That's bad planning of the Power Tour folks. Recently there was a local event here with 2000+ car, single lane road for the last 2 miles and 3 lines at the entrence for paying for the parking. All was done within 2 hours from opening. I'm one of those who gets angry if there is 100ft between cars. No wonder the lanes gets so long. In that distance there should be around 6 cars. I like to keep it about 6ft to the next car, or less. Love the videos. 100F is hot!! 96F is the heat reacord officially here in Norway, but I have seen 108F where I used to live. My mate and me drove to Germany a few years ago in his Mk3 Capri, with no AC, no openable quarter windows, but with a sunroof. In a little coupe that has black interior and headers, and leather seats, 80F was hot enough. Our skin was stuck to the leather when we tried to raise our backs. Some days we traveled for 10 hours. But it was fun and the scenery was fantastic! Hope I will come over some day and attend Hot Rod Power Tour and one of the Drag weeks. But with ME illness among other things, it's not likely. Cheers from Norway!
Damn ,so your saying I'm old being 53. My body feels like it. Lol I love that little AMX,those small v8 cars are fun. Nice little car. I used to own a 70 Pontiac when I was 16. Definitely a cruiser. Thanks guys for the great videos.
Yes it has been but still having fun mixed in with all this, and getting closer and closer to completing the Long Haul! Got a little extra rest last night... edit for Day 3 is going now and about to head towards Pensacola!
Made the trip between Memphis and Nashville more times than I can count. Long 200+ mile trip. Lot of up and down rolling mountains. Crossing the Tennessee River. Never had a problem with overeating cars. Just a Dodge motor home. But, this has been a tough few days of extreme heat. And I can see high performance. Not having a whole lot of success. Thank you for sharing your trip.
Thanks for watching Terry glad you are enjoying coming along with us. The drive wasn't so bad, just put it on I40 East and keep it between the lines... as long as you are moving with wind across you. But when you STOP moving... whoa it gets bad in a hurry
It may be become even hotter inside with headers. My mate has a Capri and both cabin and engine bay got way hotter with headers fitted. But the sound from the 24v Cosworth is great to listen to 😎
Glad I didn't go no this trip ,heat and fuel prices the way it is ,not to mention the poor planning of the event itself ,I feel for you man good luck and maybe I'll see yall go by when you come through Alabama. Thanks for the content
A guy I knew from work said that his wife discourages him from buying any vintage car in which he gets interested. "Where is that 1970 car gonna take you that a modern car can't?" she says. I said, "Tell her that it will take you RIGHT BACK TO 1970!" He said he liked that answer.
What a cluster f#@k to get in. Not all will be as positive as you Austin and hope It doesn’t discourage participation for future events. The extreme heat really hurt your this year.
Hey I can make you feel better, Premium is $6.33-6.88/gal near me.. and I don't even live in a big city, I live in a little hick town in the middle of the Sacramento Valley. You going onto that property reminds me of the stop and go traffic going through Lincoln, Ca at 3-6pm.. One day of that when it was 115 out taught me an important lesson.. Ford routes the hard fuel line in a VERY stupid place on the old 76 F100's, mine was right up through the middle of the exhaust manifold and the fuel boiled on one of those days and vapor locked the engine until it cooled down. If that's the same Mini that was on 1320 Video.. it's not a LS, it's a full on all aluminum BBC.
Lol that dude is a freaking hoot, and let me say this, what you see on camera is the SECOND TIME I'VE EVER SEEN HIM! He is the embodiment of the weird quirky awesome AMC guy. He definitely helped lift my spirits after all that, and the Brisket helped too!
You have a great amount of patience. I don't and I would have after seeing that line headed to the next stop. I mean it's 3 hours in line or 3 hours down the road but you did make the best of the situation and that goes a long way.
love the van you you stopped helped reminded had a 89 Dodge van i had came with a hillside hemi with a 4 speed with od swapped in a 408 stroked 360 with a A-833 and a 3.75 geared rear end, i could burn off tires faster than i could pay for
I feel your pain man! I’m from Nashville, EVERY TIME the Superspeedway has a big event, it’s a cluster f**k!! Every time!! The NASCAR Cup Series will be here next weekend, and it’s gonna be a freakin’ nightmare! Last year that was the #1 problem by the fans that came! And the Goodguys event will be a nightmare as well, count on it!!
I catch you folks and the great work you do through you and Old Man's Garage as well as SRC. My problem is I live in central Manitoba Canada and have no place close to watch real racing in person. good luck with ate trip guys.
Well thanks for watching and keeping up on what we do Wayne, those OMG/SRC folk are good people and we're very glad to work with them when we can! Always happy to take you along for a ride and experience 😀
Best thing I have ever put in my 76 was a car seat that has fans! I don't get out of my car with my shorts or back soaked anymore. Florida can get really hot and Humid.
