Day 24 - Wednesday 25th September - Leon to Villadangos del Páramo- 20km
This route is described in my guidebook as the “most unpleasant” stage on the Camino Frances. That’s a pretty bad rap!
After a fabulous rest day in Leon and fortified by the most amazing (just for me) breakfast I have ever been served, I was ready for anything and the walking went well and the kilometres raced by.
I wore a light knee support today, expertly fitted by a wonderful pharmacist in Leon. She knelt at my feet and measured my knee to ensure that I had a perfect fit. It made a huge difference and the many miles of hard paved surface leaving Leon did not upset my knee at all. That was a blessing.
I’m staying at another truck stop with a reputation for grumpy staff… but the staff were fantastic (lots of pleases, thank yous and smiles go a long way) and the pilgrims in residence were served a generous and tasty dinner.
There’s a wind warning in place and lots of rain predicted for tomorrow so I have my finger crossed that the worst of the weather passes over this area overnight :-)
