You jostled my memory with this video. It was quite a few years ago now the last time I was in Daly’s pub in Ennistymon having a pint, when this actually occurred. The barkeep was college aged, I’d say, when an American couple walked in, obviously the first time in Ireland and the first stop after getting off the plane in Shannon. “What’ll you have?,” asked the bartender. “I’ll have a vodka collins,” loudly announced the wife with much confidence. “A wha - ? “A vodka collins” “Never heard of it,” responded the young man behind the counter. “Oh - Well then, I’ll just have a Black and Tan.” “What’s that?” There was a rather splificated man at the end of the bar who took it upon himself to explain just how to make it, “It is half lager and half Guinness.” It was then that I began to laugh uncontrollably because the bartender pulled a lager in one glass, and a Guinness separately in another glass. I decided to leave quickly, laughing all the way out. As I was leaving I said aside to the bartender, “I think you should draw a shamrock in that head.” Come to think of it, Craggy Island wasn’t all that far away...
Big thanks for this one. I have taken every one of the steps you travel in this video, even down to the cascades. So good to see again. Much appreciated.👍
I never comment on these things but I just had to...I visited Ennistymon in February 2020, right before all hell broke loose with the pandemic, and it was my absolutely most favorite town. I'm one of "those" Americans of mostly Irish heritage, my grandparents having bred into me a bone-deep longing for Ireland, so your videos are filling me up while I save my pennies for my next trip over. Thank you so much for all that you share!
That cafe in doolin is closed this 20 yrs lol.music from the twilight zone.......lol...Those moments are called Magic moments. Oh I love Clare too what a magnificent county we are so blessed.
Aww, that story about the cafe and Chiara ( Ciara? Kiara? Unsure of spelling) was lovely. I think it IS a sign that you are DEFINITELY on the right track. It's nice to watch this right now actually, as i had a similar day full of lovely people and kindness that I wasn't expecting. So I'm taking THIS as a sign that I am also on the right path :) I do think life starts to "flow" a bit when we're doing what we know we're supposed to be doing. Keep being your inspiring and uplifting self, Derek. And here's to more kindness and synchronicity on your path!
There is no question that everything comes alive when you follow what you want or believe etc. Things happen that lie beyond explanation and they happen so often that any doubt is replaced by a desire to keep following that path - no matter the price or sacrifice or uncertainty involved 💚
There's a well beaten path no matter how new it is to ourselves. Those type of experiences (such as in the cafe) let us know that no matter what path we choose, however new and unknown, is that you can expect a 'truth' when you least expect it. Take care.
Haha hell John, that was a lovely camper and you sounded like you were having the craic already! Cheers for saying hello mate and see you on the road 🙏
Ha! This has made my day :) I'm Australian, and Father Ted isn't as well known here, but I find it hilarious and have them all on disc. Now that song is going through my head...! "My lovely horse....running through the fieeeelds...where are you going with your fetlocks flowing in the wind..."
A lovely relaxed ramble Derek - great story telling and showcasing of our mystical, magical country! What a mysterious and special encounter that you will always be reminded of by way of the RU-vid video memory machine 😉
Hey Miriam, thanks very much! It was a nice surprise to have stayed dry for most of the day which is probably why I was feeling so relaxed 😂 cheers to you !
Clare was a wonderful place. Shannon, Sixmilebridge, Bunratty. There are some friends I just have to see again. Shout out to Declan and Sarah, Tom and Martha, see again you in 2025! By the way, I loved your rap!
