I see the sunrise over the Windhoek mountains every morning whenever I have to go drop the kids at school. It looks awesome and makes me feel so alive.
When you said you're making one of the first things you usually get out of your own garden, I knew: Spinach/Swiss Chard. You can always depend on it. But I've lost a whole harvest because of birds in the late winter/early spring when it's the only green thing around. I usually let the birds have their share without too much of a fuss.
Lovely to see the way you use the onions, I love to cut them like you did. I like to add to any dish with garlic and ginger too. Out in the sticks reminds me too how we used to do the same. Have you tried to grow New Zealand spinach? You pick all the new growth cook it. I also like to add to a salad. Great that your ducks eat the white ants/termites. Worked out better than having to catch Guinea fowls. Lovely to see how you are setting up an area for visitors.
Have you ever thought about bougainvillea in a permaculture setup.i might be getting a bunch of cuttings soon.but not sure if I should just use them as mulch or if the plant would have other benifits
Hi @@thefoodforestnamibia they are great for bees, can be used as a hedge and look great. They may be really nice around your visitors centre. If anything… it’s always fun to try get something to grow from cutting as not all cuttings survive… so it is an accomplishment when they do.
The breakfast looks lekker. I'm jealous of your prickly pears. Mine are also going into their second year but haven't started yet. There are two more cold fronts on the way, and then it's spring.
@thefoodforestnamibia it looks like it will be this week, Friday, and next week, Thursday. I've also already planted some veggies and am trying to start a food forest. It's my dragon fruit vineyard I'm most worried about. They've taken a hard knock already.
