The murder trial for the former Franklin County sheriff's deputy who is charged with fatally shooting 23-year-old Casey Goodson Jr. more than three years ago is now underway.
Ex-deputy Jason Meade pleaded not guilty in December 2021 to murder and reckless homicide charges for the shooting death of Goodson and is now back in court after several delays.

Goodson's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Meade, but that is put on hold until the trial is completed. They are expected to be present in court every day of the trial.
Both the prosecution and the defense delivered opening statements on Wednesday.
Witness testimony got underway in court Thursday morning. The prosecution called Goodson's sister, Janae Jones, and his grandmother, Sharon Payne, to the stand.

Did the defense attorney basically confirm in multiple scenarios/positions that Casey's back was to Jason and therefore not an imminent threat?

He approached him on his blind side behind the door. The wounds go right to left. He was inside the screen door. Shot in the back theres no way possible he pointed a gun at the officer.

How would you possibly know that? The direction of shot by no means makes a bit of difference. He either was waving a gun around or not and the bullets trajectory has nothing at all to do with that.

Between the locked car door, sandwiches in hand, open house door and falling inside, open style holster and officers previous statements, i would say there is plenty of evidence to go to trial.

Ya it shouldn’t have went to trial, the young punk had his firearm pointed back behind him and out toward the oncoming officer. He was being stupid with that pistol out on the road and after he realized he had pointed it at a cop who was pursuing him he panicked and tried running to get into the house, that’s why he parked the car weird trying to get as close to the door as he could instead of parking normally. Play stupid games get stupid prizes

So it’s his word and the evidence. Evidence suggests he shot the victim in the back. His words say why. Given the jury can’t have background information about either the victim or the defendant they have hard decisions to make. I can objectively see this going either way.

Actually the police have to prove justification as a defense. They have to prove Casey was a threat. Also Meade is not a reasonable officer so the guidelines should not apply to him. But they will prove that.

"Actually the police have to prove justification as a defense." -You don't need proof for anybody to defend yourself whether you're a police officer or not, or whether you have a bodycam on or not. I'd agree with you though that it helps to have video evidence to save others from doubts or to help prove any foul play either way. Also, I don't have proof that Casey pointed his gun at Officer Meade just as you or the prosecution don't have proof that Casey didn't point his gun at Officer Meade. Fair? This trial is based on the prosecution's murder claim so the burden is on them to back up their murder claim and they don't have enough proof to provide guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, they never did, hence my original comment above. They only have to proove that he acted recklessly, intentionally and knowingly. If they do that then justification is the defense's burden. The prosecution does not have to prove casey didnt point the gun at meade. Casey isnt on trial. Hes dead. They only have to prove what jason meade did.

"They only have to proove that he acted recklessly, intentionally and knowingly." -If the prosecution can't prove that Casey didn't point his gun at Officer Meade then it's possible that Casey did point his gun at Officer Meade, therefore, the prosecution can't prove murder given what we know at this point. Because if Casey did point his gun at Officer Meade, as Officer Meade claims, then shooting in self-defense is not murder. And if the prosecution can't prove murder, it would be next to impossible to legitimately prove Officer Meade acted recklessly if he didn't go further than doing what he needed to do to stop a threat to defend himself as ALL police officers are trained to do.

This judge should have sustained the state objection. When this lady attorney starts talking about what would you do if a person dosent obey commands. Why is judge allowing this cross examination is only over evidence given on direct examination. This wittnes direct examination is over his crime scene job he did. That's all she can cross examination him on. Judge is wrong here

The prosecution says murder yet still to this day haven't proven that Casey didn't point his gun at Officer Meade. Prosecute these prosecutors for making a murder claim without sufficient supporting evidence. Not having clear proof of Casey not pointing his gun provides for a phenomenal amount of reasonable doubt. Did these prosecutors completely lose their LSAT logic skills in favor of ego, baseless assumptions, feeding the bandwagon, and sophism? Really???

He had sandwiches in his left hand. Even defense agree on that. You saw the picture of the keys in the door knob. Not an extraterritorial who put them there! How could you wave a gun when you have sandwiches in one hand and keys in the other????? The pig was driving an unmarked car and plain clothes. Maybe the pig made a false movement on the street and Casey waved his gun at him telling you drive dangerously. So the cop followed Casey and shot him for NOTHING. That cop has a history of police brutality so... Casey's gun was in an unattached holster in his pants. The gun went out of his pants when he fell down and the cop pig made up a story... Sandwiches, keys.................

Wouldn't that leave Casey a free hand? Right? Also, isn't it possible that someone could hold a gun and a plastic bag with the same hand? Even hold keys by the key ring/clip around a finger while holding a gun in the same hand? All possible, very simple to do.

The companies I work for are New York based as in issue my check like Jackie said I wouldn’t get approved for regular checks .