Dude. So insane. Like... how in thr WORLD!? Don't even start doing the math of how much $$$ was sitting on 120+ degree pavement for hours and hours. This whole trip has been brutal but that was... something else entirely
sounds like a serious breakdown in organisation considering this is a yearly event in the US and has been running for ever they would know what to do, here's hoping day three will be kinder to you all ou there.
There was definitely a breakdown or 3 with the processes, and a whole WHOLE lot of very pissed off Power Tour folks. Have a bit of information on that I'll actually bring up on the Day 5 video.
Well... you did say something about loosing weight on this trip. Even with the tasty Floorboard Brisket it do look like you are keeping good to that. Impressed both cars are doing so well in those conditions, honestly expected the Pontiac to go full Old Faithful in that line there. Hope they get whatever the kink at the gate was ironed out for next year... or move the venue to a more hospitable one. Glad you two still managed to have a good time, hope tomorrow goes a bit better for ya!
Austin if you get time what gear ratio is in the Pontiac looks like it does great on the highway my big block 72 nova has a turbo 350 with 3.73 gears and turns about 2800 rpm at 65
It certainly SHOULD but this car is kind of a mutt in every way, nothing is stock or original just a bunch of parts thrown together. That B&M TH350 is holding on for dear life!
Question ?, did your brake light go off with E brake ? ( I KNEW that 455 was going to overheat ! surprised it got that far.) It's not going to be much cooler in Florida ! Were cookin down here . HOT !!!!!! Maybe now you understand why I say all dark colors of paint are EVIL and White is RIGHT !
They should do some type of digital check in QR code, GPS / Cell Phone location check in 🤷♂️ figure 2/3 of the folks can handle it and the old timers can use a traditional check in. Realistically this thing isn’t like a marathon where first place gets a trophy. If people want to cheat and say they made all of the check- ins then who does it hurt?
Thank you Jim...Thank you. The prius is not only a lackluster car, but one of the ugliest vehicles ever made. id rather drive an Aztek or a Pinto or a Gremlin or a Pacer than a prius. I used to take my Z28 to shows all the time, and i still would if my father wasnt a complete and utter POS. Its my car, but since i dont have a garage yet i left it with him and in his name so he can pay the insurance on it. Now im kicking myself for that. I bought my close family friends grandsons 89 RS in 2020 and got it running after sitting for years...however it wouldnt hold coolant and we found out the block, yes the block, had busted open on both sides. Not at the freeze plugs or anything either. It still ran good but not for long. it was just a 305. i was planning on taking it on power tour that year but health and then no place to swap the engine got in the way. So my goal for next year is to either have my 80 Z or another camaro ready for HRPT. The heat is the reason i cant do goodguys because i cant be out in the heat that long or ill pass out...no matter how much water and gatorade i drink
C’mon…don’t knock the Aztec, Pinto, Gremlin or Pacer. Haha. I can tell you this…out here in So Cal if you have a Gremlin or a Pinto you’ll get more people asking questions, telling you stories or giving you a thumbs up if they see you.
@@ZEPRATGERNODT haha I'm not knocking them per say...I'm just saying they are ugly cars too...but at least a gremlin or pacer have character. I love AMC cars. The Prius is just a hunk of inefficient junk. It's no better than a civic or something that looks way better.
So, the police finally forced the event people to stop that nonsense and let everyone in? I can't believe no one in the Raceway staff or the even the Hot Rod Power Tour staff said, "Oh look at that. They are backed up for miles and blocking a major road. Let's just let everyone in and worry about the registration once they get in." Wow that was two days out of two that lines of one sort or another ruined the event for a lot of people. After the first day, they should have asked for volunteers to stamp peoples credentials or whatever needed to be done. If people will stop to ice a broken down car, there have to be some that will volunteer. I'd be pretty steamed. Pun intended. The driving seems kind of lonely. Which is made up for being at the event. Then they don't let you the event!
I’ve been to events like the Syracuse Nationals and ain’t no one setting foot on the grounds without paying. Then I’ve gone to Carlisle (Hershey, PA) and they’re much more lax. Obviously I already pre-registered but the nice folks at the gates weren’t Nazis about everyone and every car coming in.
We run a motocross track and we let everyone in when the line is crazy and they either come to us for payments or registration after they're settled in,
Even if you have 10% who don’t pay does it really matter 🤷♂️ I figure if they haven’t paid then they’ll be on their best behavior because any attention will get them booted. Plus some folks are broke or cheap and they’d just sit along the side of the road for free.
somebody needs to get their shit together or next year they will lose alot of people... and maybe they should change the time of year so the weather is cooler???
