The Catechism reveals to us its intended readership, structure, and some practical directions for use. Fr. Mike and the Roman Catechism remind us that-above all-“the works of perfect Christian virtue spring from love and have no other objective than to arrive at love.” Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 11-25.

As a lifelong Catholic, I feel cheated. Never once in all my years of grade school or high school did any religion teacher teach us or go through with us the actual Catechism of the Church. I wonder how differently my spiritual life would have been if I’d have had the opportunity to learn about my faith in that way. I fell away from the faith for almost 10 years and was compelled to come back after a few months of praying the rosary daily when Covid began. (To Jesus through Mary is REAL, everyone!) i have never been closer to Jesus than I am now, but I mourn for the 54 years of my life that I was superficially living my faith. Why isn’t the Catechism taught to kids in Catholic schools? Such a waste. Thank you for the opportunity to learn it now, Fr. Mike. Better late than never, I suppose.

I’m surprised to hear that the catechism isn’t used in Catholic schools because it was in my school and in my time. I attended a Catholic grade school in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, starting 1st grade in the Fall of 1960. I graduated 8th grade in June 1968 and, as I recall, we used 2 different catechisms, the first one is the very well-known Baltimore Catechism No. 2. In later grades we used a more advanced one (can’t recall the name). I then went to a Catholic high school from 1968 to 1972 and we had regular religion classes, although we no longer used a catechism. BTW, someone who commented on Day 1 of this series also mentioned the Baltimore Catechism as it was the universal catechism of the Catholic Church in the United States at that time. Take care.

I believe that the kids like me in the 80s especially had a somewhat watered down Catechism, but we must look at it from today onward and thank/praise God that we live right now in this day and are finally receiving this beautiful gift- the fallen Angel wants us to resent and not focus on gifts- but God is not there in that resentment-He is here with us now celebrating in joy on the path He has us currently. I just looked at the Apple Podcast ratings. If I am seeing it correctly Catechism in a Year is #1 and Bible in a Year is #5! So not only are we hyped about this but people are still starting Bible in Year again for the 3rd year.

I'm returning to the Catholic Church after over five years in a different church. I've been reading "Pope Francis - Encountering Truth" and he repeatedly talks about the need to share the love of Christ with those around us, that we need to "walk in the streets" with people. And to hear this lovely message repeated in the Catechism is so wonderful! This is what the Gospel is all about! Yet my experience with so much in the Catholic Church has not echoed with this love. I'm so glad that you're presenting the Catechism this way, Fr. Mike. Imagine what would be possible if every Catholic experienced the love of Christ in a personal relationship with Jesus and then took that love to those in their own lives! This is what Jesus wants, this is what the Holy Father wants, and this should be what every Catholic wants, too. Thank you for presenting this powerful teaching tool!

I’m so happy to be on this new journey with you all! I’m from England but have lived here in Western Australia for most of my life. Baptized in the Church of England as a baby but became a Catholic 🙏 in 1974 - best thing I ever did! I have received the sacraments, attended church regularly and raised 3 children in the faith, but I’ve never even seen the Catechism of our faith! So this is a marvelous opportunity for more understanding. Thank you Fr Mike, I really enjoyed the BIAY in 2023 and restarting that again too. What a gift!! 🙏🥰

This reminded me of different points in BIAYwhen Fr Mike reminded us that God meets us where we are. That the early Israelites in the desert were at a different place in their faith than the Israelites of the exile, or the peoples at the time of Christ. God doesn't change, but our readiness for his salvation has changed over time.

Father Mike, baptized as a baby and left the Church in search of God!!! Got stuck in the Seventh day Adventist who gave me a sense that oh! Yah we are the 'remnant' the only ones doing it right. Though there were a few things that Helen G White professed that kept me from signing on the dotted line. Then I came across a video of yours about 'El shabait' completely turned me arround. That was a year ago just finished bible in a year and Catechism in a year . Your internet ministry saved me! And I am delighted to count myself as a member of the True Catholic Church. I’m going through this by finding through the Hallow app. I’m not a Catholic but I’m learning or rather in unlearning some things that I grew up thinking about this faith. We all just want that relationship with Jesus Christ and how can we get that. This Catechism is laid out plainly and I appreciate this to get a better understanding of my relationship.

There are several Surprised by Truth books- Foreword by Scott Hahn who was a protestant minister and edited by Patrick Madrid who you can hear Mondays through Fridays on Relevant Radio from 9 till noon EST. That's me too. I was born and raised Baptist, my husband too, and our daughter. I got curious, but I've had some positive experiences with Catholics and the main one being they helped me get my daughter. A nun gave me a prayer of conception when I was told I would never have children by fertility doctors. Well, it worked. I never felt that close to God as I did with her help. So, now, being older, I'm more curious.

How joyful it is to learn along with over 9000 other listeners on day 2 of The Catechism in a Year with Fr. Mike. We are a (growing) group of the faithful, not singular islands but the body of Christ's Church, called to love. Surely it was Devine intercession that prompted Fr Mike and Ascension Press to find way to gather such a large group of believers (in concert) to learn together the BIble in a Year and this catechism. Can we not praise God more greatly as a group, than singularly? Thank you Fr. Mike.

That last part took me by absolute surprise. This has been reiterated time and again in the past, but its significance somehow always gets missed. awesome - we are at different levels of faith and must be patient with one another. One of my goals this year 2023 is to practice the virtue of patience. Thank you Padre bless you. Father Mike, blown away. I love the closing, that this all leads to come out of love. As a “mature” person it took me a lifetime to come to that teaching all on my own. (Holy Spirit and God) leading the way. The Lutheran catechism says nothing about this, and doesn’t focus on the maturing faith that grows deeper over a lifetime. It’s very punitive, and punitive in the way it was taught. The RC faith seems open to that people are fundamentally broken, in need of God’s grace and mercy. Funny, when I told my 95 year old mother I was studying the RC catechism you could see her MS Lutheran shackles come up.

Thank you @FR.MIKE for presenting this series. I’ve started the Bible In A Year (2022) series and now the Catechism In A Year series. For me, these 2 series will give me a deeper appreciation and love of my Catholic faith. I’ve been looking for a local study group that covers these 2 areas, with no success. Now, I have found them.
