger" vibe listening to Taylor. It's one thing to be a know-it-all and another to potentially send someone off in a wrong direction, and for what reason we don't know. Good move for Taylor to go with her gut and out of there.
You have over 26k fans who think you (and Stretch) are KILLING IT!! Also, so excited to see you back in your home state and hiking the Whites on your thru! These last couple have been my favorite ones so far as your excitement is contagious. I know you are already in Maine now, so good luck as you finish the journey. Also, tell Stretch he has lots of fans looking for his RU-vid channel now!
Your videos are bringing back such wonderful memories of my hike of The Whites. Lucky me, I did The Whites hut to hut in 2018. I've so enjoyed following your epic thru hike. I've experienced what you two endured today - there are people who seem to go out of their way to be negative. That's.Too.Bad.For.Them. HYOH ❤️
Such a rugged snd beautiful trail! When people offer unsolicited advice, my go to is :Thank you. I repeat that until they finally get the point then do my own thing that I know what I’m supposed to do. Some people just feel better about themselves by telling others what to do in opposition of what they were already doing. But I’ve found the magic words of Thanks and thank you let you agree without being disagreeable. Explanations only add fuel to their fire. Lol. Thanks for posting snd hopefully people will let you enjoy your hike from here in out. You e had an amazing and pretty positive journey so far from what you’ve chosen to show and comment on. 😊
Good morning. A great way to wake up...Folgers and a. TNH video. Ugh on know-it-alls. Hopefully he has followed his own directions. I am enjoying the daily updates. At 70, I now live the trail thru those vlogging their journey. Thank you. Have a good zero at home..see you in the Presidentials!!
Hi Taylor! I am still catching up with y’all but it’s funny to see one comment about you having 26k fans a year ago (this video 100)and the current tally is 42! You are having so much fun being a tour guide for Stretch! Thanks and carry on!
Morning Taylor! Wicked slippery for sure! You did a great job documenting what real rocks look like today! Stretch looks like he’s having fun! Zealand Falls is another favorite of mine. I mean what’s not to like about any of the ridge! Sorry about that awful hiker experience. That sucks. Good idea taking a zero before the PR. As you said before, the weather can turn in an instant up there. Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful
Unfortunately there are too many people that have to offer their “opinions” to others. Social media has created many of these idiots. You are doing your own hike and having a blast. That is all that counts. In the end you are just outdoors and hiking - there are no official rules. Keep up the great positive vibe Taylor. You and Stretch are clearly having a blast. Great shot of the pine marten. It is somewhat rare to see one. My wife and I had one inspect our backpacking site 15 years ago when we backpacked Hancock. Very cool. And the view from Zeacliffe is the best! I have stopped by there many times and fed the gray jays. Great great times!
Nahamsha met two badgers: a human badger who told her how to hike trails she has known all her life. And cute little 4 legged badger (okay not a badger--a marten), but ruins my joke :D
Another very beautiful section of trails. Been on South Twin and Zealand at least three times. I am the same as you, know the Whites like the back of my hand.
Remember, never argue with idiots: They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. I hope that's the last clown like that you have to deal with. I'm excited to see your vlogs from the Presidentials. I did a Presidential traverse back around the time you were born. Enjoy!
You guys are so fast I will probably miss you in Maine because you will be done. I start southbound in 100 mile wilderness 23rd. I am really proud of you. You really are kicking butt. Stretch too. I have watched you since the beginning of the seasons hike. Bravo. Also, happy to listen to the rant. Sounds like you handled him well. Glad he didn’t hang around with you too long.
@@mdbdoc That person genuinely could have thought they were going the wrong way, there's always know alls in the world, what I find odd, is why she just didn't say she was local and knew the area very well. But that's not the point I was making, the poster tried to pull some silly ism in to it, how does she explain Stretch? he's male, was he absent? had he walked on.
@@mdbdoc And men have to deal with female casual sexism every day too, the original comment was an example of casual sexism against men, your post here is another. Just because female sexism takes other forms as well as patronising men, objectifying men doesn't make it any less sexist. And I'll repeat my question, had stretch moved on? or was he also there, because he is male, now if he was telling both a female AND a male they were going in the wrong direction then it's difficult to justify sexism isn't it? The person sounded more like a know all then a sexist to me.
Taylor, you are doing great! If you are in NH from Springer you are a qualified and experienced hiker. You guys are having fun, keeping a positive attitude, and making good time. Enjoy the remainder of your hike. Happy trails.
Remember Bill Byrson's character 'know-it-all' Mary Ellen? There is always one on the trail somewhere. As Ultra would say, TRUST your instincts. Good luck on Mt Washington, tell Stretch to moon the Cog Railway!
So sorry that he got under your skin, some people are so unhappy they can’t help trying to make you unhappy..you did the right thing 😊😊you are a shining star!!!
Seeing the huts and the trail through this area brought back so many memories. I’m glad you had good weather. Taking the day off tomorrow is such a good idea. Doing a presidential traverse in bad weather is no fun. Keep on hiking!
