Do you guys ever use sheet wax to build up part of a plug when making a mold? For instance, let's say you need to make a mold of an oem /etc plug and you need to plan for the thickness of the new fiberglass part. I've heard that Sheet wax can be used to make up for the future thickness of a fiberglass part. Hard to explain that one lol. But for instance I want to make some fiberglass bedsides for my 88 Chevy truck. But where the oem sheetmetal would slip over the bed and get spot welded in, I would have to build up the surface of the plug so the new thicker glass part can slip over the bed.
Interesting procedure. Have to ask, and please forgive me, if I'm wrong, but unless my eyes were deceiving me, it looked as though the trailing edge of the belt moulding on the door that you glued up ,is not quite in line with thr belt mold on the driverside quarter panel.
Are there any issues with bonding a aluminum or steel backing plate into a fiberglass part (for mounting locations or strength)? Or is that a concern only with carbon fiber?