Don't let negative people bring you down. There are to many insecure males and females that feed on bringing others down. You moved on and let it go, which is what you need to do. Your doing great! If Stretch does have a channel, share and I am sure he will gain followers.
that chimney out of galehead to South twin is a killer...geez I love commenting on all those trails I have done many many times...Im a 4k footer member myself....lol...youll definately see more snow around washington and mt Clay on the gulf side
Really great views today Taylor. That pine marten was a real treat! Regarding your frustration with the "know it all", seems some people never have enough business of their own, so they stick their nose into others'. Your decision to escape was indeed warranted. It's never fair to engage in a battle of wits with someone that is unarmed. Enjoy your zero at home. Wise decision to avoid sketchy weather in the presidentials, but you already knew that. Haha! Best wishes and keep smiling!
I have so enjoyed following you and stretch. Some people just suck! I just got back from my section hike of CT. Ran into a lot of thru hikers and section hikers. However some of the thru hikers were not nice and downed us for being section hikers saying things like of ya we just consider you fancy day hikers. Well I give myself a lot of credit, I may be only section hiking but I’m 52 years old, and trying to get in as much as I can. I’m having surgery in September due to my spinal cord and nerves are being crushed by my spine. So Taylor and stretch just ignore those idiots.
What kind of animal was that in this post? It was not in a shot long enough to really see details about the face and body. Just curious. I love mount ceiling I love the Zealand Falls Hut. Led a memorable hike in February 1 year from the parking lot 7 miles away. We spent two nights at the Zealand Falls Hut doing short hikes during the day. And on this particular outing the first morning we woke up in the Hut the temperature outside my sleeping bag was -20 degrees that was inside the hut in the men's bunk room. The high that day was -8 degrees. That's absolutely the coldest weather I have ever hiked in. It was an experience I will always remember fondly
I keep looking for a glimpse of Mt Washington in your vids (Is it not the 2nd highest Mtn in the Appalachians?). I believe "The Presidentials" has a view (Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison). I hiked all NH 4000 footers in the 80's ( I am your Mom's age). Long before guthook , cell phones, GPS. I read a while ago "Old Man in the Mountains" may have tumbled down? LOVE seeing these views of the Whites! Thank you Taylor and Stretch!
@@AnnieBird55 Canada Jay's are very friendly in the Whites. They look for handouts. The Old Man crashed to the ground on May 3, 2003. Sad day for us that live in NH. Where do you live now ? And, yes, Mt. Washington is the second highest peak on the AT. Clingman Dome, Tn. is the highest.
@@AnnieBird55 Ok. Thanks. When did you live in NH ? Did you grow up here or just visit and managed to do all 48 4,000 Footers ? Congrats on that. That's quite an accomplishment. I've lived here all my life and haven't done any (not sure elevation of Tuckerman Ravine - I did climb up there once). I'm planning on seeing how far I can get on the AT even though I'm not a hiker. Doubt that I could ever finish the whole trail. I'd be thrilled to make 500 miles.
What a gorgeous pine martin. I have never seen one before and I have lived in NH for many years. Have a great hike. Wise decision not to hike the presidential in thunder storms. Dianne
Too bad this person couldn't just enjoy a nice conversation with a couple of experienced, knowledgeable, and personable thru-hikers! Oh well, we viewers are enjoying the virtual experience of following along. :)
Taylor, that dude has a boatload of insecurity issues in his life… you did the best possible thing in that situation, which was to basically ignore his nonsense and move on. Charlie Mike
@@thespiritforest Kristy Burns of the Wander Women labeled them "FME" . Fragile Male Ego. They met a guy like that about a month ago when they got on the PCT. Offered up all kinds of advice and told them they were doing it wrong. LOL ! They are trying to complete the Triple Crown this year. Think they and Taylor know what they are doing and don't need advice at this point in their hikes.
@@djg5950 you know, advice, when solicited, is a great thing as long as it comes from actual experience. Anything other than that and it tends to fall into the same category as opinions… they’re like A$$holes. Everyone has one, and sometimes it stinks. For all the ladies on trail putting one foot in front of the other, I say stay the course and lead the way.
Sometimes when you are in an unfamiliar area, even the negative people can have some useful information. When you are certain, however, just ignore those types. It's not worth wasting your energy even thinking about them. I used to feel as you did in my younger days, but as I have grown older, I have learned that it;s best to just move on in a positive direction. On the other hand, if you need to vent to get it out of your system, that's fine so you can enjoy the rest of your day. Peace, Love and Kindness.
You are awesome. To bad about the FME (Fragile Male Ego) you met, there will always be FME’s but you handled yourself beautifully. Hike your hike girl. Loving your videos
I'm glad you had good weather. Thanks for the update. Next time someone spreads false info like that post a pic of him or her here or in Instagram so others know to avoid them. That's one reason why I try to keep to myself unless I'm sharing a campsite.
How funny would it have been if you and Cody instantly rode with the Bad directions and just told him you wanted to head South (as you headed out). Might have spun him around and sent him on a wild goose chase.
Taylor is the only AT hiker I've watched in over 10 years on YT who acts like it's a picnic on any Saturday afternoon. Really not any sort of challenge in the entire series so far! I have never said this, but I almost wish she'd gone for a record or overall goal like finish in 100 days or something so it'd feel like she's making effort, haha. I know it's just LOOKING easy.. but yeah! It looks easy!
That guy was a danger to inexperienced hikers. A lot of hikers are not prepared to get stranded overnight in the Whites. Also, does Stretch have a RU-vid channel? I follow him on Instagram.
I hope that was the first and last jerk you met along the trail. Glad he didn’t follow along. (He probably couldn’t have kept up with you and Stretch!)
OMG! I've met that guy! I keep meeting him everytime I go outdoors. Sometimes he's even female. They have to tell me that I'm wearing the wrong shoes, the wrong backpack, too much or not enough gear, wrong tent, on the wrong trail, heading in the wrong direction. Sometimes they're even threatening to report me to the rangers because I'm talking too loud, too dirty or cooking over a campfire. You know how you're on a long trail and just meet people and decide to hike together? We were on a 300 mile LASH when my original trio met up with a few others and we became a tramily early on the hike after we compared our plans and our hiking ideas aligned with each other. A few days in, we found a stray on that hike who simply annoyed us all with his opinions and he attached himself to us without being invited. He got indignant because we wouldn't listen to him and we wouldn't include him in our tramily plans to stop or go without including him in our plans. MOSTLY because he criticized everyone and their gear for that entire day he just joined us. We wouldn't wait for him or stop where he wanted because he simply didn't realize he was a parasite that was attaching himself to us whether we liked it or not. And for some reason, on that very first day he kept trying to position himself as our "leader". We finally shook him off on the second day by intentionally taking every blue blaze we saw after he SPECIFICALLY told us that he didn't want us wasting HIS time with them. He was so horrible that we were still talking about him for days after as new people came and went from our tramily. Yup, hike your own hike for sure. Taylor, you're having fun and sharing your experiences with us. As far as I'm concerned, you're doing everything right. Keep doing what you're doing and in the way you want to do it.
Enjoying your vids, Taylor, but if you're from Nahamsha, how come you're not Taylah? Don't sweat the trail know-it-all, as someone said 'never argue with idiots...they beat you with experience'. Smile, agree, ignore and maybe say 'Well, I'm young, I'll hopefully learn from my mistakes.' Overall, a wonderful experience watching your journey. Be safe and on to Katahdin! (It was probably originally known as Kartarden!:)
I'd be parking the trekking poles and using both hands...to crawl down...much rather go up than down...this is why "You can't fix Stupid" - Ron White I have never seen a badger on trail...
So by my estimation you did the presidential traverse on the 5th? My niece did it on Sunday the 6th, 22 miles north to south. Weather was clear. Hope yours was too.
Some other women hikers have named these guys FMEs, which stands for Fragile Male Egos. Since they are unable do what you are doing, they look for ways to degrade, minimize and downplay your success. You have every right to be offended by it and I’m glad you had a chance to vent and go on with your hike. You and Stretch are killin’ it.
The Wander Women - Kristy, Annette, and Lynn (currently finishing their Triple Crown on the PCT) ran into that type of guy when they first got on the trail (PCT) about a month ago. Because of needing permits they started in Northern Cal instead of at the Mexican border (Campo). Kristy vented about that, too. She labeled that type of guy a "FME". Fragile Male Ego. I'd say you encountered one of those, too. And, as usual, he was wrong but thought he "knew it all". I've met many people like that. P.S. That type will never admit that they are wrong even when you prove them to be. Try not to let it bother you.
Turn the tables. Pretend like he is so interesting and ask him a million questions. It will put him on the defensive or he might like it and then he will propose. Nevermind forget this and hike your own hike.
omg. that’s why it’s just a good idea to not to talk to strangers. that’s super weird that that guy was saying that stuff to you and then even stopped you. but i’m glad you’re with stretch! and you got to take a 0 at home!
The backcountry can attract some folks with an... overinflated sense of self-importance. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. So was that a fisher cat? I think I had my first gray jay to eat out of my hand on Zeacliff. I was hoping that you would swing by Thoreau Falls, as it's where I proposed to my wife. Super glad that you are holding out for good weather for the Presi-Traverse.
Come on Taylor, even your Rant seem sweet. There are all kinds crazy seem like you guy ran into a new flavor. You complain less than any other thru hiker/blogger It’s ok to vent every one in a while .
Taylor, thanks for the video; earlier you gave a shout out to Stretch's youtube channel, but I can not find it, can you give us a little more info on the channel name; searching for stretch on youtube gives some interesting content about stretch marks, etc... Enjoy the laugh.
